By Blitz Boom

Appearance:
As can be seen in the picture, but know that underneath the clothing, the markings are also present here and there.

And yes, her ears flickers like actual flames, though it doesn't affect her hearing.

Cutie Mark:
A lit candle, held by a skeletal hoof. It signifies her talent to lead the lost souls onwards.

Personality:
Sly, mostly calm and at times, a little teasing.

Being what she is, few things can actually scare her, though things can make her cranky, so her mood mostly stays in calm, but with undertones of interested, bored, etc.

Backstory:
Vivid Loss have gotten through a few stages i her life which have led to how she is now.

Back in the olden days, when she were born, she were simply a normal pony like most others, though death decided to follow her even before she had been fully brought into this world by having her mother pass away halfway through the process, and herself nearly succumbing to the clutches of death herself.

She managed to survive, and was raised by her father until he eventually left town during the night, leaving his then 10 year old daughter behind after not being able to handle what was happening with her anymore.

It was not that Vivid were violent or otherwise a bad foal, but rather her father was starting to get scared of her talents. To hear and see the restless dead wandering amongst them here and there, and dealing with her mixture of being scared and trying to help them move on.

The locals knew that she wasn't just making things up. They had lost some that had spoken via Vivid to ease their minds now and again before they would pass on, though much like her father, they didn't think themselves able to handle this in the longer run, and she was left mostly to fend for herself.

She was brought food now and again so she could survive, and she still had the dead to speak to, so she wasn't entirely without supervision or friends, yet beyond those she mostly gre up lonely.

As time went by, she started to think that she were appreciated by the others in the town. Foals she had sometimes played with as a foal still hung around with her from time to time, and everypony were still nice to her, so she didn't think that there were a real problem, nor that they didn't like having her around. That is, until the Shaman moved into town...

The Shamans of her age often spoke with the ancestors to bring guidance amongst their other talents, and were highly regarded because of it, yet it also led to some unicorns just pretending since hey, who could prove them wrong? Nopony could actually see the dead after all unless they were a Shaman, and few were the times when more than one were anywhere near the same town.

Vivid called his bluff with ease, but the others didn't believe her. They saw some of the tricks the unicorn could, believed that he were genuine even though she could see that no spirit energy of any kind were near him, and at his command, chased her out of town like it was nothing.

It had hurt her greatly when they had turned their backs on her, just like her father had, but she managed to keep a smile on her face though the tears rolled in thick lines down her cheeks because she could still hear the longing call of those who wanted her there. The dead who had only left her when she had helped them move on, and had given her guidance through much of her life.

Because of them, she managed to keep her chin high and get through life a little by little, growing stronger from harvesting the excess energy that sometimes kept souls chained to this world.

Though the next 80 years she would be run out of places or move on by herself before it could happen, never attaching herself to anypony for long and making the roads her home as her purpose drove her near and far through the world, though as the years passed she also grew increasingly concerned.

having been aound death for all of her life, and feeling that her own would not last much longer, it did not bring her solace to think that there was a life afterwards. Frankly, it simply scared her to think that she would soon go to somewhere unknown like those she sent on, or linger in this world in miserable pain until somepony else could come along and fix things.

She didn't want to die, and after much prayer and time, when her heart were slowing down and the end drawing near made her desperate, an option presented itself to her.

Not just gods heard prayers after all, and hers had drawn the interest of three demons that had bidded their time until she were desperate enough to try anything, then gave her an offer: Sell parts of her soul to each of them, and in return she would gain a boon she wanted from each of them.

From the first she got immortality. A path that would steer her away from death's grip, though she were still old and feeble.

The second then gave her youth, peeling her age from her bones and setting her as if she were her healthy, 20 year old, pretty self again.

From the third came power, inscribed into her being and showing in the pulsating symbols on her body. The power to dip into the veil and make use of the unformed magic to do tremendous things, and wander where its tendrils had sprung.

Unbeknownst to her however, her soul wasn't all the demons wanted. Hidden in their contracts were that whilst they would not take the parts of her soul she had sold yet, until the day came when they would she were bound in service to them, only ending when her usefulness did, which would be the time they would collect their ultimate price.

