Frequent Flyer Program and First Class Arrangments: American Airlines loyalty program is known as AAdvantage and it is the oldest program as well as the largest with over 67 million members. After the De-regulation of the Airline Industry in 1978 American Airlines began to look for ways to offer benefits to repeat customers. Members of AAdvantage gain access to various lounges and other facilities depending on the tier of membership. American Airlines was the first to offer co-branded credit cards with Citi-group. Members who reach 2 million miles receive lifetime platinum status.

Livery and Tail Flash: American Airlines rebranded itself in 2013 after its merger with U.S. Airways (making it the worlds largest airline) with a new logo and brushed silver paint scheme. Its widely regarded as one of the best looking flag carriers in the skies. The new American Airlines Tail Flash features the American Flag rather than the previous "AA" logo.

Innovations: American Airlines serves 4 continents and more international destinations than any other airline in the United States. During World War II American Airlines used the Douglas DC-3 and called its aircraft "Flagships". This is the reason today its exclusive lounge is called "The Admirals Club". In its long history American Airlines acquired over 80 smaller airline companies to expand service even farther than was previously capable.

It's a big ol' airline indeed. Unfortunately, it partially got so big because of all the said mergers and acquisitions, which usually meant lots of flight cuts from un-profitable hubs, or being too close to a larger one. Plus it's one less livery flying out there.

I've got a mixed opinion on AA; plenty of people complain about it (or him/her, since corporations are people) and whatnot (although who doesn't complain about any airline?). I've flown just one trip with AA, going through its DFW and ORD hubs, and I have to say they were ok (tip for flying: shut up and relax, try to interact as little as possible with employees). As an aviation enthusiast/plane spotter, they're probably my favorite, or at least were my favorite until they revealed that hideous new livery that the whole world will get to see. It was a big shame that they threw away a really iconic logo, only to be replaced with a weird beak-logo that could belong to any airline or organization (Avianca's new logo is very similar to the new American logo, and actually did better with the logo since it looks like an eagle). I actually used to want to fly for American when I would have grown up just to fly on their polished-metal aircraft with the red white and blue stripes (MD80s being my favorite). Not to say they didn't need a new livery, but there were a lot of good concept liveries drawn out there, and I'm surprised they stuck with this one instead.

Used to want to as of several years ago xP . If I'm doing something cool, I have to look good in it.
