Soldiers of the Night PMV

Some of you may have heard the collab of SylphStar, Forest Rain, and Midnight Melody (An amazing combo in my opinion). 

Obviously the song was absolutely amazing check it out:

Yay for sharp footage and song choice! It's so nice to see a video without watermarks.

 

I did notice a pitfall here, though, that is pretty common to new PMVers. I like to call it "Leave the Camera Running Syndrome". The show footage might be great and fit what you're saying --- but it's very rare that you'll want to take a whole scene unedited and put it into a video! There's always a way to sync up the timing a little more, or to cut off some talking in the middle of an action sequence, or whatever to make it a more exciting experience. After all, that's why you're there with the video editing program. 

 

An example of a PMV that does this very well is

 

 

It's literally just retelling Twilight's character arc. Heck, a lot of it is made up of plot summaries of the season opener and closers! But it matches the whole story to music so deliberately that it makes for an entirely different experience than rewatching the episodes (not to mention shorter).

 

Actually, that's a good excerise. Find some music, take an episode, and disect it to the beat. This will train you in looking at the show clips... and changing them to suit your needs.    You don't even need to post the results; it's just for your own personal benefit, really.

 

Back to your video, another thing I noticed and liked was your use of widescreen and contrast effects at at 3:48. They looked professional, were used at a good time, and didn't contrast with the visual style of the rest of the video. Or, in other words, everything effects should be doing.

So, yeah, have a monster post that you probably weren't expecting. Hopefully that didn't scare you away from making more videos!

Thank you! I'm a total amateur when it comes to working with any kind of video editing or making PMV's so critiques are what I'm after! And I would agree with you about leaving an unedited scene in, although it seems perfect in editing, it looks sloppy/takes something away from the video in presentation. BTW Amazing PMV, can't believe how well everything flowed and how perfect the transitions between clips are, transitions will be the death of me. And if anything you've motivated me to start another project right away in an attempt to improve my editing.
