How do you accept where the show went?
crazitaco replied to Ducky's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
1. A dynamic character is simply a character that changes (be it good or bad change). Twilight has indeed changed. A deep character does not have to change, they just have to be well developed or well thought out from many different angles. These two things go hand in hand, but are not the same. 2. They haven't completely gotten over these things, otherwise they wouldn't still show occasional moments of them. Fluttershy apparently still has rage issues considering she went hulk in power ponies. Rainbow Dash has less of an ego, but its still there. Pinkie still freaks out when she feels unloved. Applejack still has struggles basically being the leader of the family. 3. That's the only believable part of her. The rest of her is the pony equivalent of Jesus. And its hardly a downside, seeing as even Jesus worried about stuff. She's never in the wrong. 4. Two years is enough time to work out maybe a few issues at most. So within two years she's completely gotten rid of pretty much all the bad things about her. Other than the worrying (which has been justified a couple times in the past when her hunches turned out to be right) what other problems does she have? They keep addressing her worrying/insecurity problem constantly and she still hasn't learned her lesson yet. Why does she keep relearning this lesson when all the other times it took her one episode max? And when she does finally get rid of her worrying problem, will she be 100% perfect? 5. Okay, let me rephrase it then. The writers are over emphasizing her humility. They had her being humble in Trixies' first appearance, and it made sense because it was part of the moral. But this season, good lord. How many times do we need to be reminded that she doesn't think she's better than everypony else? They must've said it like 5 times. 6. Okay....I was sorta kidding with that one to be honest. But still, I want to see what she's like completely separate from the rest of the cast. We need to have a real moment with her, that shows more insight into her "depth." They always show the inside of the other mane six's heads, so why not Twilight? I would love to see some more flaws in her. But until then, my opinion of her still stands. -

What is depth, exactly? Depth is a pretty subjective thing, and I don't find that she's that deep. Twilight is a dynamic character, sure, but that doesn't make her deep. She's exactly what she is on the front cover; there's hardly any hidden traits in her. Compare her to the rest of the mane 6 for example. Pinkie clearly has insecurities hidden behind her constant smile. Rarity, a pony born into a painfully average ponyville family, adopted a fake posh accent and mannerisms to the point that its ingrained in her (like Gatsby from The Great Gatsby). Fluttershy's got unexpressed rage issues. Applejack has basically had to grow up immediately and take charge of the family and farm in the abscence of her parents. Rainbow Dash's strong ego hides her insecurities. Character depth is supposed to make a character feel more real and believable. What is believable about Twilight's personality? She's too admirable, too humble, too nice, and basically her only "flaw" is worrying that she's not perfect enough even though everyone around her has to constantly remind her that she is. It vaguely reminds me of girls on facebook who whine that they aren't pretty when they clearly are... The writers decided to make Twilight ridiculously humble, otherwise they'd risk her becoming unlikable. I actually would've found her to be a lot "deeper" if they didn't decide to go that route. Maybe if they showed a glimpse of her checking her sexay princess wings out in the mirror or something like that. That would both be humorous and hint to the audience that "maybe" there's a part of Twilight that does secretly indulge in a smidgeon of pride, and that there's nothing wrong with it. Besides who wouldn't have a smidgeon of pride? Even the most humble people must know that they're humble. I want to see what she's really like when no one's looking. Another thing, about character development. Characters are supposed to develop slowly. No one in real life just learns from all their mistakes immediately, otherwise everyone would be flawless. Hell, most people don't change at all. Personalities generally resist change, and so people DO have to repeat the same life lessons over and over again. I loved that Fluttershy didn't outright conquer her fear of stage fright in one episode, she may be less afraid now but still taking baby steps. That was good characterization. So what's up with Twilight? She's fixed all her issues within the span of single episodes and is a fully explored character. I have no clue who the hell Joe Quesada is, nor do I care. I only continue to argue this topic because I want to prove that I DO have my own valid, strongly thought out reasons for not liking Twilight as a princess. I've seen too many people reject other people's views and label them as mindless hate. My opinion is just as valid as yours, and there's nothing wrong with not liking where the show has gone. Maybe you're right about one thing though, I haven't really given her much of a chance. If I want to regain respect for Twilight, I need to find a way to appreciate her character in a different light, different from how i used to appreciate her. I actually do want to like Twilight again, any suggestions? -
Hehe, yeah sorry if I came off as harsh. I was offended but not actually angry at you Seriously though, I don't think I know anyone who hates someone just for having a foreign accent. That seems so ridiculous to me, considering that America itself is a mix other cultures from around the world. *basks in Rarity's fabulosity*

I love Rarity! It's mostly because I find her to be very funny. Her voice actor is so superb that she makes everything that comes out of Rarity's mouth sound amusing. And I love that she is a character with creative vision, which is something I can relate to with her. Rarity also seems to have quite a bit of depth to her character. Clearly the accent she speaks with is not one she should have. She's from ponyville but dreams of far bigger things. And not only does she dream big, she actually tries with all her might to accomplish those dreams and is often successful. She does get caught up in vanity and fame, but it's understandable why given how hard she's worked to get herself where she is . And she always manages to pick friendship over her own dreams. That's where her true generosity lies. Excuse me, did you just try to generalize Americans as hating accents??? Wat? You better BELIEVE we'll come after you after making such claims. You used the word many. Most Americans do not hate accents. You clearly don't know us, so please don't make up such lies.Americans adore accents, we can't get enough of them. Especially English accents, I know a ton of people who consider them sexy.

