Nerzhei
By Blitz Boom
Age: 436
Gender: Female
Species: Non-Pony
Appearance:
Nerzhei is a dragon scholar, roughly the size of a tall human. She is a baseyellow/orange with scattered purple spots here and there, and purple stripes on her back and tail.

She haves no hair, but the lines of short, mostly-laid-back red spikes makes it appear as if she haves slicked back hair. The spikes goes into a single line as it goes further down her back and tail, and they sometimes raise if she gets angry.

She doesn't have horns, and much like Dragon Lord Ember, her mouth is a little long in it - though not as long and thin as Ember - with smaller, more fitting teeth instead of ones that are too large to comfortably rest inside her mouth. They are still plenty big enough though, and gets to their right if she snarls at someone.

Nerzhei also have large wings, as many other dragons do, which makes it a bother to wear the clothes that she does at times, but she lives with it.

She tends to carry a shirt, small jacket and pair of pants made from crude cloth and leather, though she wants something more fitting eventually. This was simply all shew had to work with that gave her the option of pockets.

She also tends to carry around a large, worn bag down her right side with books and assorted other things, and a spear on her back. She haves a spear at home too, but she doesn't carry it near towns normally for various reasons.

Cutie Mark:
None. She's a dragon.

Personality:
Depends on who she talks with, but overall she is a fine one to talk to if you don't meet her with hostile remarks or try to bully her. She is a scholar though, and prefers to speak with beings of equal to greater intellect and curiosity as herself.

She won't usually smile at others initially, as she doesn't expect them to do that either, but there are exceptions of course. Depending on her mood, and who she's meeting up with.

Nerzhei is quick to anger if needed, but she doesn't get lost in rage. She keeps her focus and direction through it, which makes it troublesome to be at the wrong side of it to say the least. It is better not to try and get on her bad side if it can be avoided.

Backstory:
Ever since she was a little whelp, Nerzhei have felt herself being surrounded by simpletons and short-sighted fools.

Her parents wanted a fighter, and instead getting a daughter that would rather lift a pen than a blade didn't sit well with them, even if she did participate in fights now and again. Her heart was just never in it, and she much rather wanted to use her spare time becoming smarter, rather than full of bruises, so she kept it limited to when she had to or needed to let off some steam.

If it came down to it, she could deal out a good fight though. She were large for her age, and with the anger she felt at the disappointed looks and words from her parents, her brothers and the laughter from others around her, she tended to lash out rather than just take all of it, which gave her chances to hone her skills a little by little. At last after she had learned to control her anger better and not just go at them like a frothing wild boar.

Yet, she didn't care much for it. The books carried much more to her than being one of them, and being the black sheep of the family didn't matter to her. Especially not because her studying and mental prowess over most others where she grew up with, meant that she had good control of magic much earlier than they. Or well, those that did have magic anyway.

Like with ponies, it wasn't all that had this gift, though unlike them, you couldn't see it by a big horn in the forehead. Dragon signs were more subtle that that, to a point where it were hard for even most dragons to be sure before it was too late.

Her training and perfecting of skills in the geomancy that fell natural to her, made her someone that eventually, few others wanted to fight against out of fear that the ground would rise beneath them and slam them down. She could have gone further and perhaps have gotten over others older than her by focusing solely on magic and physical training, but she didn't want it. She just wanted to be strong enough to fend for herself.

Eventually, as she got to her twenty-second year, she left the town she grew up in in the middle of the night. She didn't say anything to anyone, but it didn't matter either. She hadn't any friends and her family didn't want her around - which were even clearer by the lengths they had taken in separating her from their lives the last few years - so there wouldn't be any problems with it. Frankly, far as she were concerned, this way they all won. They got her away for good, and she finally got some peace.

Time passed and eventually, she started to join minor dragon camps here and there, wanting to get away from the loneliness a little. Yet, in every place she settled she were a ridiculed outcast. unless she made them fear her, in which case the ridicule stopped, but not much else.

It took centuries before she finally found a place to settle down that was somewhat tolerable. One of the leaders of the camp - which were one of several that had been set to keep unauthorized people out of a valley - saw a need to have someone there with half a brain that could help bolster their magical defenses, and they agreed that she were left alone and got the peace for her study she needed - though within the safety of their camp - and in return, she'd spent some of her research time for the camps best interests.

She had given up on interacting with anyone with too much between their ears for a long time at that point, so she just agreed to it so that she'd at least get her peace. Plus, this agreement also kept her new pet from being harmed. A pink bunny named Lotus, that she had bought off a vendor when it was barely old enough to see, that he had gotten somewhere in or near Equestria.

Two years more passed before their security one day got breached, and some of the trinkets she had made to detect abnormal magic started ringing and eventually led her to a trio of ponies that had gotten there through a poorly-made teleportation spell.

She had never seen ponies before, and initially was neither impressed nor very happy to see them, but as she led them towards the camp and discovered that one of them were actually a smart one worth talking with, she began to feel better than she had in years, sharing small tidbits about herself and some of what she were researching, which were finally met with someone who seemed to understand what she were on about.

Still, as she got back to camp and got the ponies towards the trio of *elders* that controlled the large camp, she remembered not to try and get attached. They'd be gone soon, and she'd still be here, doing her research, so it weren't smart to get too close.

At least, that was what she had expected, before being told that since her trinkets had helped detect these, they had gotten out of their deal with her what they needed, and ordered her to escort the ponies to the Equestrian border and find somewhere else to go.

To say that she were furious was an understatement, but after some bickering between her and the elders, she eventually went back to her tent at the edge of the camp, packed the stuff that wasn't made for this place, and left with the ponies. Not before she had encased the things the dragons needed in thick, spiky rocks though. A parting *gift* she felt they deserved.

The way to Equestria were long, but as they reached the border after spending days with the talkative and friendly - sometimes a little too much for her taste - ponies, she didn't stop.

On the way they had talked about Equestria in big terms, and of how they promoted knowledge rather than suppress it. A clear difference from most of the places she had ever been, and the words had intrigued her as time had passed.

She were used to being an outsider, so that wasn't much of a difference, and if she could finally begin to get some proper research done by following them into that country, and away from her own... It were a prospect of a better future than she had thus far, and she took the chance when it arrived.

After following the ponies back towards a town called Ponyville, she stopped before she got into view of town and waved them off, before going out to find someplace she could make into a suitable living space, and after a few days found a good spot near clear water that wasn't pestered by timberwolves and other such things constantly.

Or well, they learned the hard way to leave her alone. Still counted.

She have barely gotten her home made, and sustains herself with what she catches and harvests in the forest, though the time to go and interact with the ponies in the town draws near. The ones she brought here knows where she is, and she speaks with them on occasion, but beyond that, she haven't been in contact with others for a few weeks.

But, it is time for things to change. She seeks more books, materials and supplies other than what she haves access to right now, and though she can't imagine it will go well the first time she goes there, she still knows that she must enter Ponyville, and begin to establish her presence here.

She doesn't really fear what could happen though. What'd be the worst they could do to her after all? Attack her? Shun her? Scream in terror and call for help? She had tried it all and worse, so to her, it wasn't like it could get worse than the miserable years before this.

At worst, it'd just be a new flavor of the same thing.
