and , the search feature is currently down, which would explain why the functions you are attempting to view/use are not working. I have notified the Tech Admin team of the issue and will update you periodically on progress here. Thank you.

Search feature and associated functions are running again
  2. Jeric's post in Strange adverts was marked as the answer
I'm going to repost the Admin instructions for hunting down the source tracking for adverts which assists staff in removing them.

Without the tracking URL, there is not much we can do. This is one item that we actually need assistance for the people who notice this. If you see this again, please follow the advice here.

I will go ahead and close this for now as we are lacking specific information in which to act, however I will work on a pinned notice with directions that we can readily communicate to all.
  3. Jeric's post in Status updates? was marked as the answer
They should be showing pink/red as  and @Dewdlz has said.

Originally, we the code was set that a delete actually 'soft deleted' or hid the status update. There was a recent update to IPB that modified the code and it took a few weeks to patch it back to normal. This is how it should work:

You hit delete > it hides the status update from other members but shows visible to you and staff.
  4. Jeric's post in Special member groups was marked as the answer
Not much of a secret <3

On the surface having a sub group dedicated to specific character fans would be a nice little addition if there was some form of a consistent visual cue to it. There are only two issues that would have prevented this from being implemented in the past

Visual segregation. A point could be made that separate user groups based around the characters would promote a more 'cliquish' environment. That remains to be seen, but a similar suggestion on a Star Wars forum I managed died because of this fear. This happens naturally in many ways, but this fear may kill the concept as well.  IPB. This holiday season we created a separate member group for Christmas Donors. It was a nightmare causing many issues with regular permission sets and access rights. Add groups for about 40+ characters and ... well ... Sweet Celestia Please No. IPS has never created a really robust and scalable UG system  Personally, If these issues were resolvable - I like it - but would rather automate it rather than having a member be group leader.
  5. Jeric's post in The FAQ doesn't exist using HTTPS was marked as the answer
    @WriteCodes46,

@Feld0 (Co-Founder and Lead Developer) has stated he will be running a script that will address assets on the site. As far as the loading concerns you have, MLP Forums does not fully support HTTPS. Using HTTPS Everywhere (for example) will cause several pages to not fully load (FAQ, Character Database, etc).

That said, this is an item that we have committed to review in the past and will continue to do so. I wish we could give you a time line regarding implementation, unfortunately an accurate time line on HTTPS/HSTS support would be extremely difficult to advise since you would have a evaluation phase that has to be completed first. When we do have support, we will likely make an announcement in some form or fashion.

Thank you for your question, and I apologize for not being able to give you the answer you wanted to hear.

I'll close out the question at this time.
  6. Jeric's post in Weapons and Outbreaks was marked as the answer
The rules state that a little blood is fine. Weapons in and of themselves are perfectly fine too. But the devil is always in the details. I am aware of several instruments of war that probably are not suitable for posting here. If you have anything that you feel is on the edge of being acceptable, please contact a Moderator. Sending it in via the Support Ticket system or a PM is acceptable.
  7. Jeric's post in Stylized content issue was marked as the answer
This issue should be resolved. If it resurfaces, file a support ticket so I can get to over to the Tech Admin.
  8. Jeric's post in New member posts was marked as the answer
    @StarDustPony

You can read the Posting FAQ by clicking here. However it looks from the kind words you left about Rarity that you seem to be getting the hang of the board and how to post. I'll leave this open in case you have any specific questions. :grin2:

    Don't hesitate to ask away.
  9. Jeric's post in Email notifications not working was marked as the answer
Yes, the email server was down temporarily and is back up. I apologize it took this long to get answer your question.
  10. Jeric's post in Notifications was marked as the answer
This has been resolved. They do go down intermittently - have for some time. Most times the staff will notice and alert the Tech Admins to reset the server, but when they do go down - please post a new thread.
  11. Jeric's post in is there an area where i can place guild recruiting and such was marked as the answer
Yes, you can post something along those lines here in Everfree > Media. Make sure that you use the Gaming tag.

    Closing out this question
  12. Jeric's post in Topics I can't see? was marked as the answer
As you may have noticed all search related features should be working at this time. Topics that I participated in  uses the search system to return results. This is not a permanent issue.
  13. Jeric's post in Is there a way to see what status updates you've replied to? was marked as the answer
Only through notifications. However you would only have a non descriptive list to few.

Beyond that this is not an available feature of the site, however I will track this as a requested enhancement that the development team may review for future enhancements. As with any feature requests, we cannot give an ETA, nor guarantee that the request would be fulfilled.
  14. Jeric's post in Approved topics was marked as the answer
It is a glitch. If a member posts in a topic you made, and that member's posts require approval to be visible to the board, you will get a notice as well.

    What is the moderation queue?
  15. Jeric's post in How do i turn links in to text? was marked as the answer
the above thoroughly addressed your question as confirmed by you.

    Closing this out.
  16. Jeric's post in Threads not appearing. was marked as the answer
Oddly enough I was about to pick it up.

