Dusk Haven replied to Dynamo Pad's topic in Site Events
Dusk arched a brow as @TheRockARockster Roswell barreled toward them like a meteor with ambition. As @Nitobit Moonlight bolted, cannon in tow, and Roswell gave chase, Dusk stepped neatly aside to avoid the mud or ice spray from galloping hooves on the frozen path.. “I’m sure this will end with grace and dignity,” she added, mainly to the forest with a wry grin. She gave the balloon overhead a long glance. “Pinkie Pie, if you don’t come down soon, there won’t be a cannon left to return.” -

Dusk turned toward him, one brow lifting in soft amusement as the cannon tipped skyward. Her voice was easy now — no frost, no edge. “Thank you, Moonlight. And… apologies if I came off a little intense. ”She offered a wry smile — not self-deprecating, but knowing. “Old habits. Sometimes I forget not everypony sees me, my frost, my twilight, and thinks ‘fun.’ You were never at risk of harm from me." She glanced at the cannon, then at the descending balloon. “You defended Pinkie’s honor with flair. I’ll give you that.” “Just don’t aim it at my horn again unless you want to spend the next week with magically glittered fangs.” Her tone stayed warm. Teasing, but not threatening. “Come on. Let’s find dry ground before she lands us in a pie cart." Dusk lights her horn and freezes the mud entirely, willing to accept disqualification if it makes @Nitobitpath a little smoother. To prevent making the race unfair, she left it there for other ponies who managed to escape the vines and darkness -

She exhaled, slow and steady — and smiled. “Moonlight… if a little mud scared me off, I wouldn’t have lasted ten minutes in the old courts, let alone the battlefield.” She stepped closer — not looming, but light on her hooves, like the moment had passed. “You’ve got spirit. That’s what makes this fun. You're also courageous.” “Besides…” Her eyes flicked toward the party cannon. “You clearly want it more than I do." She gave him a wink. “Consider this round yours. But next time? I bring the glitter. Now, try to win this thing. I'll give you a head start to buck some trees before I do!" -

Dusk didn’t fall. She didn’t flinch. She just blinked — mud dripping from her mane like a slow, sliding accusation. She sighed. “You know…” her voice was cool, patient, and far too calm for a pony point-blanked with a cannon... "Luna once told me the bat ponies had grace, that they were elegant. Mysterious. Refined.” She wiped a splatter from her eye. “You are none of those things right now, @NitobitMoonlight.” She smiled. "So, here's the issue." Dusk’s voice was too calm. The kind of calm that made fillies sit up straight and stallions remember appointments they never had. She wiped mud from her mane with a spell that smelled faintly of lavender. “You just pointed Pinkie Pie’s party cannon at an alicorn… during an autumn festival… while my wings were tucked.” She started walking and not chasing. Just… walking. "That's brave of you, and I admire that wholly." She shook her mane out one last time, chunks of mud flying everywhere. “I’m a very patient mare, but Luna’s patience ends the moment she sees my mane like this.” “Want me to let her know why I look like I crawled through a pumpkin patch?” -
Roleplay Ideas Discussion with Dusk Haven
Dusk Haven replied to Skylight Scintillate's topic in OOC & Discussion
I'm up for anything. A discussion on magic sounds fun. Talking out our lives as Alicorns could be fun too. I'm very much into world-building, and as we go, we can follow what feels natural in the conversation. If you wish to add anyone else, I'm good with that, too. What do you think? -

“Oh, Moonlight, now you've gone and gotten my coat all dirty.” She took a deliberate step forward, her horn glowing faintly, not with threat… but with the promise of mischief. “You’re holding Pinkie’s party cannon. But here’s the thing: I promised her it’d be returned in one piece, and you’ve got about five seconds before I turn that mud into glitter.” Dusk tilted her head. “Be a gentlebat and hand it over. Or I will turn this into a lesson about confetti.” -
Twilight and her friends are the living embodiments of the Elements. When Harmony needs a voice, they become it. When Harmony drifts too far from Balance, they act for the good of every creature in Equestria. But Harmony isn’t theirs alone. It’s in the soil, in the air we breathe, in the space between every heartbeat. It exists everywhere life touches. I’ve kept Balance for over two thousand years. It’s not the same as Harmony — but they need each other to survive. And in all that time, I’ve seen far more ponies, yaks, Kirin, and the like choosing to live in love and community than to war against one another. That’s what gives me faith. It was. Those were good years.