Trapped under the binding contracts, Vivid did many things over the years she is not overly proud of, nor would have been her own choice to begin with if she could still choose, though as time went by she became used to the violence she was sometimes called in to do and various other things she were to do for them. In a way, she even began to enjoy the harsh acts they ordered her towards as the years became centuries.

The demonic influence did not just pollute her mind like this, but also her body. Where her coat had once been grey with swirls of blue it instead grew a reddish tone, her mane went from a mixture of blue and yellow to a darker, blueish colour and grew long down the sides of her head. Her tail went from short and bushy to scaly and demonic, whilst her eyes went from fully open and blue, to her narrowing the now red eyes, which with her new smile just fitted the face beneath the longer, sharper horn, of somepony sly and somewhat toying.

As she grew into this though, her body started to freeze too. A few centuries in she could not wander the normal realm without feeling a chill, and near the end she had gotten to the point of draping herself in clothes made from the very veil her magic had its roots in.

The cold that kept the demons mostly from their world was the same reason she had a usage as long as she could still wander the lands, as her masters would then not feel themselves literally freezing to death, and when the time came when she could not stand being there no matter what she did, it would be time for them to collect.

It didn't get that far.

1100 years ago, the demons felt themselves arrogantly sure that they could force the lord of chaos, Discord, to change the way Equestria's temperatures worked so they could get a foothold in that world, and sent Vivid to deal with him.

They had sorely underestimated what Discord could do. After toying around with Vivid for a bit, he grew annoyed with her and had her locked away deep in a deserted part of the Crystal Kingdom encased in unbreakable crystal to learn her master a lesson that you didn't try to force the lord of chaos to do anything.

Vivid were powerless to do anything in her prison. Even after Discord were defeated and turned to stone, the crystal encasing her stayed, leaving her trapped for days, years, eventually centuries.

3100 years passed, and eventually, Princess Cadence and Shinning Armor, inspecting the lands of the Crystal Empire after the fall of Sombra, found her.

At first they were not sure what to do. They had unwillingly crushed the crystal she was encased in and had set her free, but they couldn't just let somepony like her leave.

Not that Vivid wanted to either. She wanted answers. To how long she had been there, who they were, and most importantly: Why she couldn't feel the chains on her soul anymore. Though more than that, she were too tired to do anything.

Standing in the same position for that long, it didn't matter if she had slept through most of that time, she were still not properly rested, and had it not been for her power, and what energy was part of her being, she would more than likely have been a shrivelled husk.

The royal couple couldn't answer many of the things she asked, though Vivid could answer many of theirs. Eventually, sensing that she'd more than likely never get away if she tried to escape, Vivid offered the pair a deal. A full contract, on mostly their terms, making her go into service of them instead of the demons who oddly enough didn't have hold in her anymore, and in return she would be free.

It took a good deal of time to make the contract right, though it helped that Vivid only bargained for few things for herslf and agreed to most of their terms, and in the end the contract was made, written in blood and lasting until the day that her, or both of them were dead.

Under her new contract, she could not bring harm unless it were to protect, she would continue her role with leading souls onwards to the next life, and she would be there if they called for her services in one fashion or another. More points were part of the contract, of course, but this was the base of things.

In the two months she have been free now, Vivid have learned a few things of what have happened in her absence. Talking with other demon, she found that her former masters had thought her dead after two centuries of being unable to contact or find her, and as time had gone by they had themselves died to random infighting with other, more powerful beings, making their grasp on her soul null and void, though what they had inscribed into her would keep lasting.

It annoys her some to know this, as it means that she owes Discord a favour instead of her hatred for trapping her for this long, but she is prepared to bite in the sour apple if the time comes when she meets him again and let him know that she owes him.

She now travels Equestria and beyond, looking for both new experiences, things to do, souls to assist passing over and more than anything, a magic user with much knowledge.

it is what have drawn her towards Twilight Sparkle, after her brother let it slip that she collected many books, amongst them some rather powerful spells. For this reason, she have set her sight towards the smallish town of Ponyville and the area around it, wandering in with a job to do, but also her own agenda. Though, what it will take to make Twilight listen to her is anyponies guess.

Not that it matters, they both have all the time in the world to get this done, so she she might as well have herself a little fun until the time is right. Be it in a day or a millennia, only time will truly tell.
