Entry 2

why shooters and rpgs should blend

(Entry type Idea)

In the modern game market the are many genre's of games rpg,s,puzzles, plat formers, and rpgs to name a few. Over the years some have been mixed for example Shadow of the colossus is a action adventure game with puzzle solving elements. So now in the current age of gameing some genres are more popular then others and 2 examples are shooters and rpgs. when you think about it their not that different sure one is swords and spells and the others is guns and bullets but under the surface the are very similar first off they both have story as a big part of the experience for the most part. 2nd objective based missions/quests are common. final example character progression in rpgs you level up in shooters you get better guns are perks and even perks are like the ability in rpgs it goes full circle at that point. Now they have been mixed before fall out is a open world rpg with shooter mechanics as game play :) .

So if they have already been blended before what am i trying to say here?

well i think they should do this more often its becoming more common and i think that should continue. :) So the other Q is why is it a good thing the answer is simple variety with more game genres mixed there are more things the developers can play with. Its sorta like cooking mix in ingredients and something good might happen now not all genres mix well so like cooking you need a recipe and in this case that recipe is the balance between the different game play styles for example a upcoming game by monolith soft called

X has open world rpg, shooter, magic and Mechs

aka robots the player gets in B)

This variety of game play elements provides developers much room to work with. so all this raise,s a interesting Q if game genres do better together why did we ever keep them separate well i think this is because sometimes the elements dont mix so having games only focus on 1 genre makes it easier to handle development wise for example spore had a different genre for each of its 5 stages cell stage was like pac man creature stage was like a action adventure

Tribe stage was a RTS=real time strategy. Civilization stage was a well like the game civilization. and space stage was a single MMO= multiy player online game.

That,s alot of things and even as a big spore fan i agree with IGN spore is more then the sum of its parts cuss on its own the stages dont stand out much. so what spore can teach both gamers and game developers mixing to many genres or ones that dont fit together can leave a game feeling empty or un even.

So why do i think rpgs and shooters will mix well?

In my opinion since they are both popular and very common for gamers to buy i would say they worth a try to mix and so far with games like fallout and borderlands i think thees 2 genres mix very well.

:)

So this entry's Q what are 2 game genres you think should be mixed other then shooters and RPG,s?

:)
