  1. Yay you guys at the best! I told him that this idea would promote more donations. See dad?

Now let's get down to business. The plan is to first nominate characters you want my dad to dress as. He gets to veto one and so do I. We'll keep this going until we have about ten or so valid picks, maybe more. Then we vote. The winning character will be what my dad wears to BronyCon, and does a complete vlog/blog series about completing it. I haven't decided if you guys will vote for the specific outfit or not. That will probably depend on the character. If I am being honest, it will be easier on me if I can create a Equestria Girls version out of the selection. There are some general rules here.

    This is MLP specific.

My dad will at least have to be in cosplay at the con for four hours.

My dad will attempt to stay in-character at the con.

A vlog/blog must be posted every two weeks by my dad. If he misses a submission not due to health or act of Celestia then various challenges will need to be performed. Things like getting someone to take a photo with him, maybe even a costume change at one point. I'm open to suggestions for this one. Limited to three costume changes for the character.

    No infant characters pls thx

    No inanimate characters.

    Pets are okay I suppose.

The cosplay has to be con appropriate.

While I may try and make custom pieces, if I run into  issues, we may wind up commissioning something. I'm thinking a hat or accessory like a staff or such. I'm never sewn a hat so while I can try, I don't want to be bashing my in head wasting fabric and such.

Costuming, accessories, wigs, and makeup (if applicable to the character) will be specific to the canon character. Basically, I'm going all in on this hoping that it doesn't wind up looking like a train wreck.

Ummmm. I think that's it. I can answer questions and such, or my dad can and he'll relay then answer. Also, he is being a great sport about this. I almost feel bad. Almost. ;)

    I'll start.

    Fluttershy!

Dad, do your thing to this post.

You also missed something that I just caught. So what happens if say .... the community votes for a character that does not have a song?  Ponder that while your in Calc today.

    :yeahno:

Of course it would be you to point out a flaw. If your friends here pick a character for the 2250 prize that doesn't have a singing role, the fairest solution is to do a second one. Maybe. It does complicate things, but if we end up doing two characters it really isn't that big of a deal. Let's cross that bridge when we get there.

  3. I'll let my dad add any artwork in here and stuff like that. So, @Jeric is my father. I remember that there was a plan to due a full cosplay event at Babs Con back in 2014 and a few of them got colt feet (pun 100% completely on purpose). A few of them, including my dad, decided to change things so that they would only have to cosplay in the gender-bent versions of their characters. The following year my dad took me and my brother to Babs. We both went in cosplay, and I was EqG Pinkie Pie. My father ended up bailing on his agreement of the plan to cosplay as Pinkie's Dad. So my father is going to BronyCon. I can't go since I'll be prepping for college at the time and need to save my money, but I can surely make my presence felt.

Alright, revenge fueled daughter kidding aside, this is for charity. To entice you all to cross that next threshold, this is what I convinced @Jeric to do (feels weird calling him that). If we hit the $2250 goal, my dad will cosplay as any character we choose. You nominate the characters, staff and I will add some to round out a few, you vote on the picks, and I will design and put it all together for him. To keep this interesting, there will be no gender modification of the cosplay. If you pick Fluttershy then you best be sure he'll be in a sun dress. I'll probably go with the Equestria Girls designs as they are easier to assemble.

Oh, and for those that will not attend BronyCon to witness this, Dad will be posting a regular blog about assembling the cosplay. There is even a hilarious add-on to this if you guys can break $2500, where Dad will have to record a music video in cosplay BEFORE the convention and ALSO will enter the Cosplay Contest that they have every year.

My preference, but don't let me sway you.

Trust me if my kid gets on here ... I'll probably get stuck doing something absurd. ._.

I have some ideas Dad. You are going to BronyCon, right? My favorite part of going to BABSCon with you was cosplaying as Pinkie. I think every self respecting fan should experience the joy of cosplaying as a show accurate character.

