I am a mint junkie, to be honest. I like all things mint. Candy (peppermint bark is the best), cake, ice cream, drinks, etc. Mint is refreshing and seems to liven up a lot of things. The mint julep is one of my favorite mixed drinks, and whenever I go to Cold Stone, Dairy Queen, or any similar establishment, I always get something minty. Mint teas are quite soothing, and mint flavored hot chocolates are good too, but it seems that any "mint" flavored coffee additives taste nothing like mint and are incredibly disgusting. Definitely would not recommend that anyone try those.

My favorite color is green, specifically greens similar to emerald or moss. Green is a very soothing color, somewhat regal, and combines well with many other earth tones. In fact... I really love earth tones. Brown is my second favorite color.

As much as I hate to admit it to myself, much less others, my eyesight isn't what it used to be. My vision was 20/10 up until about a year ago. Don't know what it is these days, but I can tell that over the course of the past year it has degraded slightly. Text that's far away is blurry. So far that's the only indication I can think of to indicate degradation, so things aren't bad. Certainly not to the point that I need anything to correct my vision. Maybe I should see an optometrist for an examination before things get any worse, just so I'll have a concrete point of reference to go by.
My nighttime vision is at least as acute as my day vision. No special issues there.

Perennial allergies keep me in some state of lethargy all year unless I take something for them. However, things are much worse during the Spring and Summer what with all that pollen and mold. My favorite month would have to be November - the trees are beautiful as their leaves change color and begin to fall, the worst of my allergies are through, and it starts getting really cold. That's also when the bugs start to vanish.
Cold air also has a pleasant and peculiar taste to it.
If you enjoy Summer, I'm glad. The bugs, inescapable heat, allergies, and feeling of swelling in my extremities just doesn't do it for me. At least in the winter you can put on more clothes or heavier ones, but in the Summer all you can do is roast.
I absolutely hate Summer because, in Australia; summer = 35-45 degrees celsius. If you're not familiar with the celsius system, 100 degrees celsius is boiling temperature and 0 degrees is freezing temperature.
45 Celsius is about 113 Fahrenheit, which is average in my part of Virginia. We usually have 100% humidity to go with it. When I worked for an amusement park many years ago and had to stand on the tarmac all day, the temperature was usually 120 Fahrenheit (48.9 Celsius).
-
Didn't have much of a winter this time. Snowfall was low, as is customary for Virginia, and it was quite a way into the season before temperatures started dropping. Personally, I love the cold and the weather that comes with it. I wish it could be winter all year. Cold doesn't bother me much, but when it does I can always dress in layers or wear heavier clothes to deal with it. Better than walking around under the hot summer sun, helplessly roasting with gnats, wasps, and other bugs all over the place.

All my life I've had dental problems. Runs in the family. My grandfather had all of his teeth removed in his 20s because he couldn't maintain them and dental practices weren't as advanced as they are today. Fortunately I haven't gotten to that point, but I've had plenty of visits to the dentist in my day. When I was little, not even 10 years-old, I had to have several teeth removed due to overcrowding so that the others that had yet to come in would fit properly. I don't know how many fillings I've had done, and I've had 3 root canal operations that I can recall. One of those root canals was prompted by a very painful infection. Due to the infection my dentist was unable to numb the area, so I was forced to endure all of the pain.
Mouth pain is the one type of pain that I've never had a high tolerance for. Anything else is fine, but when something hurts in my mouth, it's debilitating. Going to the dentist used to unnerve me, but after that one, horrid root canal mentioned above, my tolerance for mouth pain has increased and I'm not at all bothered by the prospect of going to the dentist anymore. Hard to imagine things getting any worse than that particular escapade.
I had two get two fillings yesterday, actually (As well as a cleaning because why not?). They used too much of the freezing thingy (Stupid brain wont remind me what it's called), and my cheek stayed numb for 5 hours, when it should have only been 1. -.-' Oh, and it hurt, cos they didn't apply it in the right place...
Novocaine (or any anesthetic) doesn't seem to work as well on me as it does most people and it wears more quickly. They always overkill my dosage now just to play it safe.