Dusk Haven replied to Dynamo Pad's topic in Site Events
Dusk slipped into motion, her steps near soundless as she circled toward @Nitobit Moonlight Wane. When their eyes met briefly and broke, she understood — he was having trouble. A faint shimmer rippled over her hooves as she cast a thin layer of frost for traction, as she had earlier. The mud hardened just enough beneath each step to keep her light and silent. She noticed @Shiny Silvermoon ShinySilvermoon cast a large shield. She stopped, thought for a moment, and proceeded toward Moonlight. Ahead, the bat pony struggled through the sucking mud, weighed down and moving far too slowly. The other ponies moving closer and closer with their eyes looking hungry for the cannon. Dusk angled to the side, timing her steps between shouts, her breath steady and measured. She wondered if shielding magic was allowed or not. It was being used for defense, but was also being used to prevent the achievement of a goal. She shrugged and decided to go ahead with her plan. Then, with a soft crunch of frozen earth, she teleported right beside him — as if conjured from the mist itself, teleporting past the shield. “Hi!” she chirped, voice unexpectedly bright against the tense air. “That's a nice cannon you have there!” Her tone was playful, but her eyes held that steady focus, ready for her next move. -
I try to enforce a moral code in relation to my glamour magic. I won't imitate another pony alive or dead, but I created an entirely new look for the few times I had no choice but to interact with ponies who might know me. I would point to Autumn Reed as a good example. To your second point, traveling by hoof takes a long time, and the world is large. I rarely visited the same village twice in a pony's lifetime. The further you get away from the city, the more culture changes you experience. Ponies out that way aren't used to help from the capital. Communication in those days was slow. So they learned to fend for themselves. It's why I chose to stay in those outer rim places. I could help more. All the races I encountered had one thing in common. They all wanted Harmony. What that looked like varied sometimes, but generally, we all had that in common. I remember learning how to cook several delightful dishes from the ponies just north of Galloping Gorge. It was an honor to teach there. So many talented and gifted ponies came through on the regular. I learned from them how to stay young at heart, and I taught them how to survive in the world with Magic and wits. Twilight, oh dear Twilight, I remember when she was a young thing, maybe 7 or 8, she tried to make a tiny whisp for Nightmare Night. Instead, it shot into the sky and exploded into sparks. Her poor mane was frizzled, and there was a small bit of smoke coming from the tip of her horn. She put too much fear into the spell. She was afraid of failure, and that time, she did. She learned that night to pour calm and love into spells like these. She conjured it fine after that. The delight on her face was precious. Earning your Alicorn status is better than being born into it, in my opinion. When you are given it, there is a lot of time figuring yourself out, your duty to the world, and how far you can go without becoming a tyrant or disrupting Harmony or the Balance itself. Not all naturally born Alicorns are good, like Opaline. When you earn it, you've refined those skills, so you get the power when you mostly have an idea what to do with it. You don't have to wrestle with your own identity. That's just my opinion, though Sounds Fun!.

Dusk Haven replied to a topic in Site Events
I froze as the rope slipped from my grasp, vanishing into the dark as if it had never existed. The air around me thickened, soundless, still, pressing close. I exhaled slowly and steadily. “Lovely. All right, then,” I whispered into the quiet. “We do this the old way.” The ground beneath my hooves was soft, tangled with roots slick from condensation. I crouched low, feeling with the edge of one hoof, tracing how the roots curved. They all bent slightly in one direction, drawn toward something. Water, maybe, or open air. I turned that way. Each step I took was deliberate. The primaries on my wings brushed the vines to my left and right, using touch to measure space. I began to hum under my breath, a low, steady tone that rippled softly through the dark. When it came back to me dull and quick, I knew the walls were close; when it echoed faintly and slow, I followed. A stray vine snagged my foreleg. I froze, then twisted, letting it slip away. My horn sparked once, just enough frost to slick the vine with harmless ice so it couldn’t coil again. I considered this a trip hazard, so, defensive magic. Minutes, or maybe an hour, passed in that manner. The darkness didn’t end, but it changed. The air grew lighter, fresher. A whisper of wind brushed through my aurora-hued mane, faint but real. I lifted my head, eyes narrowing, and kept moving toward it. Finally, the vines thinned enough that a single shaft of moonlight pierced the canopy, silvering my periwinkle fur and feathers. I stopped beneath it, took a breath, and smiled faintly. “You always find a way through,” I murmured. “You just have to listen.” And with that, I stepped forward and cleared the obstacle. As luck would have it, I saw @Nitobit Moonlight Wane running with impressive speed, holding that remarkable canon. I smiled with mischief in mind. "Here I come, my little bat pony." -
Final had my Cutie Mark updated, but I'm unsure how I feel about it. I think it's too complex. Here's the description: A six-petaled, star-shaped lily, its petals fading from light lavender at the base to deep purple at the tips, flecked with faint, star-like specks that echo the night sky. At the flower’s center is a radiant golden starburst, glowing outward and casting soft light across the petals. The spiral represents orange for day, indigo for night, and lavender for the space in between. The overall form resembles a bloom caught between dusk and starlight— serenity balanced on the edge of transformation — serenity balanced on the edge of transformation. Does anyone have any thoughts or opinions?

