Satin Wing
By Lil' Lovebug
Age: 25
Gender: Female
Species: Non-Pony
Appearance: A changeling with long, dark purple hair that drapes just below the neck, usually tied up in a bun or ponytail. Long tail that tapers of just an inch or two above the ground. Her size is about midway between that of a drone and that of Chrysalis.

Satin is usually found wearing a silver necklace adorned with a black quill pendant and a long, close fitting dress, usually in some shade of purple, red, black, and white with heels to match. She wears a moderate amount of makeup to compliment the outfit she's wearing.
Personality: Though she may come off as snobby and disinterested upon first meeting her, Satin is caring and down-to-earth, when you get to know her. She carries herself as on of the Elites of Canterlot, making sure to always look her best and act sophisticated, but unlike most upper class ponies, she tries to care for everyone, be they well off or living bit to bit.

She will go out of her way to help someone who can't quite provide for themselves, but only as long as she know's that they're trying to provide for themselves first. She understands when ponies are down on luck, unable to find jobs, but always trying to get one, but shows disdain towards ponies who won't even try to better themselves.

She can be rather short-tempered, verbally attacking ponies who would look down on someone else due to their class or appearance. This leads to her being shunned from some of the inner-circles of the Elite, but she'd rather not associate with someone who would judge someone because of such petty things. She tries to contain her anger (though usually unsuccessfully), and will try to make amends with anyone who she has a fight with, but only if they are willing to try and better themselves and look past appearances and class.

Satin is constantly working to try and fit in and be accepted into society. She prefers not to hide her true form, but feels like ponies shrink back from her, seeing her as alien, even those she tries to help. She has a couple of close friends who are okay with her, but she feels like most ponies see her more as an oddity than an individual. She wonders how many people go to her shows for her music rather than to see the "strange creature who does things with her wings."

She has a preference for upper-class living, having grown accustomed to it over the years, but is a sucker for rustic home-cooking and relaxing in a cozy home with friends.
Backstory: Sent from her Hive to harvest at a young age (around 13 in human years), Satin was quickly consumed and lost in an unknown world. She hid along the outskirts of towns or in dark alleys near popular places like restaurants, markets, or schools, trying to siphon what love she could. She eventually made her way to Canterlot, where she skulked around, trying to learn about the various ways of life present throughout the city, not bothering to try and disguise herself.

One evening, while sneaking through the higher class districts, Satin came across a brown, unicorn colt with a black quill for a cutie mark, curled up and crying. She tentatively sat next to him and asked him what was wrong. When he looked up and saw her, he ran away, calling her a monster. She cried through the afternoon, finally falling asleep. When she woke up, the colt was there, having waited for her to wake up. He apologized to her, sorry that he had over reacted at the fact that she was different.

As they got to know each other, they decided to meet up in the alley to talk. Ink Quill, who wasn't much older than Satin, was the son of two of Canterlot's most prestigious artists, his father, a pegasus and a famous writer, and his mother, a unicorn and a composer and violinist. Ink was learning yo become a poet, inspired by the melodies of his mother and the words of his father.

Weeks went by, and finally, Ink told Satin that he was dying of an incurable disease. She offered to replace him to feed on his parent's love. After a couple of weeks of thought, he agreed and to the swap. Ink asked his parents if he could stay in a cabin during his last days, and when they agreed, he snuck Satin in with him, setting up a bed in the closet of his room for her to stay.

Day by day, Satin read Ink's memories and practiced acting as he would. They'd sneak out at night to the white weeping cherry not too far from the cottage. Satin buzzed her wings freely, happy to be outside. The melody caught Ink off-guard, and upon telling her how sweet it sounded, Satin started coming up with songs to play with her wings.

Eventually, Ink became too sick so Satin took his place while ink rested in the closet bed, slowly convincing her new family she was getting healthier. Upon his death, Satin snuck him outside and buried him under the tree, marking his place with a quill, reminiscent of his cutie mark. She played him on last song with her wings, before laying there for hours, sobbing. The next day, she began her full life as Ink Quill.

Years later, just before a now grown up Satin moved out, her parents came to her, telling her they needed to talk. They revealed that they'd known about her true form for almost a year, having found a letter from Ink apologizing to them for tricking them, and, rather than be mad, they thanked her for giving them a few more years. They told her that no matter what form she took, they'd call her their daughter.

Now, Satin Wing works as a musician, using her wings to wow ponies at concerts, her adoptive family supporting her, her mother sometimes helping her write songs or playing beside her. Her spare time includes trips to bars, going to be with friends, and the occasional poem under a white weeping cherry.
