I don't think its unacceptable to buy "knock offs". I think there are many reasons to do so.

 

I think many people are of the opinion that fan made pony merch is better that official stuff. I know that I personally find that fan made plushies far exceed official ones (at least until all those 4DE plushies come out) . So they get mad when that stuff gets C&D'd because it means they cant buy those things anymore. Whats more, I think some people see it as artistic censorship, which would be a much more angering thing. I don't hold that opinion myself because MLP ultimately belongs to Hasbro and they can do what they want with it, but there it is.
