I need help with a computer issue

For some reason, my computer/internet has been really slow today, and it's not normally like this. I'm not sure what to do to fix this problem or what the cause of it is. If someone could help me, I would really appreciate it, thanks.

Dust your computer.

Don't think about it, just dust it.

I could barely use my computer, but then I dusted it and it worked great.

Use a condensed air can.

Oh I forgot to mention that it's a laptop, I don't know if that makes a difference.

Internet speed is not fixed. It can vary depending on certain internal and external factors. On some days, your connection may be slower than on others.

How are you connecting to the Internet? If you're sharing the connection with anyone, it could well be that they're using up the bandwidth (compare bandwidth to a tube; wider tubes allow more data to be transferred). It could also be that someone is leeching off your Internet, that the ISP itself is experiencing increased traffic, or that your computer is running programs, which could include malware, that are connected to the Internet.

Your computer could be slow due to disk or registry fragmentation. It's always a good idea to defragment your hard drive regularly, as this both increases the efficiency at which data is transferred, and raises the lifespan of the drive. Newer Windows versions do this automatically, but better programs do exist online (Auslogics Disk Defrag, for example, is a well known and well regarded program).

If it's your computer being slow (like, it takes a long time for windows or programs to open or close), then run an antivirus scan, defragment your hard drive, clean up junk files, etc. Routine maintainance tasks.

If your internet is slow downloading or opening pages, then run an antivirus scan and clear your broweser's cache. Use a website like speedtest.net to test your connection speed against what it should be. If it's slow, restart your modem and/or router and try again. If that doesn't fix it, try waiting a while. Internet speed fluctuates with a variety of factors and can seem to randomly drop before returning to normal.

Pour water on it. Cleans out the hardware y'know?

And while you're at it, delete System32 ;)

Try rebooting the computer.

Not much, but atleast its not some immature comment.

I said earlier in the comments that I did that, and it seemed to help.

Check the task manager. Chances are, some process bugged out, during... I don't know, faulty update or something and is using 100% CPU. :3

1.) If you run windows, check the action center for errors

2.) Go and make sure that you don't have a bunch of unnecessary programs that launch automatically when your computer starts up.

3.) Dust your computer's various openings via a condensed air can (If you experience slow down as well as overheating, and you're comfortable enough with tools and computers, feel free to take the back panels off the laptop and dust it off internally, if not, find someone tech savvy to do it for you)

4.) Make sure none of your RAM chips are loose

5.) Use High-Performance as your power plan if you're going to be having it plugged in or don't mind shorter battery life

6.) Clear your cookies

7.) Defragment your computer

8.) Scan for viruses and malware.

9.) Make sure that your CPU is up to the stress you put it under, press Ctrl Alt Delete and click task manager, make sure that your computer is not often hitting 100% CPU usage. If it is, consider running less applications at once, or upgrade to a better computer, if you can afford that.

I hope at least one of these steps helps you.
