So basically I'm attempting to learn how to draw ponies, and I decided to start learning to draw anatomy correctly before I even beginning to find my own "style" or whatnot. I started with the head, but that didn't go so well, because I suck at proportions and I cant play eyes correctly to save my life. Now I've started to draw legs, starting with the forelegs. I've looked up references and how to draw tutorials and everything, but I'm still having trouble on drawing the legs correctly. I draw out the joints and such, and I think I've generally got that down. But when it comes time to draw flesh around the lines I've made, I get stuck, and I cant really get how to do it correctly. Its hard to describe, so I've posted a picture of what I'm basically doing. I don't have a tablet so I just re created it on MS Paint. A bit fatter than I actually drew it, but that's about what I'm doing. Anyways, my question is, What is the best way to improve on what I'm doing and make it more aesthetically pleasing, i.e, less fat, and more slender like in the show?
I'm sorry if this doesn't make a lot of sense, but I've described my problem the best way that I can.
Thanks!
