I Frequent a website called WND, it's an alternative news site. My favorite sub section is education because it keeps me informed of education in America and else-where. Whenever the "state" of Public school is mentioned in that particular section I tend to get depressed because schools all across america do seem to have lost it's relevance, in one instance, a child was suspended for chewing his pop tart like pastry into what the teacher thought was a gun he was a gun (now he has a criminal record).
I live right next to a high school, I once posed a question to one of the graduating seniors, the question was, "what's the end goal of education" it wasn't a trick question. (answer: the founding father's had quite a bit to say about what the role of education was to be) he could not answer it btw.
socializing seems to be the first and only thing that comes to mind when institutionalized schools are mentioned by kids of any age, academics doesn't even ping on their radar. Yet not all socialization is good socialization (people who have been bullied know what I'm talking about)
before our states where even states, and instead where a hand full of colonies it was understood that education had a role to play in helping the new republic "survive" from one generation to the next. today education reformers and the U.N. are not shy about the end goal of public education, To prepare children in the united states and else where to live in a global society.
The Problem with this is that Globalism has already failed, for those of you who are not paying attention,
England has pulled away from The EU. and will continue to fail
I would like to offer up a solution to the education crisis, but I'm not sure where to start. Many presidents have suggested to abolish the dept of ed, I'm not sure how this will solve our problem, the problems of our school system are many.
sorry, I got side tracked a bit there.
I was talking to a pen pal in a foreign country who could articulate the reasons why our country had three branches and could tell me why having three branches is necessary, btw he was in 4th when he told me this. 4th grade according american grading convention
sorry about this rant everypony, I mean everyone just had to get that off my chest
