The Porsche 918 spyder, a hybrid done right. Germans got the magic, I'm sure some have seen concepts from this car but it's becoming available and the concept looks just like the one they will sell.

I was surprised when I read about this car, you're so used to hybrid being boring.. *cough* Prius *cough*.. Then Porsche just decided that they should change that, they sure did.. It has a 4,6 litre V8 developing 608 horsepower with two electrical motors that give it another 279 horsepower. Combined, this car has 887 horsepower.. *drools*.. With 1,275 N-m (940 lbf-ft) of torque.

With a 0-60 mph (0-100 kph) time of only 2,8 seconds and it's 7,9 seconds up to 120 mph (200 kph) and it's top speed is 210 mph (340 kph). These numbers are amazing, anyone who doesn't see that is clearly out of their minds especially when you see the fuel consumption. 3.3 L/100 km or around 70 mpg. We're talking about a car that is producing 887 horsepower with these laughable numbers. All I could say to this, is one thing.. When it comes to hybrids, the Germans are doing it right.

I'm not a fan of hybrids, but this is actually something I had pictured. A car that uses the electric motor as a boost. They also have a Porsche panamera hybrid. Again, I'm not really interested in hybrids but the fact that it actually has pedal shifters was what caught my eye. Usually hybrids are automatic only but you can see it has a 7-speed gearbox. If they could make one without the paddle shifter and just give us a stick shift, I would be all over it.. Sadly, this car costs 845,000 USD.. So I don't see it happening anytime soon.

Still, I think this a breakthrough for hybrids and it will certainly change the way people look at hybrids. Now when I think of hybrids the Porsche 918 spyder comes to mind. I'm excited to see where this car will lead others, I wonder if we will be seeing a lot of V8s in the future with this technology, I guess only time will tell.

At the moment this car isn't really my dream car since the BMW M4 already has that place in my heart. But what I think is cool, is that something I had thought to myself that would work a long time ago is now actually a Porsche.

So my opinion is that this car is indeed the greatest hybrid yet, feel free to share your opinions.
