I still count My Past Is Not Today, as long as It's related to the EG universe, I consider it canon.
That just gave me an image of Sunset rocking back and forth in a mental asylum....
When you put it that way, I can't help but agree with your analysis. What Sunset--and everyone else--saw in Pinkie's memories will be pure nightmare fuel for weeks to come. I'm surprised no one has attempted to draw some fanart of what was there.

Excuse me while I freak out for just a few moments. Ahem...
Okay, now that I've gotten that out of my system, this is really fantastic news. I hope that these continue on from where Legend of Everfree left off, and I would like to see a fifth movie overall just to keep up the tradition.

She could very well live in the same city as the rest of the cast, but never really noticed any of the magic because it was originally isolated to one location. Thanks to what we discovered at the conclusion of Legend of Everfree, it's possible that Sunset's human form could become curious as to the strange happenings going on, but not for the same reasons that Sci-Twi was after. Or, she could be living in another city or country which would make it hard for her to make an appearance barring some weird circumstance.
Then again, I do view Sunset as being the gap who bridges both Equestria and the human world together. She is a pony living as a human in a world filled with them. Because of that, there might not be another Sunset out there.

Discord would be the more powerful of the two as he is able to bend reality to his will, and he's had centuries of experience despite being a stone statue for much of it. While Midnight Sparkle has the ability to open gaps between dimensions, this was due to absorbing the portal.

The last movie I saw was Legend of Everfree about five hours ago.

Yeah, we barely get to hear Sunset singing on her own, so that's great.
Embrace the Magic was her first full solo song in the movies--My Past is Not Today was an animated short so it technically doesn't count--and it took four movies for that to happen.
Forget Inception, this is the real mind screw.
And Sunset has probably been slightly scarred by seeing what was in Pinkie's mind. It also reminds us that her--Pinkie--mind can be a very scary place.

To answer the question, I am straight, but I do respect those who identify themselves as L.G.B.T.
-
I chose this name for myself back in 2001 because Ganondorf became my favourite chraracter to use in Super Smash Bros. Melee, and the number eight is my lucky number.
-
I see all four movies as Sunset falling from grace, picking herself back up and changing her life around, preventing Sci-Twi from falling down the same path, and being her guiding light as a teacher. If there is a fifth movie--there has to be what with that ending--Sunset would further develop her character, but in what way remains unseen for now.

I prefer the humans as well because of how Equestria Girls got me here. Well, if I can't change it, people will know that Sunset is my favourite character due to my avatar and some snippets of my profile.

Does the MLP CCG count? If it does, I've been collecting the Super and Ultra Rare cards for quite some time now. In fact, I'm missing only six Super Rares and thirty Ultra Rares, but I plan on getting all of them by any means necessary. I also have a large assortment of the IDW comics and a badge collection that I got off of EBay about two years ago because I'm a sucker for badges. My niece has some of the brushable dolls among other things, but I need to take a closer look to see what she has.
If anyone wants to see my card collection, I can post some links/images of pulls I got from High Magic and Marks in Time.

My joining of the fandom was by complete accident and slightly tragic. Back in October 2013, our oldest dog had to be put to sleep because he had cancerous growths in him--one was connected to his liver--so it was a pretty tough time for my family--I miss him even now after all this time. Anyway, when I woke up on a particular Sunday, I turned on the television to YTV, and the first Equestria Girls movie was on. Immediately, I was mesmerized by what I was seeing, and despite only seeing snippets, I was compelled to watch the rest of the movie online at any cost--I did so within a matter of hours.
From there, I decided to watch the first three seasons to get caught up, and it took me about a week to go through them all. I had plenty of free time on my hands thanks to being finally finished with university. I love MLP for what it has accomplished, but my heart will always be with Equestria Girls, as it was that which got me here.

I graduated from High School back in 2000--I know I'm old--yet it wasn't the best experience I had. That's why I can relate to Sunset so very well. She went through experiences similar to but different from my own. Had I been given the chance to attend Canterlot High, I'd have done so without a second thought. Sure, it'd mean relearning some things again, but it'd be worth it to be in a place where everyone is so nice and accepting.

I thought it was a pretty entertaining episode although my only gripe would have to be the ending. It just happened without anything to give it a proper resolution. It felt like it slammed into a wall. Once again, the facial expressions are priceless and Applejack being portrayed as a rustic pirate was highly entertaining. Ashleigh Ball deserves credit for that fake accent.
Also, Rarity, Applejack, and Pinkie Pie shared with the audience how they truly feel about the other. Applejack, for example, views Rarity as being far too snobbish while she views Pinkie as being a few apples short of a basketfull.- 3

Glad to have been of service to you.

Oh, and how could I forget that one scene where Sunset gets to see inside of Pinkie's memories. Psychodelic has got nothing on that.

I want to see Sunset reconcile with Princess Celestia, something I'm sure a lot of the fandom wishes to see. I know it's been an idea since practically the first movie ended, but now is the perfect time to get it done. After all, magic is seeping through the portal and Sunset is the only one in the human world who understands what it means. So, I can see her going back to Equestria in order to find out what is going on.

I just wish that I could've said Sunset Shimmer as my favourite pony, but I know she isn't one of the Mane Six and is currently exclusive to the Equestria Girls movies. Still, Fluttershy was my favourite--she's now my 2nd favourite--until Sunset came along.

I'm going to wait for a more official confirmation rather than rely on a PR response, but if this is going to be happening and I'm assuming it is, then let the speculation begin.

Welcome Ganondorf8. You just like me when it comes to I like Equestria Girls more over Friendship is Magic. I hope you have a good time on here
Thank you for the warm welcome. I think I'm going to like posting around here.

Midnight Sparkle and Twilight are the same character, so the former exists within the latter's mind as a means of torment. She doesn't exist in the physical sense but is rather a manifestation of fear because Twilight is afraid of becoming her once again. At least, that's how I view it.

It became available on Netflix on October 1, but the DVD release won't be until November 1.
-
My two favourite parts--couldn't decide between them--are Sunset's solo song and the scene right after the credits.

I avoided the temptation of watching it online through what aired in Brazil, but I watched it in full a couple of days ago. In fact, I'm now watching it for the fifth time.
Here is my lengthy review of Legend of Everfree over on my Fimfiction account.
Equestria Girls Specials Coming in 2017
in Equestria Girls
I'm surprised that this isn't a thing yet. A television show would be able to delve into further storylines and character development that has been stunted by the movies due to the seventy-two minute time limit.
