  1. I think that there is a place for dark things, but I am not sure if it is necessarily with MLP. One would have to keep in mind the original audience and make sure that if it is dark, then it must "fit" and not go beyond the show's scope. I also agree with Stellafera in that (at least in the case of MLP) darkness for sake of darkness is something I would rather see avoided.

Though to be honest, I am not sure if I really want to see it go that dark, most of us who love the show for what it is now, which is rather optimistic. Compare that to things people in my age group (I am 19) are into, and you will find that they are very dark more often then not. The thing about MLP is that it is the only light hearted show that I love it for what it is without any sort of irony, despite it not really being that dark (sure it has it's moments, but it always hits the right amount to keep you engaged without destroying the shows "alignment" if you catch my drift).

  2. In terms of Martial Arts, I know how to use a Naginata and Sai Swords, though out of the two I only own the Sai Swords (not complaining because they are awesome). I also have family in Africa and they sent me an african dagger which was cool, and my family has a couple axes lying around the house if those count.

  3. Our media mirrors society. Video games to not make people violent, our society does. We glorify war and our government does the same. Violent games are a reflection on a violent society and are not the cause of violence.

Though Violent games can effect a young mind, that is the fault of negligent parents who are letting their children play games and watch movies they shouldn't be exposed to at such a young age.

I would like to add that it was actually confirmed that M Rated games are the hardest restricted media to acquire, much harder then even R Rated movies. Here is a source for that.

  4. No, to be honest it is my personal belief that violence is just human nature and people will use anything they can to justify a violent act on someone else, or have someone correlate it with violence for sake of insecurity, power abuse, ect.

Oh and the Jimquisition summed it up perfectly with a video appropriately called "Desensitized To Violence", however, if you want to see the video then be warned that there is a very disturbing clip in it (which he uses as both a test and proof in his video). I will not link it here for sake of the rules, but I would recommend seeing it on your own time if you want to, the video does give you adequate warnings as to when it appears and what is in it, there are even times listed in the description if you want to skip it. Either way he makes a powerful point.

  5. I have to go with Jumpstyle, and I do love Stamp on the ground too, though my favorite Italobrothers song is Radio Hardcore, though the video is still out of the ordinary.

While I am at it, here is a jumpstyle meet in Germany.

  6. My name essentially means "Dream Magic" (similar to how necromancy is used to describe magic relating to the dead), more specifically it is divination via dreams. I chose it because I am an avid lucid dreamer and happen to love dreaming in general. I also get euphoria from having dreams from time to time.

  7. I would have to say it was mostly hot wheels and lego, but Bionicle especially, seeing as Bionicle pretty much was my childhood in this particular regard.

  8. I personally believe anyone should be able to cry without scrutiny regardless of things like gender. While I was in high school, I took a sociology class and we had a unit on men and social norms. Consider this, we (in America) have some school shootings, and about 80% of all suicides being male, and you know what the most common thing I hear from people in these cases is? "I had no idea anything was wrong with him." But that is it, isn't it, when you consider that when a woman is showing any sign of distress then she is immediately sent to help or someone reports it to get her help in some way.

Also, there are cases like the Virginia Tech shooting where the person who did the shootings was not only very open about his violent attitudes, they went completely unnoticed and no one bothered to do anything until well after the shooting took place. Or, going back to what I said about "having no idea they would do it", remember Columbine? The shooters did what they did after being bullied for the longest time, again, nothing was done about it and it was not recognized properly until well after the shooting took place. In our society (or at least American society), guys are more or less socially conditioned to hide their emotions, and thus a girl is usually given assistance before she does these things.

  9. I have always been a fan of Bungie's Marathon series, it is now free for those who want to try it out.

Also, Alan Wake is not that well known even though it was very good, especially in the music and story department.

BlazBlue is spectacular  for those of us who love fighting games. But it also has some of the best characters I have ever seen, and I am quite serious there (not that my word means much here....).

  10. @Bloo47, that is one of my favorites, especially with the added intro.

    Anyway, I got some.

If the opera-esque singing style is not your thing, there are other versions, if it effects your being able to hear the lyrics, here they are.

    You never lived to see

    What you gave to me
One shining dream of hope and love
    Life and liberty
With a host of brave unknown soldiers
For your company you will live forever
    Here in our memory

    In fields of sacrifice
    Heroes paid the price
Young men who died for old men's wars
    Gone to paradise
We are all one great band of brothers
And one day you'll see we can live together
When all the world is free

I wish you'd lived to see
    All you gave to me
Your shining dream of hope and love
    Life and liberty
We are all one great band of brothers
And one day you'll see - we can live together
When all the world is free

  11. I Lucid dream all the time (I think my record is 7 times in one day, if I remember right). I love them, and they can act as euphoric triggers/amplifiers for me. My name, if anyone is curious, essentially refers to Dream Magic. I will say that I will get sleep paralysis, but it is totally worth it. I recall a time when I was in a SP during school and began hallucinating (or something similar), it was awesome.

  12. At the moment it might be "What you hate me for makes me proud." but it would require a lot of explaining. In short, one way of looking at it is that you can't impress everyone, and even your negative qualities flesh out your character and make your positive ones more noticeable. There is more to it, but again, that would require a lot of explaining.

  13. This is one of those topics that I usually draw a mental blank on. But I do have something that might count, I have the natural ability to experience euphoria without doing anything. Pretty much anything can be enhanced with that feeling, even if you are doing absolutely nothing. Though if I had to pick any day in particular, then it would probably be July 3rd 2010.

  14. I pretty much agree with what everyone else is saying, about the characters, the setting, and things like that, but here are some of the things I will single out specifically that I don't always hear being mentioned.

The characters: The characters just being awesome and well written is one thing, but consider the characters in context with what Faust wanted to do with the show. She is big on making more fictional female heroines, but she did something that you don't really see here, she succeeded. A major reason for me, awesome writing aside, was that she did it without having to say "Girls are awesome because guys suck." in some way, shape, or form.

It's treatment of Introversion and Cynicism: Normally in a show about Friendship, especially one directed to younger audiences, you would probably expect the introverted cynic to be viewed as the devil incarnate. But that never happens, which is a pleasant surprise for me considering I am introverted and lean towards cynicism more often then not. Fluttershy and very possibly Twilight are introverted and then you have the cynical Cranky. But they got it right with Cranky because I would normally look at this scenario and think about how the person helping the cynic has an alternative motive than wanting the cynic to feel better. It also understands that forcefully shoving optimism into a cynics face will not always make them feel better (it can, but not always, it usually depends on why they are the way they are).

The Setting: Equestria has a rather thick history and one would not know all of it's secrets or what it contains at a glance. There is a genuine mythology to it, and it is rather interesting in and of itself.

There were probably others, but I do not think I remember them yet, perhaps I will post them later if there were any.
