Fire Emblem Awakening Rant

Titan Rising

Lets get this out of the way first. If you like chess and you have a 3ds get this game, it's very fun and can be very addicting

On the other side of the coin it's the most frustrating fire emblem game I've played yet not counting the sheer difficulty of the console games. So why is it the most frustrating and why does it make me want to throw my 3ds against the wall?

If you remember Fire Emblem and Fire Emblem the Sacred Stones sometimes reinforcements will arrive for the enemy and you'll have to go back and kill them or cover your flank. They'll pop up near the edges of the map or come up or down from staircases or fly in on a pegasus. It's okay though, because once they show up it's your turn again.

Well not in this game. In this they just show up and attack right away, and in my opinion this has COMPLETELY RUINED THE GAME. It gives you absolutely zero notice, and forces you to watch every staircase and all the spaces along the edge of the map. If you have a pegasus knight or a dancer or a healer they're screwed unless you make sure you have forces barricading every hallway off so they cant just commit suicide and run in the middle of your whole army and take out one of your supporting characters in a single hit.

There is absolutely no way to know if a pegasus knight is gonna pop up and kill your dancer on an outdoor stage. Theres no way to know if an archers gonna pop up and take out one of your pegasus knights on an indoor stage. Sometimes Paladins will appear and run up and even take out a decent fighter if their health isn't all the way up, and sometimes reinforcements will appear when you've carefully calculated how you're gonna take out an enemy squad and then I'm screwed again

I mean OH MY GOD NINTENDO. You make some great games but then you just ruin them by making the stupidest decisions. You're making me constantly account for staircases and you put them all over the room. I can't even effectively barricade off hallways because there is absolutely no way to know whats coming

Fire Emblems compared to chess a lot. Okay, so how about a game of chess where your opponent can bring back queens and knights to any space on the side of the board on their turn?

.... Sorry, after losing a dancer on this same stage for the 5th time now from a random enemy spawning on a random staircase that had never spawned there in my prior hour long attempts, I'm a little on edge

Having to replay stages because enemies that I can't account for suddenly appear and kill off my characters.

.......................................................

I bet this game is actually fun on casual mode. I dunno why I choose hard, might as well have just gone with lunatic if I'm replaying levels this much

The enemy commander actually usually gives you a warning like 'yes, come my reinforcements!' At least a turn or two before they come, so the warnings are certainly there. I agree that reinforcements moving on the turn they're summoned is kind of a dick move though, and I too liked it better in the previous games where they didn't move until after the turn they were summoned. It's managable though, and overall I still think that it's the best FE game after finishing it once.

they only give you that warning about half the time, and even then its a struggle to manage when they have staircases in every room.  Basically you cant have a pegasus knight or dancer or healer out or they're in threat of dying

I'm dealing with it, and I do love the game.  What difficulty did you beat it on?

I've tried Lunatic in the demo and it's much harder, don't take it lightly. :o

Making me wish I had a 3ds. Everyone's playing all these new games, and I'm sitting here playing Seisen no Keifu, and it's quite difficult, if only because I have no idea what I'm doing, and follows a very different structure (It seems like it's easier if you use the arena, seeing as it has no penalty. It's also Shipping:The video game.). Does Awakening follow the basic structure of previous games? I heard it has DLC?

Yeah same basic structure.  Only thing thats really different is what i was talking about above and being able to pair up units and have them fight together

Yet to play it(European), but certainly a big fan of the series.

Nice to see some FE love here!
