Mini Review! Pokémon Yellow!
Check out my Red and Blue review here!: http://mlpforums.com/blog/589/entry-12908-pokémon-red-and-blue-review/
So, at the same time that Red and Blue came stateside, something else did: the Pokémon anime. Arguably more iconic and well known than the games, the Pokémon anime was a smash success. Naturally, our old friends at Game Freak wanted to capatalize on this success, and what better way to do that than to make a new version of Red and Blue with elements taken from the show? Actually, there probably were better ways to do that, but let's ignore that for the moment and look at the changes!
• The most obvious is that your starter is now Pikachu, and it'll follow you around on the overworld. It's pretty neat, though it does become rather annoying in the fact that this Pikachu cannot evolve. So, no big orange rat for you; you're stuck with the little Yellow one.
• You can now obtain all three starter Pokémon (Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle) instead of just one, just like Ash does in the anime. This is really cool; not only does it tie in to the anime, but you get three pretty strong Pokémon for free! Rad.
• The Pokémon sprites have been noticeably improved, and now look closer to the way they look in the anime and official art. This is a very welcome change; now some Pokémon aren't nearly as creepy (EXEGGUTOR!) and it helps the game overall.
• The game is a bit tougher; Gym Leaders are noticeably stronger. This isn't a huge change, but I still thought it was worth bringing up.
I give this game an 8.5/10. It's the definitive way to play Generation 1. Thanks for reading! ^__^
