  1. Dude, you had a BAU account for all of a month and were trying to tell moderators who have been around for three years how to run the site. When you were told "please stop doing that", you continued to do it, started complaining about bullying, and then ran off to another forum to seek attention. This bit is particularly hilarious though: We managed to schedule an entire convention on about 3 days notice after Sydneigh flopped, but oh no, a 15-year-old got offended, how will we survive?!?!?
  2. Hey everyone! Just wanted to let you guys know that Brony@Home are having another Folding Competition, with over $1000 dollars in prizes! In addition to that we have an incredibly cheesy video to go with it: Have some copy-paste from the description: Okay, so basically, you install a program by the name of Folding@Home, tell us your username, and in two months we give you free stuff? Sound good? Of course it sounds good! All info, including signups, download links, score sheets (when the competition is in progress), and a full prize list are available on our forums, here: http://www.bronyathome.org/forums/showthread.php?tid=151 Thanks, and I hope to see you folding soon! (Feel free to sign up in this thread, I'll be checking it regularly, although we would prefer that you signed up on our forums, as that makes our workload significantly easier. To sign up all you need to do is tell us your Folding@Home username, and give us a method of contacting you)
  3. If you don't run Aero, enabling that might allow you to run F@H on full without lagging, and vice versa. Aero runs on the GPU, non-Aero runs on the CPU, so depending on which one is faster, changing it over could reduce lag. EDIT: Alternatively, boot up FAHControl, go to Configure > Expert, add an extra client option (Name: client-type Value: beta), and save that. That'll put you on the beta GPU core which is much more efficient. It may be slightly buggy, though. Up to you.
  4. I can't tell. The CPU project takes a while to initialise, and the GPU project is idling, so I don't know what that's showing either. I'd recommend chucking it up to Full so the GPU will run 24/7, and just chuck it down to medium when you want to game. I also can't tell whether or not they're good numbers for your hardware without knowing what your hardware is. I can tell your GPU is from the GT220 series from the image, but not CPU. Also, it's good to hear that people have actually seen that Derpibooru and followed it! I was worried that it'd be a waste of money.
  5. If you think CPU noise is annoying, try living in a house with a baby. Will add you into the team when I get back home, my server appears to be down and I can't reboot it from here.
  6. Ah, I know your problem, I had the same one. APUs are set up to act like laptops, and turn off to save battery power. To change this you need to go into your computer's power saving options and change the settings "Put the computer to sleep" to "Never". I also recommend changing the default plan to "High Performance". You should be able to access the power saving options here: Control PanelAll Control Panel ItemsPower OptionsEdit Plan Settings
  7. Just a heads up that the sub team stats will be updated very infrequently for most of January, as the script is run out of my home computer, which I'm currently 330km away from. Try running it only on CPU, or dropping the clock speed. I go a bit over "max temperatures" while folding, with stock cooling. I just disabled thermal throttling 'cos you can safely go a few degrees above 72.7 (the point where it throttles). Note that the 3 out of 6,000,000 is normal, it only shows every 1% in the log, and 3/6000000 is 0% (not sure why 3, but yeah).
  8. I see that your problem is fixed, but this is the first time I've encountered another A8 APU folder. I'm running the A8-3870K, can get ~3k PPD on standard clock while dedicated, ~3.5k PPD at a 3.3GHz overclock (again, dedicated), and 2k/2.2k respectively when actually using the computer. Would be interesting to see your numbers. Of course it's a good idea, especially with the competition going. You can still enter that if you're quick, late entries are still open.
  9. *checks watch* ...you're pushing it But late entries are still open until January 13, so done. You'll show up in the competitors list and on our leaderboard spreadsheet soon.
  10. Could you give me the exact PPD of your CPU and GPU? ATI GPUs get a disproportionately lower amount of points for equal work compared to nVidia GPUs, so that could be contributing to it. In other news... THE COMPETITION STARTS IN A WEEK We have 23 (and counting!) prizes to give away, and if you enter now you have more than a 40% chance of winning. More info is available on our official forums. You can enter by posting your Folding@Home username here or in that forum thread, along with something along the lines of "I'd like to participate in the competition". (Also, Feld0, could we get exact details on the prize(s) you offered?)
  11. This is just a quick FYI, Brony@Home now has an official forum for all distributed projects we participate in (F@H, WCG, Seti, Majestic-12, DIMES, and dozens of others). The threads on other various forums (Neoseeker, BAU, MLP Forums, UK of Equestria) will still exist, but primarily for discussion of the particular relevant subteam. I'll still be monitoring all of them and giving help/advice where needed, but it is advised that anyone looking for help use the official forums, as it'll get a far greater response.
  12. Added. Sorry for the delay, I was out all weekend at a meetup. PPD doesn't change in-client when you've got a passkey set up. Bonus points are only applied on Stanford's end. Not sure what your issue with Core_15 is though. Try downloading the file manually and putting it in the same directory as Core_a4.fah?
  13. I don't know, but (s)he emailed me a few days ago to verify the subteam stats. I'm 99.5% sure they're running a GTX 680, set up to get beta WUs. Whoo! Time to rake in the bonus points.
