Innovations: MTA Maryland provides commuter bus service for people who live in the suburban areas of Maryland who work in the metropolitan areas of Washington DC and Baltimore. As an incentive to keep these people from driving and help reduce traffic during rush hour MTA Maryland offers a "Guaranteed Connection" service for passengers connecting from MTA Maryland's MARC train service to bus service. If the Train is late arriving at a station, Buses are ordered to wait until the train arrives so that passengers wont miss their bus connection. MTA Maryland operates some of its commuter bus lines but contracts most of them to charter bus companies in a unique public private venture.
