  1. Released four days early? That's gotta be an academy record. Oh shut up Swoop

For someone who tends to watch the series rather passively these days, the episode didn't really strike me as particularly memorable, however that's not to say it wasn't enjoyable nonetheless - particularly for one written by Merriwether Williams. I was glad to see that Dash was able to come across as confident without the associated arrogant undertones we've been met with in previous episodes, and like others, I can't say I was a fan of the new Spitfire VA, though considering her role as a drill instructor, the voice seemed to fit her character well enough.

Pinkie's typical comedic overreactions came across as a mix of both humorous asides, and filler that could have been better spent expanding upon Thunder Dust's character shift from congenial to reckless. Whether the episode could have done without them comes down to your opinion of Pinkie's character in general I suppose. As for the ending, It did seem to leave a few loose ends; whether or not rainbow continues her training, let's just hope that the academy doesn't suffer the same unacknowledged fate as her pet tortoise.

  2. The path to success is not misleading; It is the intention to walk the path of success that's misleading. It's a creativity killer, it's the cause of most writers blocks, it turns you from an artist into a hungry crowd pleaser, always one step behind chasing success, instead of the step ahead you were before you became big - Maybe, if you give up the need to be successful, the magic begins to happen once more.

This is the challenge of a career in music.

Any genere that takes a step into the mainstream spotlight will feel the effects of

. Thankfully, not all artists have their sights set on monetary gains - it just means we have to dig a little deeper to find the real music.

  3. If we're looking at a 'Support Ticket' lock-rate of up to 50% for feedback threads, that would be an indicator that users aren't aware of the proper method of submitting technical issues and/or moderator disputes. Perhaps instead of catering towards reporting and/or locking such threads, a more constructive approach would be to increase the overall prominence of the ticketing system itself, aiming to increase awareness of its existence and function, whether that be through the announcement bar displayed at the top of an individual forum, a more noticeable location for 'Contact MLP Forums' than the drop down 'Help' menu on the banner bar, or similar methods. While pointing users in the right direction is easier said than done, over the longer term, prevention is often the most viable solution.

  4. I'll try yours if you try mine.

    A done deal.

Hey, I remember coming across that game when I was dicking about Newgrounds one night - a tricky platformer, but a fun one nonetheless. And you're right; it does have quite a nice soundtrack to boot as well. ^_^

  5. A Gift from MLP Forums to You To make the celebrations all the merrier, we're granting one week of subscriber privileges to every single member FOR FREE!

Be sure to read the opening posts of announcements in Canterlot Castle - usually they clear up any misconceptions or uncertainties you may have. ;)

Additionally, donor perks were never meant to be perceived as a benefit or measure of superiority of sorts - people pay to help the site out, rather than for trivial perquisites, after all.

Before you say "Donating isn't all about the perks, it's about supporting the site instead." because this thread isn't related to that.

If we're talking about measures of unfairness with respect to a system that has never intended to rank people or form a member hierarchy, it really is quite related. :P

  6. Somebody once told me, quite seriously and honestly, that my capacity for cruelty and meanness was beyond measure.

Well you can go and tell that somebody, quite seriously and honestly, that he's an idiot. :P

I know better than most, that for the greater part of this past year, you've been subjected to enough thankless work, complaint management, report stacks, accusations of surreptitious activity and personal bias, unpopular and difficult decision making, arbitration frustrations, and general diplomacy struggles to cause even the most even-tempered of individuals to completely and utterly forfeit their mental well-being. Yet, throughout every complication, drawback, or stumbling block we've run into over the year, never once have I seen you develop a proclivity for callous behaviour or personal bitterness; you've always managed to keep the personal separate from the professional, which is more than can be said for most - i'm sure if the reverse were the case, things never would have progressed as steadily as they have.

Call me mawkish, but If this past year is anything to go by, I can say with confidence that either you've mastered the art of appearing stoic in public, or that spiteful, ill-disposed Zoop you speak of has long disappeared, 'cause he sure as hell isn't here now. :)

  7. My favourite form of spelling would have to be the one my mum brought me up with, and the one I have learnt and memorised ever since my enrollment at school; that is, the British centred form of dialogue. That said however, I could hardly criticise or pass ill-judgement upon either form of spelling, as either modell aptly fulfils the purpose of communicating clearly - provided you get your message across, it really doesn't matter.

I still call football soccer though, and refuse to use the word 'gaol', because Australian.

  8. There's only drama if you allow there to be.

That sums up my feelings quite nicely, really.

