  1. Jeric's post in Site down? was marked as the answer
Yes, we were currently performing site mainenance so the site was down in the interim. Please pardon the dust.

Also, we are aware that at some point in the near future we will likely need to serve a page that properly indicates if site maintenance is currently going on.
  2. Jeric's post in My Content broke? It used to have threads in it was marked as the answer
My Content is related to the Search Function which also appears to be down. Please open a technical support ticket here. In the interim I will notify our Technical Admin about the outage.

    This is now resolved.
  3. Jeric's post in Is it possible to delete this account? was marked as the answer
We do not delete or remove user accounts from the site.

    From this FAQ Entry

Do members have the ability to delete their own posts and threads?
No. Members cannot delete their own posts or topics, nor can they delete blogs or blog entries that they've made. The only content that users are able to delete on their own are status updates and status update comments.

These limitations are in place for several reasons... first and foremost, it is our experience that people most often seek to have threads removed when the reception to the thread is not what they would like to see. A good example of this is a person creating a thread to debate a particular topic of interest, only to realize that the opinion that he or she is arguing for is unpopular and difficult to defend.

Another common thing we've ran into is for people to seek to remove all of their content when deciding that they'd like to 'leave the site' for good. This is problematic for a couple reasons - first, it can carve massive chunks out of discussion threads, leaving behind a tremendous amount of collateral damage. Who wants to read a thread in which a great deal of the original content has been stripped out? Secondly, what happens if - like many others - their decision to make a hasty retreat from the forum was done on a whim and they end up returning?

If a user desires the removal of one of his or her posts and/or threads, they are encouraged to use the large red reportbutton that is located beneath every post on the forum, or to PM a moderator, with reasoning as to why they want their topic or post removed, locked, etc. As long as there is a credible reason for the request the staff will often honor them, though threads that have spawned good discussions, and/or posts that are central to the discussion taking place within a thread are unlikely to be removed. The decision of whether or not to remove a given thread and/or post is up to the discretion of the moderator that handles the report.

Please note, however, that the bar for removing threads and/or posts that you've made in the life advice sub board is significantly lower given the distinctly personal nature of the area.
  4. Jeric's post in Pinned topics was marked as the answer
The information in some topics contains information that is either popular, or critical.

    Usually, but not always.

Yes, or important to new users.

Depends on the section, yes. Q&A has resources that are set up to explain how to search the knowledge base and use the reporting system. Canterlot has  quite a bit right now as we are still running a fundraiser. FiM has the most popular topics pinned.

I personally use the IPB Mobile version for 50% of my visits here, and I honestly consider this one of the least obtrusive things in the UX.

We can look at Creative Resources and make a determination on use and need.

No, that is a common UX fallacy. You need to provide the intended user will the likely resources at an easy access point. 'Moving up' assumes that they are meant to be posted in. Not all pinned topics are ... they are only meant to be read.

Either way we can review. I know I have consolidated items in the MLPF Section. However, if new user click rate on these topics is high enough, they will stay pinned.
  5. Jeric's post in Would the forums support the next generations? was marked as the answer
, I actually moved this to Feedback as it is going to invite discussion between Forum Members and Staff regarding the future of our site in respect to post FiM Pony. A few things to consider:

While the site is heavily centered around Friendship is Magic, it does allow and encourage discussion on all generations of MLP already. That would conceivably include future generations as well. What form MLP Forums takes in the future is likely going to be community driven. To give you some context, if G5 turns out to be extremely popular, I would reasonably expect that the site would take a similar approach as some Star Wars forums I have been a part of.  In those sites, there is a healthy mix of fans that prefer the Original Trilogy  to the Prequels and visa versa. Look at forums that take a biog picture approach to the fandom (Trek, Pokemon, Power Rangers, etc).

MLP Forums should always strive be relevant to fans of all generations.
  6. Jeric's post in My first posts disappeared. was marked as the answer
@Imperator Knoedel, I figured out what happened and was able to restore the posts. I'll PM you with specifics, but it was a combination of both a misunderstanding and a slight procedural delay. For that I apologize.
  7. Jeric's post in Inconsistencies with Visible Content was marked as the answer
Just chatted with Feld0 who resolved it within minutes and I just confirmed that new posts are new reflecting on my content. @Dsanders, let me know if that fixed it for you here or in the Support Ticket.
  8. Jeric's post in Can somepony delete my account and all my posts was marked as the answer
I'm sorry to hear that you won't be returning. Unfortunately, we do not typically remove member posts as it impacts the readability of topic threads. If there is a specific post that you find you want removed I would be happy to review it, but we won't simply remove a member from existence on the site. We don't even do this with banned members.
  9. Jeric's post in Disable Personal Status Updates? was marked as the answer
While that function exists, a member won't be able to self restrict Status Update permissions. However, if the need arises, simply PM a Moderator and we can do this for you as a courtesy.