Glamour magic is the magical art of disguise. You make yourself either look like other ponies or modify yourself to cover or enhance other features. I used it to cover my wings. Think changling magic. Once in a rare while, about fifteen hundred years ago, a gifted Unicorn might give pause, but I was never discovered until I had no choice but to do it myself in a life-or-death situation. Good instincts! Yes, it's precisely what Zecora does. In fact, some of my best potions came from her culture. I'm comfortable in an apothecary shop and can hold my own, concocting various elixirs, but Zecora's pony tribes made it into an art. I think that gets lost a lot with a few other Alicorns. They forget to learn from other pony races and cultures. Nice to meet you, Skylight! Yes, Twilight has taught me a few spells and different ways to look at a harmonic focus adjustment in pyrotechnics. I was one of her several teachers in Celestia's school. I disguised myself as a Unicorn named Autumn Reed to teach. I taught Advanced Strategic Spellwork and Ethical Engagement. She is quick-thinking, thinks out of the box, and her raw power was impressive, frighteningly so, when she was younger. She's pioneered advanced arcana and the study of magical matrices considerably in her short life. That comes from a master spell caster. She's a wise one to want to learn from. I'm curious about your story. Could you explain how it came to pass that you are an Alicorn only some of the time? I'm very interested to find out!

Dusk’s eyes caught the faint outline of a rope cutting through the gloom. Subtle vibrations ran along its length — proof it was in use. She gave it a small tug, feeling it pull back against her grip. “Well,” she muttered with a wry grin, “can’t be worse than standing still.” With that, she set off, following the rope’s path through the dark with quick, careful steps, curiosity and caution warring in her chest as she wondered who — or what — might be waiting at the other end. -

Dusk popped up suddenly, seemingly out of nowhere. She had followed the sound of the group’s voices through the darkness to find them. As she stepped into the faint light, the berry’s effect finally wore off, and she began to grow back to her full height—right in front of @Shiny Silvermoon. “Hi there!” she greeted with a quick, almost sheepish smile. -
My specialty is Glamour magic. I had to continually enhance and evolve the spell to remain hidden over a thousand-year period. I didn't want to confuse the ponies with another Alicorn walking about. Celestia and Luna set up a sound system. I would have thrown that system into disarray just because of how I was born. Eventually, I earned my place among them and, at the request of the ponies I had helped, was made a Princess, but even then, I usually bowed to what Celestia decided. But I digress. I am also very fond of Healing magic, potions, elixirs, and sigils. Science, well, I'm a student of all sciences, but I think chemistry and Engineering are my favorites, unless you count "magic theory" as a science. If you do, that's also at the top. The magic of Harmony and balance is nearly endless, and the study of it has been a passion of mine for two thousand years now. What about you?

That sounds so wonderful! You and I would get along excellently. Music has always been a window into the soul of ponies. I'm also a writer. I'm currently writing my memoir on Fimfiction. What kind of songs and literature do you enjoy writing the most?

Hello. Please, Dusk is fine. My hobbies, you ask? Well, immortality is long, and if you don't keep the mind busy, insanity is sure to follow. I've picked up many hobbies, but the ones I like the most are cooking, watching the leaves change in fall, writing and reading, and Luna introduced me to "Gaming," which is quite fun, actually, but I still prefer my books. I'm always open to new suggestions. Do you have any @liujiadong. May I know your name?

Enjoying my time in the Running of the Leaves event. Meeting new ponies in this universe has been rewarding. I'm staying in touch with Celestia and Luna. I miss them greatly, but Luna said to get out and meet this generation's ponies. She was right to push the issue. I'm having a blast, not just with the event but the experience as a whole.

After helping free several trapped ponies, Dusk eyed the strange berries with a skeptical frown. “Well… what’s the worst that could happen?” she muttered under her breath. She plucked one, ate it carefully, and waited. Nothing. She gave a small shrug and started toward the wall of vines—only to feel the ground creeping closer. Her eyes went wide as her body shrank smaller… and smaller… until she stood barely the size of a rat. Dusk blinked up at the towering vines with an exasperated sigh. “Well. That’s… less than helpful.” Taking a glance back, she noted that the other ponies were safe and accounted for. They possessed far more helpful powers than she did. She smiled at the thought of all these strangers to her coming together and witnessing their closeness. She hoped one day she could share in some of it. For now, there was a race to win and leaves to buck. With another resigned breath, she turned and darted forward, weaving through the tangled roots and stems. If nothing else, being tiny gave her a new advantage: slipping easily through the living maze to reach the other side. -
Thank you for such a great question @Skylight Scintillate. I've known Twilight ever since she became an Alicorn. Our introductions had to wait after Celestia's past pupil, Sunset Shimmer, abandoned her duties and left through the mirror dimension. It became too risky to introduce me to anyone else before Alicornhood. We share a great friendship, with common interests in books, science, and magic. We differ on interests in military strategy and acculum, and her love of the summer months and activities. I love the pony Celestia dearly, but you can keep the hot months. Bleh. My focus as a mentor (All four of us Alicorns mentored her at some point) was teaching her the art of Diplomacy and combat. Dimplocy because she would need it and combat, hoping she never would. It was my great pleasure to watch her take what I taught her and make it her own. I consider her wisdom valuable and would happily fight wing to wing beside her. She's such a delightful pony. I wish everypony had the great honor of meeting her and calling her a friend. I hope that answers your question! - Princess Dusk Haven