At any rate, the internal search engine itself will never be consistent, but run a better idea is to run this through Google

    cursive site:mlpforums.com

Your topic is already part of the search results ... and so is the one I saw.
  17. Jeric's post in Members' content/Search option are down was marked as the answer
Yep yep, I notified the tech group. In the interim as a workaround go ahead and use 'item you want' site:mlpforums.com in Google.

This should be up and running again.

@Blobulle let me know if you find anything out of the ordinary with search and it's related applications like My Content and Content I Follow.
  18. Jeric's post in Antivirus disapproves of Beyond Equestria was marked as the answer
I can actually utter these words ...

    Princess Celestia fixed this.

Seriously though, Lavo and the Dev team have resolved the issue. As with all alerts like these we take them seriously. Open a thread here or a support ticket if you receive an alert from your security program or utility of choice. Closing this out
  19. Jeric's post in Site down? was marked as the answer
Yes, we were currently performing site mainenance so the site was down in the interim. Please pardon the dust.

Also, we are aware that at some point in the near future we will likely need to serve a page that properly indicates if site maintenance is currently going on.
  20. Jeric's post in Is it possible to delete this account? was marked as the answer
We do not delete or remove user accounts from the site.

    From this FAQ Entry

Do members have the ability to delete their own posts and threads?
No. Members cannot delete their own posts or topics, nor can they delete blogs or blog entries that they've made. The only content that users are able to delete on their own are status updates and status update comments.

These limitations are in place for several reasons... first and foremost, it is our experience that people most often seek to have threads removed when the reception to the thread is not what they would like to see. A good example of this is a person creating a thread to debate a particular topic of interest, only to realize that the opinion that he or she is arguing for is unpopular and difficult to defend.

Another common thing we've ran into is for people to seek to remove all of their content when deciding that they'd like to 'leave the site' for good. This is problematic for a couple reasons - first, it can carve massive chunks out of discussion threads, leaving behind a tremendous amount of collateral damage. Who wants to read a thread in which a great deal of the original content has been stripped out? Secondly, what happens if - like many others - their decision to make a hasty retreat from the forum was done on a whim and they end up returning?

If a user desires the removal of one of his or her posts and/or threads, they are encouraged to use the large red reportbutton that is located beneath every post on the forum, or to PM a moderator, with reasoning as to why they want their topic or post removed, locked, etc. As long as there is a credible reason for the request the staff will often honor them, though threads that have spawned good discussions, and/or posts that are central to the discussion taking place within a thread are unlikely to be removed. The decision of whether or not to remove a given thread and/or post is up to the discretion of the moderator that handles the report.

Please note, however, that the bar for removing threads and/or posts that you've made in the life advice sub board is significantly lower given the distinctly personal nature of the area.
  21. Jeric's post in Pinned topics was marked as the answer
The information in some topics contains information that is either popular, or critical.

    Usually, but not always.

Yes, or important to new users.

Depends on the section, yes. Q&A has resources that are set up to explain how to search the knowledge base and use the reporting system. Canterlot has  quite a bit right now as we are still running a fundraiser. FiM has the most popular topics pinned.

I personally use the IPB Mobile version for 50% of my visits here, and I honestly consider this one of the least obtrusive things in the UX.

We can look at Creative Resources and make a determination on use and need.

No, that is a common UX fallacy. You need to provide the intended user will the likely resources at an easy access point. 'Moving up' assumes that they are meant to be posted in. Not all pinned topics are ... they are only meant to be read.

Either way we can review. I know I have consolidated items in the MLPF Section. However, if new user click rate on these topics is high enough, they will stay pinned.
  22. Jeric's post in Would the forums support the next generations? was marked as the answer
, I actually moved this to Feedback as it is going to invite discussion between Forum Members and Staff regarding the future of our site in respect to post FiM Pony. A few things to consider:

While the site is heavily centered around Friendship is Magic, it does allow and encourage discussion on all generations of MLP already. That would conceivably include future generations as well. What form MLP Forums takes in the future is likely going to be community driven. To give you some context, if G5 turns out to be extremely popular, I would reasonably expect that the site would take a similar approach as some Star Wars forums I have been a part of.  In those sites, there is a healthy mix of fans that prefer the Original Trilogy  to the Prequels and visa versa. Look at forums that take a biog picture approach to the fandom (Trek, Pokemon, Power Rangers, etc).

MLP Forums should always strive be relevant to fans of all generations.
  23. Jeric's post in My first posts disappeared. was marked as the answer
@Imperator Knoedel, I figured out what happened and was able to restore the posts. I'll PM you with specifics, but it was a combination of both a misunderstanding and a slight procedural delay. For that I apologize.
  24. Jeric's post in Inconsistencies with Visible Content was marked as the answer
Just chatted with Feld0 who resolved it within minutes and I just confirmed that new posts are new reflecting on my content. @Dsanders, let me know if that fixed it for you here or in the Support Ticket.
  25. Jeric's post in Can somepony delete my account and all my posts was marked as the answer
I'm sorry to hear that you won't be returning. Unfortunately, we do not typically remove member posts as it impacts the readability of topic threads. If there is a specific post that you find you want removed I would be happy to review it, but we won't simply remove a member from existence on the site. We don't even do this with banned members.
