  1. Y'know, I always figure I'd be displeased if MLP became more adventure-focused like some fans really want, especially given how much they seem to like season 6's bizarrely popular "Gauntlet of Fire," but come to think of it that'd probably mean more episodes like "Stranger Than Fan Fiction," which I am 100% fine with.

  6. You know, despite the recurring failures of communication and the surprisingly consistent family/legacy themes, I have absolutely no idea what the MLP season 7 finale could possibly be about. Aside from "Magical Mystery Cure," my least favourite finales are those of seasons 2 and 5, and those were also seasons which had almost nothing to make the finale about. But then, at least season 2's was novel for the time, and at least season 5 had Starlight. Especially looking at future synopses, I'm struggling to detect any consistent themes or arcs which could amount to a strong season finale. Maybe something will come up near the end; Twilight's anxiety about being a princess, which is what S4's finale was about, only really appeared in the last couple of episodes and even then wasn't part of the main story, so maybe it's too early to be saying this. But right now, I'm not seeing anything.

  8. "Not Asking for Trouble" - Nice to see this show being funny again, but this is a really simple episode with no internal conflict and a moral which the show did as far back as season 1. Doesn't even try to take on real-world xenophobia, because it's really just one person's fault. Any other season this would be nothing outstanding... but it's pretty neat to see this show being funny again.

  9. Okay fine "A Royal Problem" was actually really good. A little surprising that this overly plot-and-moral-focused episode is actually one of the funnier ones this season, but there you have it. Does a really good job keeping its story from becoming a slog while still having a lot of depth, and almost every plot beat feels earned. Starlight still has the same problems, but they worked for this story, and while I wish Luna and Celestia could have gotten more lighthearted hijinks, that wouldn't have fit, and both are given impressive nuance, if at the expense of potential quirks. The map is still awful, but Twilight is great for the second episode in a row; this is basically her "Viva Las Pegasus." Guess I was wrong to be worried!

  20. I am worried about episode 10 (Royal Problem), not because of the premise, IT IS EPISODE 10, after Spike at Your Service, every 10th episode is cursed...

Please Lady Writers, bless this episode.

  21. I always feel like I'm alone in finding season 6 to be a massive improvement over season 5.
