"Mmhmm, I patrol Manehattan. I see him on occasion, whether it be in the arcades, or his shop. I did witness him purchase a bouquet of flowers, however after a while he began to sweat and look nervous. After a few minutes he dumped them in the trash and fled. I assume they were for you, but he became very nervous and abandoned the idea."

"I dunno, Sun, maybe they were for his dog. Of course they were for me!" said Anala.

 

"So, this mare who milked you for your money and possessions... is that the only romance you've ever had in your life, or did anything happen before that?" she asked. "Probably the latter. A noble police officer like you, why, I bet you could have just about any mare you wanted!" she said, playfully nudging Sun on the flank.

Sun shrugged.

 

"I... I guess I never really thought about it that way... I've never really allowed attachments to form. She was quite early in my life, and I've shut everypony out since then. I guess I just thought if I don't get close to ponies, I can't be hurt again..."

"That makes sense," stated Anala, nodding.

 

Anala thought that if she continued to enquire about the mare, Sun would become sad, so she decided to divert the current conversational topic to something else. But what else? She shuffled her hooves around as she thought.

Sun could tell that Anala was desperately trying to find something else to say. During interrogations you pick up on these subtle signs of desperation.

 

"Don't worry, I've moved on from her. I've more than tripled my money since then, so she definitely picked the wrong time to leave. I look back at it and laugh."

Anala snickered a bit. "Joke's on her, then. That's good to hear."

 

"Hey, you know what would be even funnier?" she added. "If when she arrived home after dumping you, she discovered that her house had been robbed of all the money and possessions she conned out of you."

 

"And the icing on the cake would be if she then if she called the cops, but she got a reply of, 'I don't like what you did to my friend Sun Stream!', and then the cop on the other end of the line hung up."

"I do not wish for her to come to any misfortune. No matter how much somepony may hurt me, or do me wrong, I never want anything bad to happen to them."

 

Sun pondered as to what he had just said.

 

"I doubt anypony is as forgiving as me. It may take a while to forgive, but I do it in the end."

Anala nodded. "I guess that makes sense."

 

"Does this mean you believe in the phrase 'everypony has some good in them'?" she asked. "Riley certainly does. I remember back in school, he tried to make friends with a bully I'd svaed him from, but the bully felt awkward about it and fled."

"I believe that there is good in everypony, no matter how evil they may be. I also believe that there is evil in everypony, no matter how good they are. Good and evil is a choice, and everypony has a choice."

 

Sun knew himself well. He had witnessed the bad things he had done, and knew that the evil within him was incredibly powerful. At least for now it was locked away inside.

Anala nodded. "Nopony is pure goodness, or pure evil. Everypony is a shade of grey."

 

"I remember a movie I loved when I was a filly, and still do to this day: The Hunchback Of Neightre Dame. The film's antagonist does many things that, by the standards of most people, are considered evil, but he's highly religious, and he does the things he does because he believes he is abiding by the Bible. Which leaves you to ponder... evil, or horribly misguided?"

"I find that most antagonists in most stories all seem to believe that what they are doing is right. That they do these bad things because honestly in their eyes, they believe it is the good thing to do. Of course there are those that know they are doing wrong, but most of the time they think it's right. The only reason I'm here is because what I think is right is what the majority thinks is right. I could just as easily becone the bad guy in another story."

Anala raised an eyebrow. "Eh? How would you 'easily become the bad guy'?" she asked. "You're a police officer - somepony who has the job of protecting the citizens of Equestria and doing what you can to make sure that this country remains as peaceful as possible."

"Well, I mean in the past. Sure I had a gut feeling for what was right and wrong, but even that doesn't work out sometimes. Until I went to college and leaned what was deemed 'right' or 'wrong' I only went by what I, personally, thought was right. I've done some pretty bad things in the past... Things that, should the police force find out, would kick me out of the force, and probably lock me up as well..."

Anala listened intently to Sun, who had a lot of interesting words to offer. The white mare opened her mouth to make a reply, but then heard something. It was a sort of tapping noise. And it sounded like it was coming from one of the downstairs floors.

 

"Did you hear something just now?" she asked.

"I've been listening. It's been happening for a good half minute now, I wasn't sure if it was just me. The drug package is still downstairs, they could be back for it. Stay here- What am I saying? You won't stay here even if I told you to. Stay behind me, closely. Take the safety off that gun and only use it if you absolutely need to. I don't want to take the blame if you shoot somepony innocent."

 

Sun crept down the stairs and hid, back against a concrete pillar. He slowly peeked his head out and had a look. He nodded for Anala to follow.

Anala complied with Sun's instructions. She switched the safety off the gun and carefully followed Sun, hiding behind the same concrete pillar. There were a lot of questions she felt like asking, but she didn't want the thugs to hear her and attack.

Sun slowly peeked round the corner again, but sprang back and stared at Anala. He over exaggerated his mouth movements, so it was easy to lip read him 'They're right there!'.

 

They were loading all of the drug containers on to a kart, so that it was easier to transport. By this, Sun knew they were not innocent.

Anala mouthed in response, "Thanks, I can see."

 

She went on, "Well, what should we do now? Use the guns? Disguise ourselves as thugs?" From Sun Stream, Anala had learnt a bit about the police force, but she would need a little more for this particular situation.

Sun put a hoof to his mouth, to make sure that she stayed there and she stayed quiet. He stepped out from behind the pillar and put on a raspy voice, as though drugs had messed with his breathing.

 

"Hey guys, you here from this too-"

 

Sun jumped back behind the pillar as a bullet ricocheted off of the corner, taking a lump out of the concrete.

 

"That screws up that idea! Gun! Use it!"

 

He addressed the thugs from behind cover.

 

"Put the guns down and get on the ground or we will be forced to shoot you!"

Anala decided to pose as a cop, and Sun's official partner.

 

"You heard my partner here!" she said from behind cover. "We have guns and we're not afraid to use them!" Of course, she was slightly nervous, as anypony in her situation would be, but she was still determined to get the thugs behind bars.

Sun was confused. Partner? He didn't have time to enquire about it now though. He quickly looked around, and remembered his police gear. It was fairly heavy, and he wanted to relax, so he took it off. It was the next pillar along. Sun sprang from behind the cover of the solid concrete and into the open. A few bulletd flew, but the thugs reaction time wasn't fast enough to hit him. His equipment was a stub nose revolver, his protective vest and a radio. He dove back to Anala, loading his small pistol and turning to Anala with the vest.

 

"Put this on, it will protect you from most center mass shots."

Anala took the vest, and tried to put it on as quietly as possible.

 

"Well... what now? Do we just shoot at them? Or hide?" she mouthed. Perhaps she could hide behind something so that she could fire the gun without being spotted? And move about after every bullet she fired?

Sun spoke calmly into the radio, requesting backup and ambulances. He knew that any of them could be hurt, they even had to help the thugs if they were shot, even if it is only so they can be prosecuted.

 

"Stay here, and only fire a few seconds after I fire. I'll draw their fire then you shoot. You are my priority here, and after all this is over, I'm either going to hospital, or jail..." Sun said, quietly.

"No need to make me your priority," said Anala. "As far-fetched as this might sound, I think I can handle myself."

 

"Your plan does sound good, though," she went on. And with that, she carefully waited for Sun to take his shot.

 

'Why should he go to jail for shooting the thugs? It's their fault for breaking the law.'

Sun popped out fron behind cover, to take a few shots. He fired twice, with a second in between shots, before having to take cover from being shot at. This was the perfect moment for Anala to fire, as they were out of cover, and focused on him. They would be unaware of anything else for a few seconds.