Plus I should of mentioned it earlier but because of how Jeric's wife seems like an evil person in the dreams it's most likely a second evil spiritual entity that was inside her but it separated from her when she died and now it's stuck with Jeric. Anyways that's just my theory of what's going on but you never know it might be something completely different to what I'm talking about.

You don't usually use most likely and then stick in a closing line about how that's just a theory. That is some superb incongruity you managed there.

Most likely it is what it is. My mom died, their marriage was like this epic fairy tale, and she was a phenomenal mother and human being. it sucks all around. I dream of her too. I'm not a fan of it because ... it isn't real. She isn't alive. Seeing her, hearing her, it has to be a nightmare for my dad, knowing that it is just a dream and when he wakes up she won't be there ... for as long as he draws breath. That is what a widow or widower deals with. We have found a happy peace with things, but these little things like dreams and what have you, they tend to be ripples in the otherwise calm lake. I would have thought that would be the first thing people would jump to, not murderous wives and evil spirits. That is all kinds of ... I don't know what.

  6. This may help you out. It is a list of all the FAQ's on this forum. Some of it may be wrong or outdated.

    Profile pic dimensions?

I think it is set at 150 x 150, but it is resized depending on where you are on the forum and what device you are using.

    41 minutes ago, Planetaria said:

What file type do you recommend (jpg, png, etc)

This depends on the image. The system seems to take both. One is typically smaller in file size.

How do I get the little saying that some ponies have under their picture in topics? The line of a personal quote right above their forum status (muffin, crystal pony, etc)

I'll use my dad's post to explain.

The red arrow is a member title. This is given to staff, former staff, and those that subscribe or donate to this place.

The green arrow is your group name. Something about member groups. Normal members have one, staff have several, and subscribers have a few. These actually allow specific access or perks that are specific to the group. Mods have superpowers. Admins are OP, and donors/subs/and Retired staff get perks. New members start at Blank Flank permissions and as they post that group name changes to Muffin and then User (this used to be called Member ... strange). Each level adds more access to the place.

That purple arrow that you see is rare. It was once supposed to be the name of the position of staff. In some cases people on staff have specific roles like head of IT, Newsletter, Public Relations. Overtime some also added some funny elements so it became a tradition. Some staffers keep the goofball role name when they retire from staff, like my dad did. :P

Hearing the old man talk about this place for years helped me pick up a few things. Like Magical Kindergarten. :muffins:

And regarding your comments earlier about why I am uneasy about my wife in my dreams, it is because she has become that reality check component. Her appearance in my dreams will always trigger that state of consciousness. From that point I know it isn't real. Of course being very detail oriented means that the visual and aural aspects appear too perfect. When this happens ... I don't have a conversation ... I just wake up. I'm aware that there is a subconscious message I'm ignoring, but I'm pretty sure I know what I'm trying to tell myself.

Dad, this is weird giving you advice, but you know what Mom would say. Maybe you would feel better if you just allow the dream to continue.

You know it isn't her, I know it isn't her, but I think that you have been doing that silly thing that you do ... in trying to be strong for everyone else you are ignoring yourself. You don't have to be you all the time.

To be honest I believe that message is that your wife is actually an evil killer deep inside and she's plotting to eventually murder you. Well that's my theory of what the message of what you're dreams are but still just keep an eye on your wife as she might actually be exactly what I described. :)

I don't believe that we have anything to worry about, all things considered. I'm actually trying to consider what the appropriate response here is.

Even if you eliminate the fact that my father's post was written so that it was framed in the context of losing someone, I am trying to understand why you actually believe what you just stated would be good advice to give to someone. Bizarre, unproven, or faith based ideas are one thing, but when they become the genesis of really really bad advice that can prove harmful. Even if you didn't put two and two together and realize you just called a dead woman a possible murderer, you realize that you just told a stranger that you believe that his wife is out to kill him. Do you not see the danger inherent in this? I do hope these posts stand, so that anyone who comes here sees this exchange and marginalizes the concepts that you are pushing here, because they are dangerous (not to mention unscientific). You have shown me that you give advice that is more akin to a time bomb.