Real-life examples are difficult. Mr. Rogers was a childhood hero of mine and a wonderful man, as cited by someone else earlier in this thread. I can easily say I'd like to be more like him.
Fictional people are easier, and there's one in particular that stands above the rest: Drizzt. He wasn't raised much differently than the rest of the males in his society, but he never conformed, never allowed his spirit to be broken or sacrificed his principles to Llolth. For the early decades of his life this was largely out of naivety, but even as he gained understanding he only found himself disgusted by his people's way of life. The way he stood alone against his own race and family in defense of his values despite the possibility of death was admirable. When he finally came to the surface world he was reviled by all because of his race, but rather than giving up hope he won over many friends and changed the perception of his race simply by being a man of good character and helping everyone he could. That's the abridged version.

Since I was little I've always loved things like computers, electronics, video games, and that sort of stuff, but whereas simply liking those things made one a nerd when I was a kid, I think they've become much more accepted these days and now only those with a high level of knowledge of them would be considered nerds. Video game obsession isn't as stigmatized today as it was in the early 90s; I suppose more people realized that it wasn't any more a waste of time than vegetating in front of the TV and watching it all weekend.
Going by most people's accepted idea of the modern nerd, I suppose I qualify. Nobody should know as much about Star Trek as I do. Dialogue, continuity errors, technical specifications - you name it, I probably know it. The simple fact that I use Linux seems to be enough for most people who know what it is, and as you all know, simply liking MLP is enough to earn that appellation. I also never "grew out" of my love for gaming, though my tastes may have changed; whereas I was more into shooters and sims (flight, naval, etc.) when I was a kid, I prefer things a bit more relaxing these days (check out FTL).
Being a "nerd" isn't a point of embarrassment for me as I don't feel that there's anything abnormal about what I like. In fact, the things I listed above require that one think a bit unconventionally or keep an open mind. Nothing wrong with that.

A few people I've heard weigh in on this issue have said they can't see much or any difference. All I can conclude is that they're visually impaired or have a lousy display, or their Blu-Ray player is hooked up with composite cables. For me, the difference is astounding. In the case of bearded men, the difference between DVD and Blu-Ray can mean the difference between seeing their beards as a fuzzy mass or making out each individual hair. No question in my mind: Blue-Ray is far superior.
Economically, it's pretty much where DVD was at in its prime. The cost of Blu-Ray disks is down dramatically, as are the players, and the players can also read standard DVDs. Many movies in Blu-Ray format (which is all new movies) come also with a DVD copy, so there's need to make a difficult decision there. TV show box sets are another matter.

You're tearing me apart, Harmy! Nobody should be forced to make such a dire decision! Wait... aren't jogging pants and windbreaker pants the same thing? I always thought so.
Eh. Shorts are preferred in public, but whenever I'm lounging about the house I prefer something less constricting. Most of the time I wear something like this:
Or something equally nerdy, yet cozy.

@~Vallo~ and @JrmiRadd, I merged your threads on bronies in other fandoms with this one which was a bit older. Just letting you know.
While I've never gotten heavily involved in any fandom before this one, I'm still a huge Trekkie. My knowledge of Star Trek is vast. And thought I haven't had much to do with the rest of the Starcraft fandom, again, I have a lot of knowledge of that franchise; I always played the games for the plot more than the gameplay itself. I'm technically in those two fandoms, but I'm still alone.

