Distancing Myself From The Brony Fandom
You guys may have been wondering why I haven't posted at all lately, despite me saying that I would be active come the late Spring after I returned from my first leave. Well, besides the obvious reasons of work and college studies taking up my internet time, there is a reason that goes beyond that.
I have become disillusioned with the entire Brony community in general. I have been a fan of the show ever since the end of the first season and during that time, I've met some really nice people from specific IRC chats, Facebook pages, and of course, right here on MLPForums, which I registered for around 2 years ago. Members like Chaotic Discord and Artemis were awesome to me during my time here, and Artemis was even the one to convince me to stay when I decided to leave for a bit the first time. But, just looking at the recent forum community and throughout all the Internet, I think it's safe for me to say this: while the Brony community is certainly not dying, it's becoming more and more of a plague.
Everytime I come on here and look at the Show Discussion Boards, I mainly see topics that have so much insignificant drama in them that really isn't needed, such as the "taboo" conversations about Alicorn Twilight and Equestria Girls. I mean, geez guys, I don't think I've even seen these many confrontations in the Trekkie realms when panel nerds scream "KIRK!" "PICARD!" "KIRK!" "PICARD!" And quite frankly, the moderators don't merge any of the topics that deal with these sort of complaints, so naturally, that's pretty much all I see besides the usual speculation topics and storyline guesses, although even that sometimes can transform into a fight between the EG haters and lovers. >.> I get sick of the community tearing itself apart over such retarded arguments. If you don't have faith in EG, then okay, stfu please and leave the lovers alone. Don't make it your crusade to purge all hope for it. Also, it's not just on here I'm talking about, it's pretty much a topic that's still debated on Facebook and /mlp/. I've pretty much unliked all Pony FB pages at this point anyways because all they do is likewhore shitty fan fic and gifs.
Oh yeah, and the fan fics too? Screw them to hell, literally. FiMFiction is cancer, and here's why. Most of the stories I read on there are DISGUSTING. Shipping loopholes, violent grimdark stories, raunchy deviant escapades, etc. MLP is a children's show, for starters. Ever since the dumbass creation of Cupcakes came out, psychos came out of the woodwork and started to make even more ridiculous stories about innocent ponies chopping each other up without any sense of set-up or direction. It's literally the norm now to make the most raunchy or gruesome material out of a show that is meant for a wholesome family. It's sickening. It's like trying to glorify a story about Mr. Rogers slicing one of his children's head open while the trolley continuously runs over and mangles their dead body. People just do this shit for attention, and again, most of these stories serve no rhyme or reason. In order for a story to have beauty, one must embrace their writing with the utmost of care, which fan fiction writers rarely do.
Also, I also have seen many "e-celeb" Bronies that the community looks up to that are wicked assholes to their fans, like CelticBrony, Yells At Cats, and MandoPony. Hell, Yells At Cats even degraded an autistic fan of his on Skype by offering him a fake record contract to record music. You know, because this community tries to thrive on "friendship" and to "love and tolerate" and yet he just goes and mocks the autistic kid who doesn't know any better, ironic considering that's what dicks from 4chan basically call the community, just a bunch of autistic neckbeards. Well, here's an idea. Maybe our "spokespeople" for our community should stop acting like elitist asses and just enjoy the show for what it is. Tsch, making raps about Applejack while at the same time incorporating drugs and genocide? Yeah, stay classy.
I might be ranting on and on, but in the end, I just don't have time to put up with the various things this community has done in the past months or so. I'm just going to stop supporting the whole culture in general. I'm still a big fan of the show, and will await EG and Season 4 with great pleasure, but as far as expressing interest into going to Cons and such, not interested.
Before you all say that "every community has their share of problems", I understand that. But to me, this community was very special at first because people were genuinely being nice enough to watch the show and to share their insecurities and to push over the boundaries of gender roles and to spread a social message. Now it's all about backstabbing, image, and popularity. People don't care about the actual show as much as the fan created content or the Cons. I guess you can call me a "Conservative Brony" on that part.
Well, whatever. I'm done with this post. If you guys can, give me one good reason why I should stay in the fandom. Because quite frankly, I don't see it happening.
