  1. I'm beginning to think that scene at the end was just some kind of homage to horror movies where the ending is something ominous that shows the monster/killer/whatever isn't quite gone yet. I don't watch horror movies but I'm pretty sure that's a thing.. It was tricky to tell at first since there are so many things that seem to be being set up for later use, but over time I've grown more and more skeptical of whether Flutterbat will ever be a thing again.

And I'm completely ok if it isn't. It only served to derail the actual conflict in the episode and make everything go crazy instead of having anyone work out their differences. I'm having trouble imagining it being used any better the second time around.

  2.

I'd love to hear the arguments saying she is. The only times we know of that she's ever fought someone by herself, she's lost against Chrysalis, presumably lost against Nightmare Moon offscreen in the pilot episodes, and was losing against her in the flashback before she whipped out the Elements. She was also unable to to anything when Discord broke loose and was powerless against a bunch of seeds he planted a thousand years ago. For such a powerful being, Celestia's got a remarkably poor record . But then again, plot demands it and such.

  3. What're some good fanfics about Dash that you all have read? This one has always been one of my favorites. Shine by The Descendant. It kinda shows Dash as a kid going through a really hard time and one of her heroes helping her through it by writing letters, and I won't say more for fear of spoiling anything, but man this thing is wonderful.

  4. A thousand times yes. I haven't opened too many up in the past, but they're extraordinarily easy to forget about and miss replies to and I always feel pretty bad when I realize that somebody's gotten back to me and I haven't responded/thanked them/closed the ticket. I feel like it'd definitely speed up the process, if it's something that could be implemented.

  5. Friendship is Magic 1 and 2

You kind of need these :derp:

    Applebuck Season

Solid Applejack episode and will help us get to know the Mane Six better as a whole

    Call of the Cutie

    Needed to introduce CMC

    Mysterious Mare Do Well

Having it earlier on will make it feel less out of place, and it's a good Dash episode.

    Green Isn’t Your Color

Gives Rarity and Fluttershy and their relationship some time time to shine, and an episode about open communication and talking to your friends about your problems would be most welcome after Mare Do Well

    Winter Wrap Up

Great song, great Twilight episode, a little worldbuilding, gives all of the Mane Six a little time in the sun, perfect.

    The Cutie Mark Chronicles

Gives the CMC some screentime, good backstory for the Mane Six, perfect.

    Sonic Rainboom

Dash insecurities and the payoff of seeing her overcome them. Having it take place after Cutie Mark Chronicles also reinforces the thoughts hanging in her mind that her greatest accomplishment might've been a fluke.

    Suited For Success

Perfect Rarity episode, sets up for the Gala later, and will hopefully wash away and bad impressions people got of her from Sonic Rainboom.

    Party of One

Great Pinkie episode, sets up her insecurities at being left behind and abandoned, for later use.

    Lesson Zero

Good Twilight episode about her anxieties how her friends have her back

    Sisterhooves Social

Sweetie Belle episode, also gives Rarity a lot of great screentime and portrays her fantastically in the end. Very relatable for people with siblings, also gives AJ and Apple Bloom some time in the sun and good characterization. A must.

    Stare Master

Gives the CMC some more attention and gives us a protective and motherly Fluttershy which is good development for her.

    Luna Eclipsed

Good Twilight episode, great visually, fits everyone but Rarity into the episode seamlessly, sets aside Luna for later use.

    Secret of My Excess

Gives Spike some well-needed and deserved screentime as well as giving Rarity some time with him as well.

    Pinkie Pride

Pinkie's insecurities from Party of One will be fresh in everyone's mind, lots of great music, and possibly the best Pinkie episode.

    Hurricane Fluttershy

Best episode, development for Flutters, showcases Dash's development and ability to be sensitive when the situation calls for it.

Return of Harmony 1 and 2

You don't need these, but I feel it'd be a shame to exclude them anyway. Showcases the bond between the Mane Six while managing to be very epic at the same time.

    Sleepless in Ponyville

Scootaloo episode, second best episode, showcases more of Dash's newfound maturity, more of how far Luna's come since the first episodes and Luna Eclipsed, I can't leave it out.

    The Last Roundup

Wonderful Applejack episode that shows how important she is to her friends and family.

    Wonderbolt Academy

    Payoff of Dash's growth

    Rarity Takes Manehattan

Good Rarity episode that used all the Mane Six pretty well too.

    Pinkie Apple Pie

Gives AJ and Pinkie some time together, gives us a great song, gives AJ's family some attention, seems like a solid choice.

    The Best Night Ever

Great Mane Six episode, the only finale that would conclude the series in a halfway satisfying manner.

Well, that's the best I got. May have given too much weight to Dash's arc and feels like Spike should've been shown more love (though the series itself could stand to do that too :P). The CMC also feel out of place since there's no real payoff for what they're working towards, and it focuses more on their relationships with their families than actual Cutie Mark Crusading. Trying to put them in a sensible order was kinda tricky too. Oh well. I tried, and I think I did about as good as I'm able. Might try to watch the episodes in this order sometime.

  6. Lately my friend Stellafera's been working on something and showing me her progress as it comes along. It's been really interesting to see how she thinks when she works.

Some things have been snipped out of these messages to not give away what she's doing.

