Bought a 2nd Monitor the other week (Acer 22'' LCD for $20) at a local "ReStore" store. They get donations and all money they make goes to Habitat for Humanity.I picked it up only because it was the same size as my current Samsung and was also a matte screen, same as my Samsung.I just don't like the glossy type screens, they give too much glare...especially since the sun shines in the window right behind me. Matte screens significantly decreased the glare.
Anyways, I needed a cable for it, so that finally came in today and I hooked it up. Also cleaned my desk off to make room for it.
So, final piece came today for my Specialized P2 DJ build. Been nice out all week, so I actually went for a rip around town on it. There's no comparison to my old frame...this one rides so much nicer. Much stiffer ride and a more overall "alive" feel to it.
Stoked that I was finally able to ride it after staring at it for 2 months in my room.

So I went out on my bike on Monday, since it was nice out and I wanted to get to McDonald's and see what pony toys they had this week...Getting home, I set it behind our house....which I then forgot about it...as I tend to sometimes. Had a snow Storm and found it like this..Half buried.
It's a 2012 Specialized P.2 Chro-Mo DJ frame. It replaced another frame I was using as a hardtail bike, which is 12 years old now.... Didn't take long to build up...pics below are just mockup, as I've got some small things to do to it...I transferred the wheels, handlebars and fork over from my old frame..
Got this as it was local and in my budget of $250. Won't get any real riding time on it until spring...so, meantime I can sit and admire how pretty it is. Love the colour of it too.
May or may not repaint the fok, as it's not quite a matching colour...

So yea, my Fluttershy controller I had, I changed it up a bit. It's now my dedicated PC controller, as the Mic port in it is a bit buggered...so, my Xbox gets the new controller. My new controller actually came with a wireless dongle so I could use wireless controllers on PC. So, I now have a wireless controller on PC, which is nice.
The original Fluttershy controller, being here Gamershy-Custom-Xbox-Controller.
This one rendition is a bit more low key in terms of colours. I used the original black shell so the actual pink and yellow aren't flushed out. I alternated Pink and yellow on the various buttons and triggers. Wish I could change the LED colour...but that requires tedious soldering.
Anywho, enjoy.
(Yes, that is my "Cloud drive" in the background. )
So, soon after learning one of my brakes on my mountain bike was a death trap....I ordered up some new ones. My old one, the lever on the handle bar was loose and the holes that the bolts thread into were stripped out..and because of the thin wall of the brake lever housing for said hole was so thin, it was impossible to re thread the hole without breaking the lever. I found it was broken while I was washing and cleaning it up....Any more riding use and the lever would've snapped off and probably causing me to crash.
I ordered the brakes from the UK on Friday and they arrived today at my doorstep (Canada). This is the first time I"ve ever had new brakes...as I've always bought 2nd hand brakes as they were cheaper....but the ones I wanted just happen to be on sale for almost 50% off. I bought SRAM Guide RS brakes. They are replacing my aging Avid Juicy 5s. Same company owns both brands, Avid is just a recently discontinued brand and they've simply stuck with the one brand SRAM, who also own a suspension company called Rock Shox. My new brakes also have 4 pistons per caliper vs 2 in my old brakes. Having 4 pistons vs 2 increases braking power more evenly and gives a bit more power over all.
Installation!
Seeming they were brand new brakes...I had to shorten the brake hose on the rear, as it was about afoot too long for my needs. I had never done this before..so it was a first for me. I've always been paranoid about working on my own brakes...but it all worked out in the end. It wasn't as daunting of a task I was making it out to be...it was rather simple. I didn't even need to bleed my brake afterwards. Which was a nice bonus. Gloves were mandatory for this, as there's DOT 5 brake fluid inside the lines...nasty stuff.
(Yes, my purple vinyl gloves are fabulous...aren't they?)
Got everything situated properly..and so I tightened everything down.
and tadaa! ready to ride!
Oh yea...each brake came with a brake block for the pads.(it's so if the lever is squeezed, the pistons don't close, and leak brake fluid everywhere, if there's no brake rotor in it.) and on the other end..is a bottle opener..ingenious!
The ending result of an evening bike ride with a couple friends...One friend went over the bars and landed face first into a mud puddle. it was gloriously executed...wish I caught in on camera. It was like seeing something out of a cartoon. We we're going about 55Mph down a grassy hill too, with it stopping in a gigantic mud puddle (as seen in the background of pics)
Bike started clean. (that's a different hill in the background, not the one we went down, ending in a mud puddle/swamp)
Said friend that ate it...note the mud on his entire right side and the mud bog/puddle/swamp behind him...
Then ended up like this...
After I got it home.... I got a lot of cleaning to do tomorrow....
Overall a fun and amazing ride. With fast downhill bits and technical terrain, along with some jumps and berms.
