Not All Magic Was Gone

Silly Druid

Before we go back to math, I decided to address something about the G5 MLP movie, and I think it's a good time to do so, because we were just talking about magic in my previous entries. So it would seem that all magic had disappeared from the world, before Sunny and her friends brought it back. But I think it's not true, and here are some examples of magical things that were still in effect:

  1. Cutie Marks - ponies still had them, and according to FiM lore, they are magical.
  2. The "sparkle" or "luminescence" that Izzy, and probably other unicorns, can see. It does sound like a magical effect. And I hope we will learn more about it in the upcoming series.
  3. Hitch's bond with animals, it looks like he has similar abilities as Fluttershy (also in some official materials his Element of Harmony is Kindness).
  4. When Izzy first meets Sunny and says "Hi, new friend! My name's Izzy!", there is a little spark of magic on her horn. I think a small amount of magic remained within the ponies, and when two ponies of different races had a friendly encounter, it reacted to it, showing that it was the way to restore all magic to the world.

That's all for now, the next entry will be around Christmas, so I think I'll do something special for it, but for now I'm not sure what it should be...

I didn't notice that. :o I'll go back and take a look.

The sun's reflecting. I don't think there's any light from her horn.

@Fluttershutter That part is missing in the video you posted. You can see it here:

I don't think it's a sun reflection, because it moves, and she doesn't move her horn. Maybe it's just a way to turn the viewer's attention to the horn, but my theory is that it's a spark of magic, and I'm sticking to it.

Awwwwwwwww

(Is that a fan edit? That's a fan edit right? I didn't see that in the movie )

About the cutie marks.... Having one cutie mark on one side, and having them so small you can't see them, is quite annoying to me. While it is something I heard G3 was using, it feels cheap to me. Also feels like tattoos rather than magic.

@Splashee It's not an edit, it is in the movie. It's an interesting thing that I mentioned it to several people so far, and none of them remembered it...

About the cutie marks, I agree with you. It looks like they decided to make them much less important and prominent than they were in G4.