It is fitting for members to notify others of their departure, whether they choose to do so by a thread, blog, or PM.

It is not fitting for members to propagate drama by way of departures - don't take your own personal problems and make them everyone else's problem.

Instead of opting for a blanket-cover measure on those taking their leave publicly, or simply channeling such content into blogs in the hope that the drama will somehow dissipate, I believe the moderation and administration should instread reserve the right to remove any goodbye blogs, statuses, and threads that are intended to cause general unrest or dissent within the community under our stance on 'abusive behaviour', whether it be directly expressed, such as:

I've had it with these forums, the members here are all asshats, the mods are biased, the admins are incompetent and the character limit frustrates me to no end.

Or indirectly implied though a general lack of information:

    Community Status updates:

    User 1: Goodbye MLP Forums.

    User 2: WTF? Why?! D:

User 3: Get on Skype now, we need to talk.

*enque comments of shocked inquiries, bickering, and back-and-forth comments, potentially spilling over to other status updates*

Communication is important; if you're going to be inactive - be it periodically or permanently - then letting others know is the considerate thing to do. However, if you're not capable of doing so in a manner that isn't going to stir the proverbial pot, then it's probably best that you keep your sentiments to yourself.

If we can nip the drama mongering in the bud, I'm confident that departure threads can coexist peacefully within Life Advice.

  9. On a local scale? Just about anywhere south of the Bass Strait or east of the Tasman Sea - any cool temperate climate away from the busy city would be nice for a change of pace. As for global locations, I wouldn't mind spending a few years over in parts of Canada, Scandinavia, or Finland. There's also my relatives over in Denmark that I haven't had the opportunity to see in over a decade; perhaps that could provide me with the excuse I need to go on a bit of a globe-trot?

One thing is for sure though, I won't be staying in Melbourne for much longer!

  10. will the points be given the moment there post is remove for the violation or will there be a warning for it and if there seen doing it again then they get the warning points?

We've decided to opt for a simple two-step process:
    • Any content in violation of the rules is removed.
    • The member is warned and the corresponding warning points are issued.
No pre-warnings, no exceptions. Everyone gets the same treatment.*

what this gonna do for mod queues are they still here, because if people are gonna get suspended from the forum it seems pointless, unless its gonna still be use for minor offences that don't result in suspension?

We will still be using the moderation queue as required - mainly in the interest of promptly preventing sudden influxes of spam from members, as opposed to a longer-term disciplinary measure. An FAQ entry will be added in the near future to clarify the role of the mod queue.

Is posting links or pictures of NSFW through Private Messages fine as long as they don't report it?

This entire site is a NSFW-free zone; we don't allow NSFW content anywhere, PMs included. That said however, unless reported to us, we will never go though anyone's personal messages, so the issue of NSFW content in PMs is one of trust more than anything else. All we can do is ask that you respect the principles of the site, and keep NSFW content away from the Forums wherever possible.

does advertising include posting your own youtube videos? i mean its essentially not advertising (unless its about advertising) its just showing off something you made, right?

Posting and embedding individual videos and creations is completely fine - encouraged even! Slapping up a thread with just a link to your channel and leaving it at that however, is something we'd like to avoid (besides, we have an area on your profile specifically for you to link your Youtube channel). Just remember to post the actual content and you'll be fine. :)

what he said, also what about linking to FanFics that I think are relavent to the topic at hand? I do that occasionally, when a topic reminds me of a Fanfic. that's not advertising is it?

The same goes for fanfics and other creative works - linking to or copy/pasting your work directly is the way to go. If you'd like to link to something less specific, just run it by Feld0 first so he can give you the go-ahead.

*Obvious trolls do however receive special treatment. Namely a banhammer.

  11. Well, there was this one time when someone spammed nonsense on a status update until it reached the dreary 100 comment limit. There is also another case where someone keep brohoof and un-brohoof one post until the target swamped with notifications.

If the content is insulting, rude, vulgar, offensive, disparaging, belittling, derogatory, disrespectful, denigratory, pejorative, defamatory or generally unaccommodating and impacting negatively on the community - regardless of its form, and regardless of the original posters intent - we will consider the content as abusive behaviour, and act accordingly.

  13. Too bad sometimes they took hours to close a problematic thread

    I'm sorry D:

I can be bloody useless at times when it comes to being expeditious, I'll give you that much. :P

In other news, I've gone and given this thread a bit of a clean up. It seems as though there were some rather abrasive comments thrown around a few pages back - remember to play nice folks.
