1969
As the big band era draws to a close, as Neil Armstrong walks on the moon, as Nixon begins his game-changing term in office, we sing out the end of the decade that changed everything. The 1960s were the end of the American golden age, and the start of the years we called home up through the end of the cold war. Welcome to our silver years.
There were alot of songs I thought about using for this year. I wanted to play Fortunate Son by CCR, because it was such an important song for the latter part of the Cold War. I thought about playing Get Back, by The Beatles, but decided against it and put the Beatles earlier in the timeline. I even thought about posting Sugar Sugar by The Archies, and devoting the entire post to ranting about how awful it is, but I decided against that too.
In the end, I wanted to give the jazz age the send-off it deserves. I have passed up on far too many fantastic Frank Sinatra songs over these years, and now finally have a chance to post the pinnacle of the man's long and prolific career. The fitting eulogy to years gone by and an era lost.
Sing us out, Frankie. This is My Way.