  7. Remember when I said I’d make a big post about Mami a while ago? This is it.

Spoilers for the show and minor ones from the Different Story manga (which y’all should read now if you haven’t)

In case you want something to listen to while you read ;)

Anyhoo, one of the things that comes to mind when thinking of Mami (aside from the metric buckton of head jokes) is her crippling problem with loneliness. It even goes back to her wish, in her panic, pain and confusion she healed herself and let her parents die. And I’m sure that’s probably her biggest regret. I just thought it was interesting that this goes all the way back to the wish she made.

I think it’s also important to recognize that this loneliness is to a degree, completely voluntary. She’s gorgeous and kind, and would certainly have friends at school if she had more time to worry about her social life. She could even work with other magical girls, if not for her insistence on saving everyone and going out of her way to kill familiars that won’t reward her in the least. Mami’s great compassion for others is the cause of her pain, but she willingly endures it because she’s willing to sacrifice her happiness in order to make sure people are safe.

This doesn’t mean that she’s happy the way she is, because she’s plainly putting on a face. She wanted Madoka and Sayaka to become magical girls and her teammates very badly. I’ve wondered if this is why she seems more attached to Kyubey than any of the girls seem to be (aside from the fact that she doesn’t know he’s a manipulative shit :derp: ). Hanging around him is the best way to find new magical girl friends after all.  And when she does meet them, she tries to be as cool as humanly possible, wiping out witches in the most epic ways possible, even going so far as to name her finishing move. She even kind of shows this when she’s fighting the first witch of the show. When she’s having some trouble and getting smacked around a tad, to reassure Madoka and Sayaka, she says “I’m fine :). Wouldn’t want to make myself look uncool in front of my future partners after all.” Which you could just look at as her trying to comfort them, but you could also interpret it as also being another sign of how much she’s paying attention to how she’s making the job of being a magical girl look.

    img-2287386-1-tumblr_mzq1ckhZNC1smhol9o1

This isn’t to say that Mami is some kind of awful person who’s trying to manipulate the girls into doing something plainly dangerous, so that she can be happier. She’s quite open about how dangerous and awful being a magical girl can be, and counsels the girls about making sure they know what they’re doing, and to use their wishes wisely. Her attitude is more like “This is crummy and life-threatening work, but someone needs to do it, and if we do it together we’ll be ok :)” Which is why when Madoka comes out and says that the thing she wants most is to be like and be with Mami, she’s completely overjoyed. Madoka saw her as everything she was trying to look like, the cool, perfect, superhero who dedicates herself to helping everyone. She doesn’t have to be alone anymore. And this is also why she lashes out against Homura, who she saw as trying to get in the way of everything finally paying off. And really, if Madoka makes a contract, she gets to be special, Mami gets a friend, and Madoka gets to use her impossible powers to kill witches and keep everyone safe. Would that be so bad?

    img-2287386-2-dGrNe1m.png

The problem though, is that Mami’s idealism and heroics can only really exist because she’s ignorant as to how messed up things really are. The one time she finds out that all the monsters she’s been killing have just been fallen magical girls, and that she’s likely going to join them someday, she completely loses it and goes on a rampage. And it’s even a bit understandable. When her parents died, her way of consoling herself was “If I kill witches, I can keep others from having to go through this” When she didn’t build friendships with students at school, and when magical girls rejected her she thought “It’s ok. Me being happy isn’t the most important thing. So long as I keep killing witches, everyone else can be happy.” It was this sense of purpose that was keeping her propped up, so when she found out that it was all built on a lie, I don’t blame her for snapping. Rather, I think it’s more commendable that she had such a selfless attitude and such commitment in the first place. Whether they’ll admit it or not, Madoka, Sayaka, Kyoko and Homura are only who they are today because of Mami. Her attitude continued to be a positive influence even after she was gone, as well.

The fact that it was able to create such a great and interesting character in only three episodes and a flashback that wasn’t even focused on her says a lot about this show. If you’ve made it this far, thanks for reading and hope you enjoyed :)

  10. Not in the least. If you look at the polls for how people felt about individual episodes, the reaction is always overwhelmingly positive. On an individual basis, if someone doesn't like something about an episode, they may as well say so. So long as they're not being jerks about it, there's nothing wrong with anyone voicing an opinion about an episode or something that happened.

The fandom seems to be known for overreacting, but I feel that applies both positively and negatively. Overall I wouldn't say that people are anything close to "too critical".

  11. If you reversed the results of the poll, you'd get pretty close to my list . Fluttershy with over three times as many votes as Dashie...Loads of things wrong here in my humble opinion

If anything, I'd describe Dash's cuteness as the opposite of Flutters'. Fluttershy seems for lack of a better word, suffocatingly cute. Is she cute? Sure, but it's also shoved in my face every second she's onscreen and after a point I got desensitized and it's just not there anymore to the same degree. Dash on the other hand is the kind of character who would hate to be called cute, even to the point of becoming all embarrassed and defensive about it, which is only even cuter and.... Whether she'll admit it or not though, she's a massive dork when it comes to her heroes, and a huge softie when it comes to her pet tortoise and her chicken filly sister.

    469011.gif

And that's not even mentioning those voice cracks . Other than maybe Pinkie, I'd say her voice is far cuter than just about any main character's. I'm a biased fanboy, but I can't call Dashie anything other than the cutest character in the show.