  10. Jeric's post in My security program is blocking MLP forums as a threat to my Computer. was marked as the answer
Ok, Lavo was able to locate and address the issues with HTML:Script-inf. messages related to Avast and a dispute has been filed with Norton which led MLP Forums being cleared. This is resolved at this time. Thanks everyone!
  11. Jeric's post in Site is rejecting my signiture image was marked as the answer
I understand the purpose of server scripting used in images, I use them at work.

I know that this isn't the answer you want to hear, but we do not allow them on MLP Forums. If doesn't matter if it is .php, angular, etc.
  12. Jeric's post in Is MLP Forums a private forum? was marked as the answer
I can approach your question several ways. Here are the most common when 'private' comes into play

Ownership - MLP Forums is a privately owned and operated domain, yes.
Data security - We do not share your personal identifiable data to 3rd parties.
Browsing - Your posts and profile are (depending on where you post) are completely public.
  13. Jeric's post in Can i apply for mod? was marked as the answer
Anyone can apply to be a Moderator here. This thread has a wealth of information regarding what is looked for in being a moderator. Warning point history is just one factor in reviewing candidates.
  14. Jeric's post in Banner Submission Question was marked as the answer
At present we're running a banner contest which you can read about here.  Currently banners are chosen based on either member or staff selection and adherence to the theme. An OC banner is not in line with the theme for the the month, but you are more than welcome to submit a banner under the current theme.

    Thanks for the question.
  15. Jeric's post in Signature sooo small was marked as the answer
You can also read this found in the FAQ

And this this section that answer more specific questions regarding donations and subscription perks.

There are no perks for opting into ads outside of assisting in reducing MLP Forums significant overhead costs.

I posted four links ... that answer your other question
  16. Jeric's post in Is there anyway for me to get my conversations that have disappeared back? was marked as the answer
@madjack2001, as we investigated and provided you an answer via the support ticket system, I am closing this out.

    Thank you.
  17. Jeric's post in Can't read the rules upon signing up :P was marked as the answer
This was resolved last week. Terms of Service link is working again. Closing this out
  18. Jeric's post in Can i necro pony posts was marked as the answer
If you have something substantial or productive to contribute to an older topic, you can post in it 'bumping it' with the exception or RP and the Welcome forum.

There may be occasional time where a current rule will apply on the thread, but this isn't common.

I'm on mobile so I'll link it later, but there IS a mention of this in the FAQ.
Also it is worst mentioning that if it is this forum, neither myself or Ashley will approve the post unless it is actually helpful to the OP.

As your question was answered. I'm locking this thread
  19. Jeric's post in How to block members? was marked as the answer
    Yes,

How to block/ignore as sending party:

You will see a red bold link that says block here.

However to fully ignore members do this:

    STEP 1 a

or Step 1 b from your Profile Settings Page

    Step 2 - Ignore Preferences

    Step 3 - Ignoring Messages

    Hit Submit

In respect to reporting - Reports are confidential. In general we do not share the results of a reported item directly with the person who reported it. Unless it is simply moving thread A to forum B, very few decisions are made in a vacuum. The staff work together as a team for the good of all members. That includes making decisions on reporting.

  21. Jeric's post in Word count issue. Can't post in MeetUp section was marked as the answer
Hey Kel, that definitely looks like a settings issue. I'll see if I can hunt down an Admin or HAL to take a look at it.

    Paging Mr. .

You should be able to post in the Meet Up forum and assemble your Texas Branch of Sunbutt worshipers now see if anyone is in your area. SCS has paved the way for you.

    It should work now.
  22. Jeric's post in How do I copy and paste photos? was marked as the answer
We have a helpful tutorial right here that will show you how to copy an image link into the post editor

Only links will work though. Don't Copy Image ... Copy Image URL.
  23. Jeric's post in How do you find your OCs in the character Archives? was marked as the answer
    http://mlpforums.com/topic/107805-how-to-find-characters-for-rp/#entry2991774

Check out that post. Luigi and the RP Moderator go into detail on two of the best ways to locate your OC's.
  24. Jeric's post in Reply box missing was marked as the answer
As I have already addressed, you do not have access to specific status update functions as you are under moderation. Replies to status updates do not work the same way as replies in topic where a moderator will review and approve the post. There is no ‘approval’ queue for someone else’s status updates. If you dispute this action you may file a Moderation Dispute via the Support Ticket system.

You can't reply to Status Updates until you are off Moderation.
  25. Jeric's post in Unable to post status update and reply to status update was marked as the answer
This is not a glitch. This is a function of the moderation queue itself. Every item that you post is reviewed and approved by the Moderation team. As this is a Normal Operating Characteristic of this function I will close this thread.

Please read this top in the FAQ. Moderation Queue