So, I was cleaning up the garage a bit today, and a bag of rags (cut up t-shirts) burst open...and I found one that was rather intriguing. I pulled it from the pile and behold, it was an old Goosebumps T-shirt. Brought back some memories of the TV show and books when I was a kid.
So then, I got the idea of re-upholstering an old saddle, I had for my bike. The current fabric/leather on it has been torn off and it's just kinda rubbish and a bit ghastly. So, I'm gonna finish taking it off and then clean up the foam padding under neath and then reupholster the saddle with the graphic on the T-shirt. I've seen it done before, and I always wanted to try it out.
here's the saddle I"ll be using..I'll post an update when/If I have it finished. I wasn't using this saddle, it was one of many extras I had in one of my multiple parts bins.
Aaand this is why I've picked this saddle. the foam is in perfect shape as well.
Last upgrade came in, new tires..I've also got a name for her. "My Little Pona" Pona being a cross between the brand name "Kona" and "Pony"
The fork internals also blew up on me the other day, so just days after painting it, I now need a new fork...It looks fine, but it doesn't ride so well.
Bit more progress was made today, I managed to clear coat the frame and hang it up to cure for the next day or so.
I also stripped the stickers off my fork and then taped off areas not to be painted, then primed them with grey primer, along with the pedals and seat collar.
I went with a Lilac purple fo the colour coat....It's a really light colour, so it's taken quite a few coats to get adequate coverage.
We're finally getting decent enough weather, I can finally do this.
Starting my DJ project. Firstly stripping all the 11 year old paint off. The chemical paint stripper I picked is called "Circa 1850" It's been my go to stripper for a few years. It's very effective it started bubbling the paint off within seconds of applying it. And Yes, I wore gloves.
Almost 3 hours later, this was the result...I'll be finishing it up tomorrow. I'm going to be leaving it as the raw aluminum and putting a protective clear coat over top of it.
This is just the beginning, I've got lots more to come.
I also want to name her, although I"m not sure what. You guys have any suggestions?
Took more time today to finish up the stripping process...99% done. I was gonna paint the rims Lilac purple, but my dad convinced me not to, because it wouldn't last...so I'm gonna paint the fork instead I think.
Here's a couple Mock Up pics I took...the bare aluminum was super shiny.
My mum made a fancy cake for Easter dessert. Garnished with Flake chocolate bar, Cadbury Mini eggs and melted chocolate. Icing is made of icing sugar, whipped cream and a pound of butter. It's got a jello +vanilla cake as a base. The cake itself is my moms own recipe. She makes the jello in a bowl, and "Pours it over the vanilla cake base and the jello seeps into the air pockets of the cake and she then lets it settle and become jello.
Our Target location is closing next Wednesday. Everything is 50-70% off, store wide....though it seems 80% of the shelves are empty and so they've moved everything to around the cash registers.I was up there today and got a deluxe Fluttershy vinyl and a Celestia Micro Comic for all of $7.
It kinda sucks that it's closing, since we nowhave nowhere to shop for stuff. Closest Wal-mart is next town over, which is a 45min drive away.
So, the other day I was gonna game with a few friends and discovered my mic wasn't working.....so Instead of ditching said headset, I decided to fix it, or at least take a try at fixing it. To my surprise, I fixed it. I took a stand alone mic I had lying around and used it to replace the original mic and mic boom. Coincidentally, the boom on both used the same kind of flexible boom.
This was the headset I had originally, same mic.(Aside from the lack of an inline mute button and bad mic, it's got fantastic sound and build quality)
This was the Mic I used to replace the original.Which IIRC, I bought off eBay awhile ago for something else.
And after an hour or so of finicky wire stripping, soldering, shrink tubing and other tinkering....this was the end result. I'm rather quite pleased at how factory it looks. I ended up cutting off the 3.5mm plug on the new mic, and unraveling some of the boom and cutting off part of hte metal. the original mic, I pulled off the little round bit that connected to the headset, and reused it.
So, with the recent event of Leonard Nimoy passing....I thought I'd do a tribute to him, by Spockifying a Canadian $5 bill. With the new polymer notes out, it's hard to come across the old cotton notes, but I was lucky enough to stumble upon one the other day after selling some bike parts to a local person.
This is also totally legal to do, according to the Bank of Canada
Yes. My new wheels finally arrived today in the mail.
Pretty stoked. I just need to get some new tubes at my Bike Shop and install new brake pads. Aaaand wait for the snow to melt.
What I love about these hubs, is they're the best bang for the buck. $300 for both hubs, and they can be converted into any axle standard....since in the MTB world, there's like 12 different axle sizes. These hubs are basically future proof. I'll never have to buy another hub again. The rims, are also a bit wider and lighter than my previous rims.
