Sun found Anala sort of pleasant when she was nice for once. He couldn't stand her when she was her trickster self.

Anala rolled her eyes. "So the first thing you saw me doing was having my friend buy me lunch because, on a rare occasion, I wanted to go cheapskate. Big whoop. It's not as if I do that all the time!" she said. "Also, I don't see what business it was of yours to interfere with."

"I'm a cop. My job is to keep everypony safe. A peacekeeper if you will. Taking advantage of somepony who is hopelessly in love with you is wrong, in every town, city or county..."

 

Sun sat down on a small crate and looked down, a bit sad.

 

"I was hopelessly in love once... But when she used that against me for her own personal gain, I was heartbroken. I couldn't see it happen to somepony else too..."

Anala sighed. She broke eye contact with Sun slightly. "Listen... let me tell you a story."

 

"Back when I was just a foal, my parents hated each other. Whenever they were around each other, they were screaming and fighting. Not long after I could walk and talk, they got divorced and my mom left, leaving me with my dad and two older brothers."

 

"I was very young, and the belief was firmly planted in my mind that love is just an illusion bound to end in tragedy. So from that moment on, I vowed to never partake in romance of any sort."

 

"A few years later came the day that I met Riley. I enjoyed hanging out with him. He was such a joy to be around. He seemed to have a knack for spreading happiness, and was good at making people feel better without coming off as insensitive."

 

"Soon, it became glaringly obvious. He was in love with me."

 

"I stood by my vow, but I didn't want to break his heart by telling him the truth. So I continued to string him along. Not to hurt his feelings as the term might suggest, but to spare them. I really, really don't want him to give up on love just like I did."

 

She allowed a few tears to roll down her cheeks.

"If you don't want him to give up on love, let him move on. He's going to find out eventually. The longer this goes on, the more hurtful it will be for him. If he finds out later, it will be devastating for him, and he may give up anyway."

 

Sun turned away from Anala to hide a tear fall from his eye.

Anala still had no idea what the best thing to do was. Her feelings were so conflicting, and no matter what she did, there were bound to be some repercussions involved.

 

She decided to diverge from the current topic. "Er... you know what, let's just go see if we can find any beers."

Sun stood up quickly and wiped his eyes.

 

"Eer... Sure... Beers! I doubt there will be any, but look what we've found so far."

 

Sun said, looking at the crates of strange candy and games. The image of Anala had changed, and she was no longer the cruel trickster he once thought she was. Now she was a kind and caring pony with a... Questionable sense of humour.

"Yeah," said Anala. She looked inside the boxes again, and rummaged her hoof around. "Oh, man, jackpot! Final Foaltasy VI!" She put the game in her hat, which she put back on. 

 

"So, Sun..." she began. "Perhaps it's not my place to ask, but... what's the story between you and that mare you mentioned?"

Sun took a big sigh, and then spoke.

 

"We were friends for a long time. We did a lot of things together. I guess eventually my feelings for her grew, and I found myself hopelessly in love. When I confessed my feelings for her, something in her changed. She became cruel, took advantage of me. And then one day, when she drained me of all my money and belongings, she left. I never thought I could trust anyone again."

Anala listened intently to Sun's story, her frown becoming more and more noticeable as the story progressed. "Whoa. Well, I'm... sorry to hear that, Sun," said Anala, putting her hoof on Sun's. "Perhaps this sounds silly coming from me, but... that mare sounds like a real cold-hearted jerk."

"At least the whole concept behind what you are trying to do is good. Her motif was just personal gain. That story has been locked up in here for years."

 

He said, patting his chest.

 

"I've never told anypony that before. A chief detective with such a hard outer shell doesn't break that. Reputation, a lifetime to build and seconds to destroy."

Anala tried to think of what she should say next. "Well... even though Riley and I were complete strangers, you didn't want to let me take advantage of my friend's generosity. So to me, that shows that you really care about doing what's right."

 

"Furthermore, you were willing to look past that and recognise that, despite my self-indulgent mistake, I can be a genuinely good person."

Sun took his hoof out from under Anala's.

