A letter from me

There's a teacher in my middle school who has all of her 7th grade students write letters to themselves to be delivered just before they graduate. She writes her own letter to the students graduating wishing us luck and letting us know how she's been.

Today I got mine back. Unfortunately I have a pretty good memory so I remember that a lot of the stuff I wrote wasn't very interesting. Despite that I found some of the stuff I included was not what I had expected.

Here's a few of the parts that stand out:

"Just in case you can't remember what grade you wrote this in it was in seventh grade."

Really? Did I think I was going to be so old that I would forget that? Obviously 5 years seemed a lot longer back then.

"the third shortest person in school"

That's pretty specific, but sad. I'm proud to say I'm finally taller than 5 feet, but there's still a high possibility this is also true in high school...or anywhere I go really.

"I have learned all the different parts of speech and lots of other grammar rules"

Of all the things...too bad I don't remember any of that now.

"I learned that boys are still immature and I hope they have grown up by the time you read this."

Don't worry 7th grade me, they most certainly haven't.

"I also learned that some people are very annoying like Rochelle"

There's actually a funny story behind this. Rochelle was and still is my best friend. We got in an argument the day that this was due. I knew that I would regret saying something completely rude about her or taking her out of my list of friends, so I included a subtle reminder that we were arguing, even though I knew it wouldn't last.

What's funny is that that was the one line I remember writing. For five years the memory of writing that has stuck with me. Who knows why.

"I hope you have not given into peer pressure and have not gotten pregnant from some random guy"

Well, okay then. That part I don't remember writing. Obviously I thought high school was all sex, drugs, and alcohol probably based on the stereotypes. From what I know now though that's pretty much what the middle school has turned into since I left there. But at least I know I fulfilled one of my expectations...
