@Gloaming Go to your profile, edit it and click the button "Enable Status Updates?". It is disabled by default.

The ability to post status updates is unlocked after making 5 posts. You are well past that! Like Splashee mentioned, this feature is disabled by default even after making those five posts, as we want the feature to be optional. 

To enable/disable status updates:

1. Visit your profile and click Edit Profile

2. Switch ON the enable bar

3. Save your alteration

4. Refresh your profile page and make a status update