  14. Could be either one. Clearly running the beta flag isn't hurting, so you might as well just leave it on just in case they didn't have any 8057 WUs when you requested one.
  15. I'm fairly certain it's only 400 and up, but you can try with a GTX 260 if you want. Can't hurt to try! Make sure to report back on whether or not it gets beta WUs though, so I can add that to the guide.
  16. I'm not sure if a 5000M will get the beta 8057 WUs, but I don't know anyone who actually runs one, so you might as well try! Make sure to report any results ^^ That'd be great! Obviously not everyone would make use of that, but users do get to pick what prizes they want, so if an MLP Forums user wins, they can pick the subscription, so it'll all work out nicely! When it comes closer to the contest we can work out the exact details.
  17. First off, for users folding on nVidia GPUs, this is important. If you're not using nVidia hardware, skip past this quote: (Thanks to murky from [H]ard|OCP for creating the guide) And now that's taken care, of here's an announcement: The Brony@Home folding competition is set to start on January 1, 2013. For those who don't know of the folding competition, it's basically this: you fold for 2 months, and then get prizes. We haven't worked out exactly how we're going to distribute the prizes yet, but generally the biggest returners get a third of the prizes, people who folded consistently get a third of the prizes*, and then random participants get a third of the prizes. The second is a bit different from the third in that getting more points gives you more of a chance, but people who don't have powerful rigs still have a chance of winning. The prizes are actually really good, in our last folding competition we had several high quality plushies, over $150 of Steam games, a $50 WeLoveFine voucher, engraved Zippo lighters, and custom artwork from very high-quality artists. The plushies were particularly awesome: The problem is that we need prizes for the upcoming competition. If you have some spare cash, or have some talent or skill that you could use to create a prize for the folding competition, that would be IMMENSELY appreciated. If you're interested in donating a prize for the competition, just contact me via some method (PM, email (sellyme@anypony.com), reply in this thread, #broniesau IRC, or #foldingismagic on the Canternet IRC server), and I'll get things sorted out. If you can't donate anything for the folding competition, simply folding is still a great contribution, and is just as necessary: without people folding we'd have no-one to give the prizes to! So yeah, the competition begins in a bit under a month. Exact details still haven't been published (we need a rough idea of how many prizes we have to give out first), but I'll make sure to post any relevant info here for you guys.
  18. Sorry, I broke the script when I reorganised the team lists. Will be fixed on the next update. Passkeys can give you a HUGE amount of extra points, and they prevent someone from using your username to cheat and getting you banned.
  19. Will do! Yesterday the team broke a record for the most points in a day, an astound 1,494,751 points, but I know we can do even better than that! A lot of users here have yet to show up in the stats, too, so we're making a huge progress. @, Lord Bababa (why can't I @mention you?!?) you're now both in my stats, and should be showing up under MLP Forums on the subteams page starting from about... now. @@Meirno, you're yet to show up in my stats. Is F@H still running fine for you? Could just be a very large Work Unit. ...what the hell, I have more than 0 characters in this post:
  20. The information that's important is how much more electricity a computer running at 100% (with monitors off during idle time) uses minus the electicity cost of a computer running at normal load for a moderately heavy user. I compared this to the electricity cost of an average fridge. What you were comparing was the entire computer, which would be far more electricity. I think you're over-estimating the abundance of energy efficient appliances.
  21. Why isn't it a contest? The more we compete with each other, the quicker we solve cancer. There's nothing wrong with trying to be at the top.@@Jeolf, sorry, my message was a bit misleading. I was referring to the increased electricity usage compared to general heavy use. It's no use comparing 100% usage to never actually using your computer, because the latter is a purely hypothetical situation, and not one that's relevant.
  22. Try living with three small children and a baby. Computers are not loud :| That's more understandable. Have you tried just asking them nicely not to? As long as you turn your monitors off when you're not using them, even a computer running at 100% 24/7 uses minimal electricity (orders of magnitudes less than something like a fridge), which is presumably your parents' concern.
  23. As a general guide, desktop CPUs can go up to 80°C and GPUs up to 90°C without any real risk of damage. Desktop APUs should stay at under 75°C, though. Laptops can be pushed up to 100°C without any real issues; and if the design has a lower maximum temperature it'll shut off automatically at that temperature, so there's no need to worry there. But as a rule, if your temps are getting high, you should check your CPU/GPU's maximum temperature on the internet to be sure. That would explain it. If your computer doesn't encounter any issues after a day or two of folding, then it's stable, it'll be perfectly fine to run 24/7, nothing will require intervention. I'm not sure what you really expect to happen, but it's not like your heatsink is just going to fall off and your CPU temp shoot up to 150°C. Yep. I still don't understand why 100 characters is even necessary, especially if the system has such a dehabilitating bug :/
  24. It's definitely alright! The Q6600s are actually really good processors for folding, and while it certainly won't match up to an i7, it's certainly worth running.
  25. At 19k PPD you're still one of the top 20 points returners, which is pretty impressive out of over 600 users Oh man, I'd kill for a 6990. I'm running off of the GPU in my A8-3780K, and really want a dedicated one, but I have absolutely no money, and need to save up for PonyCon AU.
