Have you considered using a digital audio workstation?

Yeah, that's something I've thought of before. The problem is that most of them seem to be quite expensive, and I don't really feel like spending so much money on something I'm not sure about. I tried Magix Music Maker a while ago, but I found it pretty much unusable (not sure if I just got a glitched copy, even the simple tasks didn't work properly). I'll probably try something else soon, but that program definitely wasn't for me.

There's Pro Tools Free. It's pretty basic, but it's high-quality and easy enough to get into.