This also means, my other bike gets my old wheelset. so it'll have nicer wheels too.
For any bike geeks, here's the specs:
~Hope Pro 2 hubs front and rear
~Front: 20mm axle
~Rear: 135x10 Bolt up
~WTB i25 rims
~DT Swiss Champion spokes
~SRAM 180mm Centerline rotors
~SRAM PG1050 Cassette
~Maxxis High Roller tires.
Being a general outdoors/take a nap in the forest kind of person, I've been feeling the effects of Cabin Fever a lot this winter, not to mention I tend to be a bit more depressed during the winter months, due to the Cabin Fever.
I've grown bored of a lot of things as of late. from Video games to just browsing the Internets. I find myself feeling just blah most the day, sad and not knowing what to do or not feeling like doing anything. Hell, I don't even sign into Skype that often lately, or talk to anyone on it. I sometimes even have a hard time getting out of bed, because frankly I can't even think of a reason to get up..
We're also having abnormally below average temperatures lately, this time of year, we should be seeing -5 Celsius, but lately and even into March, we're expecting to see -17 Celsius temps during the day, So we're not gonna have an early Spring by any means. I'm sick and tired off the cold, snow and Ice.
So, I live in a small town in Central Ontario, Canada, of around 20,000 people. We do NOT have a Wal-Mart. The closest Wal-Mart to us is a good 45min to an hours drive away, in the next town over. What we DO have (or rather DID have) is a Target.
But guess what. Corporates at Target are closing down all of their Target locations, all across Canada. Not only does this put over 17,000 out of a job, but it leaves some towns (like ours) with no place to shop for necessities. They're liquidating all of their stock. What irks me is that in my town, Target was the only big name store to shop at. We had a Canadian owned retailer in there before called "Zellers" which was bought out by the Target corporation of the US, so they could expand their stores into Canada. So Target is screwing small towns like us over for shopping.
So, as is, we have no place to shop for stuff like clothing or other household goods. We have another Canadian store in town called "Giant Tiger" but it's no where near the stature of a Wal-mart or Target...it's not even a K'Mart type store..It gets overstock/unsold clothing and other stuff from other stores and sells it at a discount, includes all their stuff minus the food, which they get from a regular supplier.
So, yea. thanks Obama, and thank you Target for screwing over small towns everywhere.
So,yea. I was TOTALLY excited for the new "The Dark Below" DLC content coming out this December. New missions new strikes and a new raid as well as new Crucible maps. NOPE.Apparently as an Xbox player, we're only getting some of it.The rest? We're getting Fall of 2015. Since Sony paid Bungie a large amount of money to have it as an "Exclusive". The content in question? One of the new strike missions, in the new DLC, which are a huge thing in Destiny.
I'm sorry, but I paid FULL price for all ove this DLC, and we should get it when it's released, not a whole fucking year later. Like, what the fuck?I paid full price, I should get everything that PS players get.Yea, Sony players already have an "Exclusive" Dust palace strike on Mars....where's the love for us Xbox owners who paid the EXACT same amount of cash for the "EXACT" same game? We're getting less stuff, for the same price. That's not fair, at all.
Y'know,I might've not minded the content being released a week apart on each console, but a whole year?!!? Screw that noise.
Sure, it's only 1 strike mission, but it's the principle of the thing.
Fuck you Sony and Bungie....Fuck. You.
P.S. Any comments regarding PC Master Race or console wars will be deleted.
It's my bike I've built of spare parts...that I use for whatever, around town, going to the store, and even use it for my winter bike. She just got a pile of new parts as donations from my good bike.Which includes the entire drivetrain, bashguard...shifter, chain etc.
She might be ugly, but I still love her.
Come next year, I plan on painting her. Yellow most likely.
I finished installing my new upgrades recently. Which included the entire drivetrain.I've also removed a bunch of unnecessary bits, like the bash guard and chain device.
I put her on the scale, she weighs in at 30.19lbs. I'm happy with that weight, though I know I can get it even lighter with some new wheels, but those cost a lot. Carbon Fiber is another upgrade option for some parts, but again...carbon components are expensive.Ultimately I'd like to trim her down to below 30lbs.
Upgrades include:
~SRAM X9 Type 2 Clutch RD(Rear Derailleur)
~SRAM X7 Shifter Pod
~Race Face Narrow Wide chainring (black)
~SRAM PG1050 cassette
~KMC X93 chain
New parts are so shiny. I hope to keep them that way, though I doubt it.
Good thing too, upon removing my old parts, I found a busted jockey wheel on my RD (It's missing teeth)
Few days ago,I bought a new fork for my mountain bike. A Rock Shox Revelation. I'm sure Maud Pie would approve of it.