Yeah, I've heard that one a few times. xD
The first one that comes to mind is when someone at my last job was surprised when I told him that I like jazz. When I asked why, all he could say was "You just don't seem like the kind of guy who would like jazz." At work I was known to go out of my way and stay late to help people with things that didn't fall under my job description and had a way of building a rapport with a lot of the more friendly and motivated students. What other kind of guy would I have to be to enjoy jazz music? :\
Here's one that I can understand: people don't think I'm the type who would enjoy baking or interior design, yet I enjoy both of those things. I have an eye for color coordination and arranging a room; it's something I also find soothing. Baking is a relaxing hobby, and a delicious one too. Breads, cakes, cupcakes, cookies - you name it and I'll bake it. A few others have said I really don't seem like someone who would own the weapons that I do, or any at all; again, I don't know why this is. I appreciate precision and fine workmanship, both of which go into making any effective gun or blade.
My interests are eclectic. Various forms of art and entertainment appeal to me even if I'm not defined by any one in particular, like some people are. Reading is one of my favorite pastimes and most of what I read is Sci-Fi, fantasy, and the like, which is entirely expected by those who know me, once they get over the surprise that I actually enjoy reading. Twilight and Applejack are almost opposites in that one is very cerebral and one is very physical. However, I can relate strongly to both of them and for a while it was hard for me to name one of them as "best pony." Expect the unexpected wherever I'm involved.

So I got into some other stuff and stopped playing this a while back, but recently found myself with an overwhelming desire to return.
Chigens can attest to my legendary suckage, as I played a few rounds with her a couple nights back. Got wasted within a few short minutes most of the time and hardly caused any damage. At one point Chigens seemed to be capping the enemy base just fine by herself and there was no enemy activity for a while, and my desire finally to survive a fight compelled me to continue lurking in some bushes. Unfortunately, Chigens came under attack and bit it right as I arrived to assist. That just made me feel more terrible.
Well, I've stuck with it and continued to polish my skills, and I'm happy to say that I suck less.
Hardly impressive, I know, but compared to me barely damaging an enemy or two and getting wasted in short order every single time, it's a big improvement over where I was. The fact that I survived most of those fights is a miracle. But hey, I've always been a naval combat guy, so I'm out of my element. Given a little more time, I think I can get the hang of this.
Also, bump.-

This is the thread for all things Tulpa, and as you can see, it's pretty big and there are lots of participants. I've merged your thread with it. Please consult with the search feature before making a new one to determine if there's already one out there.

@shocker1991, there was already a thread for one's least favorite/most hated day of the week, so I merged your thread with it, though the poll carried over. Before creating a new topic, please consult the search function to see if the same one is out there already.

My birth was a bit complicated. Took a Caesarean section to get me out. Due to the difficulties surrounding it and the toll it took on my mother, it was recommended that she not have another child, making me the first and last.
Growing up without brothers or sisters had its pros and cons, obviously. Everyone I went to school with who had siblings thought I was so lucky to be an only child, and I thought them fortunate to have siblings and terrible for wanting them gone. Although not having any meant a bit more freedom and stuff for me, I would have gladly given that up to rid myself also of the loneliness. Probably would have helped my social abilities too.

These were the companions who justified my principles, who gave me the strength to continue against any foe, real or imagined. These were the companions who fought the helplessness, the rage, and frustration. These were the friends who gave me my life.
- Drizzt Do'Urden
He spoke this about the Companions of the Hall, his friends who adventured with him for decades and the first people who were able to see past his drow heritage and love him simply for who he is. This quote is significant to me because it echoes my experiences with the brony community and the significant impact it's had on my life.
The following were also spoken by Drizzt:
"There is a place within each of us where we cannot hide from the truth, where virtue sits as judge. To admit the truth of our actions is to go before that court, where process is irrelevant. Good and evil are intents, and intent is without excuse."
"Spirit. In every language in all the Realms, surface and Underdark, in every time and every place, the word has a ring of strength and determination. It is the hero's strength, the mother's resilience, and the poor man's armor. It cannot be broken, and it cannot be taken away."
"There is one other error in the Gondsman's line of reasoning, I believe, on a purely emotional level. If machines replace achievement, then to what will people aspire? And who are we, truly, without such goals? Beware the engineers of society, I say, who would make everyone in all the world equal. Opportunity should be equal, must be equal, but achievement must remain individual."-

What I suspect the Staff Lounge is like
in Forum Lounge
· Edited by Artemis
The staff lounge reminds me of how Q described the Delta quadrant. He said it contains "wonders more incredible than you can possibly imagine, and terrors to freeze your soul!" Except our lounge probably has a few more terrors than it does wonders.
See below for one example.
