Very interesting story that reflects a lot on people's points of view.

I got to my apartment around 12:30 am tonight. When I drive down my street, I turn on my high beams because the street is pitch black and sometimes there are cats or strays in the road and so that I can see parking spots. I see a kitten so I park my truck, get out and walk up the road a bit trying to see if I can spot it. When a teeny mutt of a dog barks at me, I turn around so I don't keep pissing it off because I dun wanna wake my neighbors.

Now, here is the thing. Two neighborhood (teens or young adults) call out to me from their porch. all I can see are their cigarettes because its so dark. They ask me what I was doing, who I was looking for, and if I even lived here. I told them I live here and I was looking for a stray cat I was hoping to catch. They instantly relax and we start talking about the strays and they even offered to catch it since their mom feeds the strays sometimes.

What caught me off guard was how quickly they called out to me and wanted to know who I was and what I was doing.

Then it hit me: Here is what THEY saw from their Point of View:

Truck drives down their street with high beams on. Some stranger gets out of the car and begins searching around the streets near other people's cars. Stranger gets barked at by a dog and quickly turns around to leave.

To these guys (whom I am 85% sure we've seen each other in the day light but because it was night we couldn't tell who is who), I am some stranger who is prowling the neighborhood and they didn't want me to start trouble.

To me I was just hunting for a kitty.

I am not upset or even bothered but it is such a culture shock for me because in my old neighborhood (very well lit and whatnot), I would walk around all the time at night and no one cared...

This is a very interesting perspective from two completely different worlds....

That is very interesting. Your story is one of many examples of why it is essential to try to look at situations from the perspective of others in addition to your own.