Lucid dreaming is a curious and remarkable phenomenon, and you are effectively postulating a circus from laboratory.

I'm in. I'll be working in tandem with my daughter @Salty Sweetness on a collaborative piece. If the theme is Family, I suspect we will have a lot to say.

Just kidding. This should be fun. I do want to give this heads up any potential readers: it is my solemn promise to you that no old people jokes will be permitted to reach your eyes. To make this a thing, I am writing any humor. My dad won't be allowed within ten feet of his laptop it he has that sneaky grin on his face. Scouts honor.

  10.

At the onset of most fandoms there seems to be a deep desire to share. It is a common thing. It takes less effort to ignore fanaticism than it does to type up a complaint about it.

On 6/22/2017 at 10:34 AM, RareBase said:

The thing is, there's always still reasonable people too.

I agree. In fact I would say that the number of reasonable people far outweigh anyone that takes their love of a fandom to an unhealthy extreme. I don't care what fandom you are in, your crazies are not special. You should see half my family during football season. You should see Hamilton and Heathers fans.

On 6/18/2017 at 5:00 AM, Cwanky said:

Maybe it's fine for some fans, but I'd rather just simply be a fan that can enjoy and appreciate shows and not turn them into a cult following.

If the fanaticism is hurting your experience, you could do what I do and just watch a show/film and limit your interaction with fans. My father always tells me of this long forgotten mystical time before the internet. It was a time when our elders had to do just that.

Oh wow. so happy to see that @SFyr is still doing pony art. we didn't get to interact much in San Fran last year, but I still have the button he made me, and I think he still does art of my parents on occasion.

and since I am posting here again, might as well drop this here. It fits.

Though since I'm telling this story in a forum that one of the kids occasionally lurks in, I suppose now's as good a time as any to tell them.

Mom already spilled the beans on that late last year, as I just mentioned. I think it was a cute thing you two did. You are right about one thing, Gram would have a fit! It's also in a few days! We have to do something, you realize that, right?

So this episode was powerful for all of us at home, especially since I know that losing a parent isn't the easiest thing to go through when you are young. What made this episode feel especially real to me was how well it was focused around remembering them with a sense of pride and wonder. I'm luckier than any of the Apples in that I have my dad, @Jeric to bother for stories he hasn't told me, and one thing about my dad that you may have noticed, he isn't shy about sharing. XD

I can't help but feel a little more connected to the Apple family now that we know, and it is even sadder in a way for Apple Bloom knowing that she probably couldn't have known her parents as well, though we've seen foals in Equestria tend to be more intelligent than human babies so she may have some memories even if she was a baby.

And yeah, Dad's right about one other thing. This whole season seems to be poking our collective feels a little harder than it has any right to do.

During this time I've seen a Hannah Montana, Wizards of Waverly Place, creepypasta, Adventure Time, and countless other tastes come and go. Yeah @Iggy and @Starry Aurora ... I just outed you as Hannah Montana fans. (I am so dead if they ever log in again).

Since when was I a fan of creepypasta?

Troblems: pfft, if i didn't even know who you where until the other day, that means your contributions to this sight must be dismal. ELIGIBLE FOR BAN

She threw me a birthday party in San Francisco. That sister is très legit. I voted for Michael. I think that was the guy I met at the convention who said "sweet summer child."

You should ban a person for the fun of it, or for the love. I don't think its meant to be an indictment of someones perceived contributions since it is for charity. <3

If I vote Trobs for the lols and luvs my wife will probably toss something at me heavy. I don't trust my reflexes.

Dad, I love you and all, but you are kinda slow and not very graceful.  :derp:

  15. The Jeric family will throw its continued support to Kiri.

I'm a tad bit late. French things.

Your daughter is still at school though. =D

You two in the same place on here again? This is awesome. I really want to say something humiliating that a daughter should say, but I'll let you two have this cute moment instead.

And yea I voted for Lady Kiri. :derp:
