  1. I'm very impressed with Twilight so far; she's off to a better start this year than last.

Would Applejack be doing better against Rarity or is that just wishful thinking? My theory is that A.J., being as different from Rares as she is, would provide a greater contrast in the minds of the voters and possibly get more support because of that. Whereas Coloratura is a celebrity with a heart of gold, and Rarity is a wannabe-celebrity fashion designer with a heart of gold.

      :pout:

...Sorry Rarity, but it's true. xD

  2. Guys, I have some...surprising news.

Twilight vs. Lyra Opens Dimensional Rift

It was supposed to be just another game. An important matchup in the Divisional round, certainly; the rubber match between rivals who had met twice earlier, of course. What it became was something else again.

Just outside Twilight Sparkle's new palace, a throng of spectators from Ponyville and beyond witnessed a thrilling chase. Twilight took off and Lyra matched her pace, staying just a few votes behind throughout the first half. Seeing that things were too close for comfort, the princess doubled her efforts after halftime and jumped out to a double-digit lead--but once again Lyra fought back. Twilight saw her momentum stall completely as nightmares of 2013 nearly came back to haunt her again. But the timer ran out, and she held on to win the game by just nine votes.

The contest itself was the closest the Princess of Friendship and the indomitable underpony had ever fought. An overjoyed Twilight spouted fireworks from her horn. Before the postgame interviews could begin, a blinding flash suddenly enveloped the courtyard.

A consolation prize? Lyra looks as dumbstruck as everypony else.

It was discovered that Lyra, in anticipation of winning and revisiting the human world, had started up the dimension-hopping machine Twilight helped her design three years earlier. When Twilight's fireworks clashed with the magical energies being given off by the machine, two impossible things simultaneously occurred.

One was Lyra transforming into an alicorn. The other...

"...Where am I? And where are my wings?"

Upon examining the scene, Princess Celestia determined that Twilight Sparkle had been stranded in another dimension. Tournament officials have not stated what they plan to do about this, but one thing is for certain: Twilight's EFC Championship rematch with Princess Luna is going to be very interesting.

    Unicorn Twilight, 52-43

Recaps of our other three games will be up soon.

  3. I watched WrestleMania XXX with a friend just last week...still a great show that I'll be proud to keep in my collection.

So far, though, nothing has happened to interest me in Mania XXXII. I'm just not sold on Roman Reigns or Dean Ambrose as main eventers, much less possible champions. I'm indifferent to Triple H at this point. Brock Lesnar is my favorite wrestler but he's going to lose at Fastlane and be stuck in a match with Bray Wyatt, who ceased to be interesting after losing his feud with Cena. There is nothing in the works for this PPV that I would pay money to see.

  4. I can't believe how close the AJ/Coloratura game still is! They've been deadlocked since the very beginning. I've never seen that before.  :yay:

Lyra continues to challenge Twilight Sparkle like no other background pony, but the main character seems to have the edge. Rarity finally has a comfortable lead on Celestia and Rainbow Dash has done better than I thought, but she's always been cursed with extremely tough competition (first Lyra, then Twilight, now Luna in 2016) right out of the gate.

  5. I'm just glad I didn't bet on it. I swear Carolina should have won in theory.

You made the right decision. Never bet against the league's #1 defense.

Decent game, if a bit sloppy with few offensive highlights. The Denver defense put on another great performance. I still think their team was lucky to get here, but they made the most of the opportunity.

And the commercials were actually okay this year, overall. Standouts were the Toyota Prius car chase and the Heinz one with all the wiener dogs. Very cute.

  6. Impressions from the second half:

    * DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS. 10 out of 12 times now, when a team with the NFL's #1 defense makes it to the Super Bowl, they have won it.

    * Turnovers everywhere. However, Denver was able to recover from theirs and ride the momentum of their defense all the way to the end. Carolina's cost them any chance at a win.

    * I felt that if Denver couldn't score an offensive touchdown, they would lose the game. Carolina still could have caught fire and gone downfield for a TD to go up 17-16. When Cam was stripped of the ball and Anderson ran it in for Denver, I finally relaxed. It was over.

    * What a way for Peyton Manning to go out, if he does choose to retire. The guy still takes a lot of flak just for not winning more Super Bowls or not being as good as Tom Brady, or whatever. But he's one of the greatest QBs to ever play the game and he deserves this moment.

    * Cam Newton was seriously humbled tonight, and he'll be better for it. Next time we see him here, he'll be a wiser and more composed player.

  7. Impressions from the first half:

    * Denver's defense is REALLY good. They've lived up to the hype.

    * Denver's offense is not really good. They're blowing their opportunities and should be up by a lot more than 6.

    * Cam Newton is dog-tired, showing signs of nerves, but his tremendous talent shows through in flashes.

    * Talib should be ashamed of himself. You're in a Super Bowl, your team is ahead on the scoreboard...calm down. Play defense in a manner that you and your children can be proud of when you look back on this 40 years later.

    * I have never been less interested in a halftime show in my life. Coldplay at a Super Bowl? That's why I'm up here in my room posting instead of watching the show downstairs. xD  ("At least it's not Bieber," my mom said.) Actually I don't like any of the four artists they've got here. Think I'll listen to some Fats Domino instead!