 

"So, lets get to finding some beers eh? Of all the crazy crap we've found so far finding alcohol will be the least surprising."

 

He rammed a crowbar into the lid of one of the crates and levered the lid off.

Anala peered into the crate that Sun had wedged open to see that it was indeed filled with cans of beer. "We hit the jackpot!" she stated, taking a can. She opened it and drank up.

 

"I could add some beer holders onto my hat, along with ridiculously long straws that go from the can to my mouth... but I'm not lazy enough to do that."

Sun took a beer out of the crate, and read the side. He focused his attention on the alcohol content.

 

"Ha! The game geeks that worked here must have been lightweights. It's so weak it might as well be flavoured water!"

 

Sun pulled the tab and opened the can with ease, considering the whole hooves thing.

 

"They should really redesign the can idea. It's a good container, it's just difficult to get in to."

 

He said, taking a long swig of the light 'beer'.

Anala took out a can and inspected it until she found the alcohol content label. The same weak number as the one displayed on Sun's can.

 

"You're right. Let's dig deeper and see if we can find anything stronger."

 

She rummaged through the crate until she found a can with a slightly stronger volume.

Sun raised an eyebrow.

 

"I'm only drinking for a social buzz, I don't plan to get ultimately wasted... Then again, this rain hasn't calmed down yet. In fact it's gotten worse. Screw it, I don't have work tomorrow anyways."

 

Sun reached to the bottom and found a bottle filled with clear liquid. He looked for the percentage on the side.

 

"Now this ain't flavoured water. This is fifty percent."

 

He unscrewed the cap and smelt it. He took a long swig and stopped with a long exhale.

Anala couldn't help but chuckle at Sun's "no work tomorrow" cop-out. For a member of the police force, he seemed a bit casual about it.

 

She looked at the alcohol percentage on the can. Fifty percent, just like Sun's.

 

"Perhaps we could make a little competition out of this?" she suggested with a smirk.

Sun looked at her with a confident smile.

 

"A competition eh? Well, what did you have in mind? I'm not going to play beer pong though... Not enough mindless drinking of high alcohol percentage liquids... I need to drink more..."

 

Sun took another swig of the bottle then screwed the cap back on.

Anala smirked her devilish smirk. "It's really quite simple," she said, emptying the crate. "We're going to play a game called 'I never'. We each take it in turns to say something that we've never done, and if the other pony has done that thing, they have to take a sip."

Sun eyed over the cans and bottles then back at Anala.

 

"I see. I have heard of this game before. So what will be our agreed volume to drink every turn? A can? A shot? And who's go will it be first? I suggest ladies first."

 

Sun put his hoof out as a sort of 'after you' gesture towards Anala.

Anala blushed at Sun's acting like a gentlecolt. "I'm gonna say... we take a shot." She rummaged around in a crate, eventually finding some shot glasses. She gave one to Sun and held one herself.

 

She thought for a while before saying, "Never have I ever passed out with my head in the toilet."

"Now then, it looks like I'm not gonna drink this round, for I have never done that either."

 

Sun raised his shot glass slightly and smirked, giving a wink.

 

"But let's see if you will drink this round eh? I have never been beaten in a fight. I expect you haven't either, but lets find out for sure."

Choosing to be honest, Anala drank her shot. "Well... I did get floored once when I got into an argument with another mare. It escalated quickly. I still won the other fights I've gotten into, though."

 

She thought about what she could say. 'Perhaps something to do with my per - oh, wait, Sun is a stallion.'

 

Eventually, she said, "Never have I ever tried to eat ten cookies at once."

Sun raised an eyebrow and smiled widely.

 

"Tried? I succeeded! But, just to make you happy I'll drink..."

 

Sun threw the contents of his shot glass to the back of his throat and swallowed, feeling a burning sensation down his throat. He refilled his glass and looked at Anala.

 

"My turn. I have never pulled a prank on somepony. I just want to see what happens when you're drunk. See if it makes you incredibly civilised, or worse. I'd guess that you become incredibly well mannered and polite."
