"FIM is a show for little girls."

Twilight_Sparkle_face_book_S2E18.png

Do I need to say this again? FIM is not exclusively "for little girls" like G3, G3.5, or Tales. It's a show for EVERYONE and is written for EVERYONE! The same demographics as Disney's animated films, Pixar, and Harry Potter. Saying FIM "it's for little girls" when it factually isn't is an insult to every single person who watches and adores this show.

In fact, it's also a major insult to Faust herself. Don't believe me? Read this famous screenshot of a reply by Faust to an anti-brony:

So, people who claim FIM is "for little girls," get it RIGHT. You're doing nothing except reinforcing blatant sexism towards men and women by spouting the blatant "it's for little girls" lie.

@@Grumpy Enchantress, Your post merely enforces how much you (and by extension, anyone else with the same mindset) need to learn abut marketing.

1. The parents pay for the products because they are the target audience. Target audience is about selling the product to a demographic. You can't sell to kids because kids don't have the income. Hasbro (and any other company trying to get families into the brand) have to sell their products to the parents or any adult guardian because they are the ones who decide whether FIM, Transformers, Thomas, Spongebob, or whatever is appropriate for their children.

2. Once more, read Faust's comment. She said she was aiming the show at girls and parents. Including adult male parents. She encourages people of all ages to watch and enjoy feminine products and spoke out against the concept that products should be pandered to one demographic. She helped reboot FIM with the intention of reviving Bonnie Zacherle's bold feminist concept: Ponies are accessible to everyone and enjoyable for everyone.

By saying FIM's animation is "for girls" when it objectively isn't, you're enforcing the concept that male bronies aren't entitled to enjoy this show and call out any issues so it gets better, even if you claim you do. Male and female bronies young and old are equally entitled to enjoy the show, praise it, and critique it because FIM's a family-friendly show. All-ages, unisex, gender-neutral. A product that speaks against the idea that people should be stuck in specific roles, and a product that enforces people to call out such bigotry once they see it, even in FIM itself. The family-friendly concept we've seen in the examples I already laid out. Part of Lauren's vision was to make the concept accessible across boundaries, something you could not say with MLP from Tales to 3.5.

3. And it's a fact that the first-party toys' target market is girls. You see that all the time in the commercials and placement of these toys in their respective aisles. The main series's toys is for girls around six and up, while EQG's is around ten and up. But that's partly what makes these toys a bad thing. To quote:

(Unfortunately, the poor first-party toys still pander to their parents, and the gender stereotypes in the toy industry altogether are still a major problem.)

Companies like Hasbro and Mattel are selling products to parents of kids of specific sexes, and toy stores around the world are shelving them in specific gender categories. Toys should be accessible and marketed to everyone, and the companies continually market them without giving as much as a thought of that in mind. When you see these companies market toys to only one gender, they're sending implications that the other demographics are pointless and worthless. Sexism is partially enforced this way, which makes it damning to everyone, including the age ranges and gender the companies claim they speak to.

If Hasbro's going to stomp down on sexism in the toy industry, then they need to speak out against the sex discrimination in the toy market and market these toys that are not only in better build quality, but in commercials and advertisements that feature boys and girls playing with the same products together. Toys R Us UK began this last year by merging the aisles together and eliminating the notion that toys are for specific sexes, but more work needs to be done.
