Warning: The following is a semi-unabridged description of Amazonian Culture...

This Amazon:

RNO1: IB Dock

The Inbound (IB) Dock is where we unloaded packages from trucks sent in from vendors. Now, at RNO1, this was the funnest place ever. The IB Dock can best be described as a place where you could just act silly (not horse around, of course, but) - random whooping, being loud and, more often than not, saturated with hilariously lewd comments... Kind of like 4chan.

The Work:
I will dispel any mystery surrounding warehouse work (especially Amazon... and probably any other place of work, for that matter... except, you know ... some places): it's super monotonous.

Unload-er > take package off truck, and put it on the line. for like, 9 hours a day
Check-in person > Scan package barcode, scan PO. All day
Package Opener > cut open packages that need to be opened, remove dunage
Sorter > Prep goes here, Problems there, Rambo right there and LP over there.

Wash and repeat for the duration of your stay on the dock.

The Environment:
Very laid-back it was. This is the place where it was common to see people in a good mood at work :o

You also learned life lessons back there, such as

  • Everyone will complain. No exceptions.

How you learn this is: on the dock, the Package Opener is supposed to open all the boxes (that need to be opened). If you let one slip by that was supposed (ii.e. was not a set, when we thought it was) to be opened, le Receiver would come back to the dock and whine.

HOWEVER, if we opened a box that did not seem like a set, le Receiver would come back and whine as well... even though we were specifically told to OPEN THE BOXES (i.e. if it was a set and we opened it, the Receiver has a tape gun at their station for a reason >:/ ).

Also, if you bring up this logic yourself, the Receiver would complain that it's not their job.

Even though they are required to have their PPE (Personal Protective Equipment - i.e. gloves and a box cutter) on them at all times and their stations are stocked with tape...

But yeah, that was our fault >_>

The Catchphrases:
Yes. Each function has a certain set of go-to phrases that are uttered more than once throughout the day.

+ "Push it! Push it REAL GOOD!" - Yes, from that Salt N' Pepper commercial. We say this when we need to push the packages on the line down towards the sorter. It was usually responded with, "I'm pushin' it - I'm pushin' it real good!"

+ [random 90's/00's songs' lyrics] - What better way to kill time and make work more fun than belting out some Barbie Girl lyrics or the chorus from I'm Blue, or even Tell Me When To Go (yes, we go hard-dumb back there :P )

+ "Yaaaah!" - Also vocalized as, "Yaaah, trick!" or "Yaaah, mule!", it is a synonym to the phrase, "Yeah!" or, "Let's go!!"

+ "WHOOOO!" - Highly ambiguous and almost always used positively, this exclamation is used in lieu of cheering.

+ "Come on, dock crew!" - kind of self-explanatory

+ "Who's Checking-in?" - also self-explanitory
