"The Haunting Of Helena" Review

Hey guys, welcome to my new blog! This is my FIRST review that I have ever done on a movie before. Please, if you would like, give me some constructive criticism on how I can improve my reviews in the future! Thanks for reading!

The Haunting Of Helena was a very chilling movie, but did not give a lot of ambition. This movie takes you into the life of divorcee Sophia who moves into a new house with her young daughter Helena. When her daughter looses her first baby tooth in a horrific car accident, she begins to describe a woman known as the "Tooth Fairy". Beyond this, her mother learns a very ominous backstory about the house they live in.

This movie had very few actors that did their role very well. Some didn't put a backbone into their acting, but i'll get to that here in a few minutes! I'm going to go ahead and say that Harriet MacMasters-Green (Sophia) as the center of all the suspense, and that's why I loved it when she came on the screen. She is honestly the only character I thought was the moral support of the entire film, more less her daughter. Here is where I have problems with the acting of some of these characters. Sabrina Jolie Perez's character (Helena) did a very equal amount of tell don't see in this film, and to me, this really kills the suspense of who is supposedly haunting her.

When I think about it though, if Helena did not mention the Tooth Fairy, we wouldn't have gone through these series of events inside the movie that lead to it's very bland end. Even so, I wish that they should have let us see the antagonist more.

They never really did gave Susanna Cornacchia (Tooth Fairy) any credit whatsoever in this film. The only time you ever get any insight or enounters with the fairy is when she is killing pointless characters off, or in her husband's flashback reflecting her wrong doings.

The only time she even appears to anybody in this movie was when Harriet MacMasters-Green was trapped between a piano, and Susanna Cornacchia was reaching our to Sabrina Jolie Perez for her box of teeth, or when Harriet MacMasters-Green gave the Tooth Fairy her original teeth back (which was a terrible idea) , and she was at the window.

The movie, like I said, didn't have a ton of ambition as I had once hoped. They focused very well on the atmosphere, and the very emotions in every scene. Just not the development of the characters and their role/appearance in the movie.

The good thing about this movie is that it really made me anxious, wondering what would happen next. I believe everybody knows that feeling in every film when I say it gave me a ton of anxiousness. Unfortunately, there were very little jump scares and surprises, but that's also a good thing! I rather have subtle unsettleness than cheap jumpscares any day of the week, so if your looking for a psychological horror film, this is your movie!

The movie, at first, look like one of THOSE movies that you think is going to be cheap and try to feel your horror needs with sex and vulgar profanity. Really, it's not that kind of film at all. You think that Sophia has made things right by the end and it's that plain and simple. In reality, what she has done to prevent this woman from haunting her daughter actually made the situation MUCH worse (As well as the ending). It sets you into a spiral of confusion as you watch it, and was more of a psychological horror than anything. Trust me, you will see a lot of blood, but it won't make it any less of a psychological at it's best.

All in all, the movie in my opinion was pretty good in a way, but the ending could've been so much better. I felt they rushed way too quick, and could've did something with that twist to prevent that from happening. I would suggest this movie, but be prepared to be a little dissapoint.