  8. I'm shocked no one has mentioned this yet, but...I gotta go with "E.T." for the Atari 2600. I have personally played it, on an actual Atari 2600 machine with an original Atari controller and my own cartridge copy of the game. (They're not hard to find, despite the fact that millions of them were destroyed in a New Mexico landfill years ago.)

It is as repetitive, and boring, and just plain BAD, as everyone says it was. Many Atari games are very repetitive by today's standards. However, they were also fun to play. E.T. is not fun to play, which makes the drudgery far more painful.

E.T. is walking across a field. There are holes in the field. E.T. will fall into these holes one by one to see if anything is at the bottom. Your job is to levitate him out of the holes in an extremely slow and frustrating manner, until you run out of holes. That is the entire game.

It killed gaming in the Western world for 4-5 years.

  9. Do you have a singer you've always liked, for reasons you can't quite put your finger on, and whom you've never met another fan of (at least in person)? A singers who is no longer relevant in pop culture, or is just on the edge of relevance, or possibly never will be relevant but you still like them? Well, talk about 'em in this thread!

The singer I like that no one else does is Stacey Q, an 80s (VERY 80s) dance/pop/techno artist best known for her 1986 hit Two of Hearts. When I was a kid, I ordered a cassette tape off a cereal box and it had that song on it. I listened to it over and over and probably drove my parents crazy. That's how I discovered Stacey Q. Been a fan ever since and I've listened to all of Stacey's stuff now (she's released five albums and still performs in California).

"He Doesn't Understand" is my favorite pop song ever, and I might be the only person who even remembers it.

  10. How bad will the commercials be? Or will they be genuinely good and funny for the first time in................gosh, how long HAS it been since they were really funny?  :o

I may end up watching, more for culinary reasons than anything else. People in the house are making food, you see.

  11. Oh for Celestia's sake... Up against Rarity and her hoard already?

We got stiff competition guys. Rally the troops.

    https://mlpforums.com/topic/145433-poll-most-attractive-pony-tournament-2016-divisional-round-is-on/

I believe it is "horde." (EDIT: NVM, you fixed it in the next post.) The horde of Rarity voters have a hoard of Rarity pictures to spread Rarity-ism, which they never get bored of spreading throughout the board. No pictures wars yet in this tournament, surprisingly...although I think you guys had better start one before it's too late, 'cause Celestia does need help.

  12. It's starting to get intense now! Coloratura is doing amazing well against Applejack, Lyra's standing up to Twilight, and Rarity just jumped five votes ahead but Celestia won't go out without a fight. I wonder who will be the one to start off the picture war!

Rainbow Dash needs more love, though. She has to be the most ironically cute pony on the show.  :dash:  Like Trixie, she's a stunner who has never won a playoff game.

  13. No, not at all. The Cars movies were beneath them; that's part of the general consensus and I agree with it. But it is hard to understand what a revolution Pixar created in entertainment  unless, like me, you're old enough to remember Toy Story at the time it came out. Disney was getting too ambitious after their late 80's-early 90's classics and starting to overreach themselves; Don Bluth (Secret of NIMH, Land Before Time, All Dogs Go to Heaven) was running out of gas and started to put out schlock like Thumbelina. Then along comes Pixar with this amazing project that is the most technically ambitious children's movie we've ever seen, and yet possesses a heart and soul beneath all the CGI. That was unheard of. People of all ages could, and did, enjoy that movie. My dad loved it as much as I did.

Pixar went on to prove it wasn't a fluke with Toy Story 2, Monsters Inc (beautiful despite a poor script), Finding Nemo (sensational), and The Incredibles. Their recent output is not as consistently excellent because they're starting to repeat themselves and fall victim to sequel-itis, but they can still put out classics now; Inside Out was my favorite movie they've ever done. Is it possible to "overrate" a studio that produced a movie that changed your life? ^_^  IMO, they deserve all the plaudits they've received.

  14. This has been around for years so it would already be by now. Also why would you care if it is on the cringe channel, some anonymous person might make a statement about bronies that offends you for some reason? This is nothing new for cringe videos.

I don't even know what a cringe video is, though I can guess. It doesn't sound like I'm missing out on anything important. :maud:

As my old friend Auryn said during the first tourney,  "I think it is also worth noting how awesome of a fandom this is. Talking about the attractiveness of cartoon horses without it being awkward? Hell yeah."  I've had that quote in my profile ever since. If we constantly worry about what other people think of us in videos or anything else, it won't be an awesome fandom anymore. It'll be just like any other muzzled, insecure group of people out there. Let's keep it just the way it is.

  15. Far as I'm concerned, they've all been good to various degrees.

    Except the Virtual Boy.

I know a game store owner who even liked the Virtual Boy. Still plays it on his dining room table and everything.

And I don't think Nintendo ever stopped making good consoles. I don't really feel what they're trying to do these days, but that's all right. I'll always have fond memories of the NES, SNES, and N64. I have Nintendo to thank for making me a console gamer.
