TJ the killer and the value of life.
Hello all, Lawful Jordo here once again. I'ts been a while since my last blog entry, but I believe I have found something worth writing about. A trail back in February 2013 has caught my attention, and I believe it is worth discussing.
TJ Lane, now 18, was a loner, a victim to being bullied. He was an intelligent student positioned to graduate early... not insane, incompetent, or impaired. He was a model student with a promising future.
But in February of 2013, Lane pled guilty and was sentenced to three life terms in prison without chance of parole for shooting three students, and injuring three more at Chardon High School in Ohio. Lane, 17 at the time of the shooting, all but advertised his lack of remorse. He even unbuttoned his blazer in court to reveal a white t-shirt with the word "KILLER" printed across it in unmistakable clarity. He smirked and even laughed while family members of the deceased spoke. When asked if he wanted to make a statement before the court, Lane stood and said “The hand that pulled the trigger that killed your sons now masturbates to the memory. Fuck all of you.” He then raised his middle finger at the entire courtroom.
While the prosecutor claims that Lane did not know the students he targeted and chose them randomly, other students will confirm that this was not the case. Witnesses say that when TJ Lane opened fire in the school cafeteria, his first target was Russell King Jr. King, who died as a result of the shooting, was in a relationship with Lane's ex-girlfriend, and had been known to make derogatory comments towards and Lane and threaten to beat him up. It's reported that Lane had wanted to learn to fight so he could take on King. Friends of King's girlfriend say that not only King, but all six of the victims knew Lane. Why this fact was concealed and not brought up in court is so far a mystery.
Now, we've all heard of school shootings before. One thing that really stood out about this case however is how many people actually supported and continue to support TJ Lane.
All across the internet I found that the majority of the comments are calling him a hero; some even claiming that they would do the same in his shoes.
Some notable comments include:
"I fuckin love him!!! his shirt and what he said... hes amazing!"
"He should be given a medal. kids are always told how to deal with bullies in proper fashion, in my opinion he did."
"this kid is my new fucking hero."
"Fuck bullies kill em all!"
For obvious reasons, the commentors will remain anonymous.
Now keep in mind these aren't just a few people. Almost everywhere I go the vast majority seem to respect, even admire TJ for his horrific crime.
Now, I'm sure a lot of us have been bullied at one time or another. I've suffered from physical and psychological bullying throughout junior high, and even through most of high school. I know what it feels like to be bullied. What TJ did was not heroic, it was not to be admired. It was cowardly; plain and simple.
There will always be douche-bags out there people; it's practically a fact of life. People will give you a hard time, maybe even make your life miserable. Does this mean they deserve to die? Hell no. Who gave him the right to judge people worthy of death?
This goes beyond standing up for yourself; this is cold blooded murder. Murder is not okay just because the person you killed was someone you didn't like. TJ Lane is indeed what his shirt says he is; a killer, not a hero. It just makes me sick to see so many support them.
The victim's families did not torment TJ, though they still lost their children to a cowards skewed sense of righteousness.
And yet, TJ is still seen as the victim in most peoples eyes....
TL;DR version:
*Sigh*, Fuck people.... Seriously.
