The new NASA space craft called SPHEREx began capturing the sky in 3D. It was launched on March 11th. It spent the last five-six weeks undergoing different checks to make sure it was working properly. Now it takes about 3600 images per day.
There is even a video that shows how the spacecraft scans a section of a sky.
One of the most interesting things about SPHEREx is that it maps the sky in different wavelengths. It will help scientists determine the distance to different celestial bodies and the composition of objects.
