Some artists I started listening to recently.
The title explains enough.
The Foreign Exchange
Now, this is a hip-hop duo something of Dutch producer Nicolay and rapper Phonte, who you may know from the another group called Little Brother. In fact, i've been listening to LB for a while before hearing of TFE, so I was excited to see something involved with the group.
TFE's style emphasizes smoooooooove-ness. Nicolay's Use of filters, phasers spacey synths and smooth sampling makes for a recipe of late night driving sessions. I haven't been able to listen to their newer material, only their debut Connected, but I hope their ways haven't changed too much over the years!
Roosevelt
One of my new methods of discovering artists is through browsing Music Choice channels and leaving them on 'till I find something I like. This Germanic producer is perhaps the only artist that I found through their Electronic channel, which came as a surprise (becuase all it plays 93% of the time is clubby bro-house).
I listened to his only release so far, and it's pretty stellar! The four-track EP "Elliot" contains influences of Alan Braxe's Vulture label, more specifically, Vulture's Starsmith. The comparision is pretty accurate when you listen to "Around You" and 'Smith's "Lesson One".
Don't take Roosy here as a mere rip-off, however. He manages to sort of "retro-fy" Smith's style, by adding lush and reverb-rific synths, to really cement that initial disco influence. And hey, we can't have enough of that, huh?
And uh... that's less than "some", I guess... Oh well. Stay tuned for more!