Today, I managed to install it and weigh my bike. It's a whole 2lbs lighter. New weight is now 31.38Lbs.It's such a huge improvement over my last fork. This one is also air sprung. Meaning, I can adjust the air pressure inside it to make it softer or harder, as well as how it responds to what I'm riding over. Which all calculates to riding like I'm on a cloud.
Nearing the end of riding season, so I got a good deal on it. I'm hoping I can bike until at least the end of September. I've also got other upgrade plans for it over fall and winter. I'm hoping to get the bike to under 30lbs.
I've told this to a few members on here, but not many.
At the beginning of the month(August 11th), I started working for a factory, through a staffing agency. This staffing agency supplies the factory with temporary workers when they need them. So far it's inconsistent as hell.
Upon entering this new job, we were told, by the staffing agency, that we were required to purchase special rubber boots, since we were going to be working in a cheese factory. The cost would be coming out of our paycheck....How much? They never told us. They just said another employment agency was paying for "most" of the cost. I looked up the cost of the boots on the internet...they were $140. Though, apparently, the cheese factory got a discount on them, since they buy them in bulk pretty much. Payday comes, and the full price of the boots had been taken out of some peoples paychecks, which was $113, including taxes. For the amount of time some had worked there, they might've as well not worked, since they worked jsut enough to pay for the boots. We were THEN told, after we were deducted $113 from our pay, that we would be LATER reimbursed for "most" of the amount when the 3rd party Employment agency (Not the staffing agency) got the money for the boots. Sorry, but THEY should've had OUR reimbursement in time for our paychecks. A lot of us NEED that money.
On top of the stupid boot crap, Of the three weeks I've now worked there, I haven't seen a single DIME.Apparently both the staffing agency AND factory fucked up the sign in and out thing. At the factory, we use a hand scanner to sign in and out fork work. Apparently it "malfunctioned" SO I had to calculate ALL my previously worked hours on a paper time sheet, and hand them in AGAIN. It was total BS. I finally handed in TWO weeks worth of Time sheets last Wednesday...Figuring what I was gonna get owed, paid out This past Friday, since we get paid every week, NOPE. They said that will be on NEXT Friday's paycheck....Well, what if I depended on that money? you guys just fucked me over. A bunch of the other temp workers never got paid either. My first Pay stub from that place(15th) reads "ZERO" dollars but 7 hours worked, Yet, that first week I worked almost 24 hours. For that 7 hours of work, I got $81 Which got deducted for some reason. Yet...for some reason, I still ended up with $50 in my bank account from unknown origins..it just says "PAYROLL Canada" on my statement. Other random people got a similar sum of $50. Which doesn't add up at all to my pay stubs. I'm also MISSING a paystub from the previous week(22nd), the week I should've been paid for this past Friday.Yet, somehow I got Friday the 15th's paystub? Even though I handed in BOTH time sheets for the week of the 15th and 22nd on Wednesday this past week? Something isn't adding up....
Something is seriously fucked up. I just hope I get paid this Friday.or I'm gone. And I'm taking my over priced boots with me.
That's not all, oh nononono....This Cheese Factory NEVER has their stuff organized, I get called in by the staffing company last minute to go in ASAP, like they want me to drop everything and go. If I give them an excuse as to why I can't go they ask what I"m doing...Well, that's none of your damned business....The Cheese factory needs to better organize their stuff. as does the Staffing agency. I don't particularly like being called at 9am in the morning to go in ASAP...not when I wasn't expecting to work that day,and I already have plans.Last Tuesday,me and a couple buddies were jsut about to head out to go mountain biking for the day, and then the staffing agency calls, wanting me to go in right away.I told them I'm already busy today and I had plans. They then said "Well you should've told us beforehand" Well, sorry but YOU should've phoned me last night if you wanted me to go in...not at 9am this morning.
I did a previous job through the staffing agency, at a music festival. It was at the end of July/beginning of August. I did a 13hr shift of standing in the blazing sun, I got home with a severe sunburn. They phoned me to go in next day, told them I couldn't because I had a severe sun burn. (I could barely move)and They said "Well, have you put cream or anything on it? No, I haven't. And not like it's gonna help against another 13hr day of blazing sun...and I don't particularly feel like getting sun stroke or melanoma. They then called me up the next day after, I gave them the same excuse....they still wanted me to go in, but I didn't. A Sun burn doesn't magically disappear overnight.
This place has been stressing me out since day 1.Both the staffing agency and the factory.
I'm about to say fuckyou to these guys.
Oh, I failed to mention...one of the reps? at the staffing agency? You know what kinda car they drive? A fucking 2011 Cadillac LTS...It's the same bitch that calls me at 9am or asks why I can't go in when they call early morning.
Temp work....it SUCKS. Especially with this staffing agency.