How do you accept where the show went?

So you agree then, she HAS changed her personality. I don't like the changes because I think they make her less interesting/fun. I just don't enjoy seeing her try to be perfect. That is my personal opinion, and I rest my case. Edit: Another thing, the "dorkyness" or booksmartness is merely ONE aspect of her personality, not her whole personality. I have noticed these occasional moments like those you pointed out and rejoiced at them because they reminded me of old school twilight that I did love. But still, think about how often moments like these actually occur. Its like the writers merely throw them in as if to say "Oh yeah we almost forgot, look how much she's still the same!" These moments never had to be inserted into the story to keep her interesting, they would just happen under natural circumstances. -

Gah, I written this before and did a way better job. In my rant on a different topic, I highlighted all the ways that her personality has changed over time. It was way more detailed, but I'll give a brief summary. Twilight Sparkle is being written as above the average character. In the beginning seasons, she was not above being used for physical comedy, such as the episode pinkie keen where she gets random objects like boxes and pianos dropped on her head. Or when she freaks out over a snake. Let me ask you this, can you ever see them doing something like the piano dropping schtick thing with Twilight ever again as a princess? Would it have the same effect as it did before, seeing her in a body cast and all pissy? I don't think they ever will do something like that again, because it would ruin the air of "regality" that they've been trying to build up on her character. She was also a lot more snarky, and I really miss that aspect of her personality. Remember her when she called the elements of harmony "necklace, necklace, and BIG CROWN THINGIE!" and called her friends jerks? She used to have much more attitude. Her snarkiness is quite rare now. Even her tone of voice when speaking is more like the way Celestia speaks. She speaks to the girls in a motherly tone almost, and talks very gently like Celestia. Her personality has been becoming more like that of Celestia's, and Celestia is rather flat and boring. I don't want to see Twilight become flat and boring like Celestia. I want the fun Twilight back, not the one who has to be a perfect role model at all times. -
I've gone to a few funerals before, I try really hard to hold back but sometimes can't. I hate crying in front of other people, so if I cry I usually avoid people's gazes. I don't even have to know the deceased person well, if my family or friends are mourning, their sadness is toxic enough to affect me as well. The entire atmosphere during the funeral affects me very strongly. To be honest, I haven't lost a person close to me yet. I don't know how I'll react when I do. I've mourned for lost pets, which probably isn't even comparable to the death of a human I loved.

When I was really little, I wanted to be a paleontologist because I was fascinated by fossils and dinosaurs. As I got a little older, I wanted to be a veterinarian because I loved animals, but changed my mind because sick/dying animals break my heart too much. As a teen, I wanted to be a marine biologist because I find ocean life fascinating. Now I'm majoring in art, because I want to do something I know I can be good at. Not sure if I want to be an animator, tattoo artist, or art teacher.

Nope, still haven't accepted the new paradigm of Princess Twilight. I think people are too blind to realize that her personality HAS been changing, and she's not really the character that I fell in love with at the start of the series. However, despite the fact that I don't really like her, I still enjoy the other ponies too much for her to bother me that badly. To be honest, I just don't like alicorns because I hate the concept of royalty -

If offered a drink, would you take it?
crazitaco replied to Discordian's topic in General Discussion
My mom gets them all the time. And she almost always offers me a taste when no one's looking (because my mom is awesome like that) They're usually delicious, pretty sure they will end up being my favorite alchoholic drinks. -

I've only got half a year before I'm of legal drinking age, so let's assume i'm already legal. Random stranger offering me a drink? Decline! Someone I know offering me a drink? Depends on who they are. If they're not someone I know well, its still probably no! Also, I plan to only drink things if I enjoy drinking them. If they offer me alchohol that makes me wanna chop off my own tongue, hell no! I only want that yummy fruity stuff that they serve in the cute glasses with pieces of fruit in them and with a the little umbrella. So cute! -
I'm somewhat of a misanthrope myself (depending on my mood), but when you say you have a "hideous appearance" I'm certain that you're not as hideous as you think you are. And even if you were hideous, fuck anyone who cares so much about your appearance. Others shouldn't hate you for your "hideous appearance" and neither should you. If you are actually hideous looking, embrace your hideousness. Make it clear to the world that being hideous does not have to impact who you are. And dear OP, unpleasantness has always existed and will continue to exist. Its a part of life. Not everyone is happy all the time, and not everyone has reason to be happy. You can't just tell people to stop being miserable and start being happy. And telling them to stop being sad so you can be happy is selfish, which ironically makes me angry. Instead of complaining to negative people that their negativity cramps your style, why don't you try reaching out and helping them out of their misery? They might just need to vent their frustrations for a bit. Maybe they just want someone willing to listen to them. Or if they are beyond your ability to help, just leave them be.
