Destiny gave her a small smile, since she didn't really know what to say.

 

"You guys are really close," she said after a moment. She was basically stating the obvious, but it didn't matter. She was surprised Riley hasn't followed her here yet, since they stuck together most of the time.

Anala sighed and looked at the ground. "Look, there's something I wanna share with you."

 

"Back when I was just a foal, my parents hated each other. Whenever they were around each other, they were screaming and fighting. Not long after I could walk and talk, they got divorced and my mom left, leaving me with my dad and two older brothers."

 

"I was very young, and the belief was firmly planted in my mind that love is just an illusion bound to end in tragedy. So from that moment on, I vowed to never partake in romance of any sort."

 

"A few years later came the day that I met Riley. I enjoyed hanging out with him. He was such a joy to be around. He seemed to have a knack for spreading happiness, and was good at making people feel better without coming off as insensitive."

 

"Soon, it became glaringly obvious. He was in love with me."

 

"I stood by my vow, but I didn't want to break his heart by telling him the truth. So I continued to string him along. Not to hurt his feelings as the term might suggest, but to spare them. I really, really don't want him to give up on love just like I did."

 

She allowed a few tears to roll down her cheek.

Destiny was taken back. Nopony ever trusted her with that big of a secret except for Skyla.

 

She always thought she had it worse, but clearly she didn't. She never talked to her parents, who always cared for her. She thought she had a curse, which she does, but Anala has had it worse.

 

She held her head down a little, realizing all the things she took for granted that Anala never had.

 

"I'm sorry..," she said under her breath.

"No no, it's fine, it's not your fault..." replied Anala, wrapping an arm around Destiny. "I really feel like I should tell him the truth sometime, but I don't want to break his heart into a million pieces... what am I gonna do if one day he boldly professes his feelings for me?"

Destiny considered that for a moment. She never helped anypony with love advice.

 

"Umm, tell him the truth? That's all I got. I think he'll understand if you explain it to him," she said.

 

"And if it goes wrong, you can always beat me up for giving you the wrong advice," she said jokingly.

"But he'll be heartbroken!" said Anala.

 

However, before she could continue any further, she saw Riley trot up to them nonchalantly. "Hiya!" he greeted the fillies, having no idea of what they had just been talking about. "I'm getting pretty bored. You wanna play Tag?"

"Uh, no thanks," she said quietly. She looked at Anala and wanted to tell her that they could talk later, but couldn't without stuttering or preventing Riley from asking. Before she could get fidgety, she trotted away.

 

She didn't want them to see her be like that after being so confident.

After Soprano finished his Japanese class, he decided to do a little bit of cryptology (Ciphers and the such). He was interested in the One Time Pad cipher in particular; it is the only cipher that is completely uncrackable (when done right). He saw Destiny. "Hey Destiny, want to do some cryptology?"

"Uh, sure.." Destiny said.

 

Cryptology? What's that? she thought to herself.

 

"If it involves smart thinking, you got the wrong pony," she said sadly. She thought she was stupid, but she never put effort into schoolwork and she never applies herself. She thought it was her herself, not her effort.

Dark Star left the Japanese class, it was OK, but was not really something he enjoyed or was interested in. 

 

But gladly next up was archery. Since he had a bit more time he decided to return to his tent. 

 

Entering his tent the first thing he grabbed was his book, but deciding that he was not in the mood he just collapsed unto his bed/sleeping bag. The Japanese lesson tired him out, and his head hurt a bit. 

 

Getting up again and checking if everything was in place and that no prank was pulled he left, heading towards where archery was going to be held.

"It's ciphers and codes, but we need to go to archery now anyway." Soprano said, putting his cryptology book away. "We need to go down to the archery site before it closes. Otherwise, we won't get to do archery at all!" He said, quickly packing up all of his things.

Destiny nodded and followed him to the archery site, eager to learn how to shoot a bow.

 

"Have you ever tried archery?" she asked Soprano.

 

I don't think he has, he doesn't look like a pony that would shoot a bow for fun, she thought to herself.

Soon as he stepped out of the tent he was met by 3 stallion ponies, recognizing them immediately he knew they were the main 3 class bullies. One of them pushed him back a couple of steps and blocked his path to archery. The "Leader" spoke out. 

 

"Hello Dark Star, how is your book?" 

 

He didn't hesitate to answer. Trying to act very casually and ignoring the fact that he was trying to get bullied. 

 

"Is quite fine. " 

 

"What is it about?" Some other one of them asked. 

 

"It is about a thief who stole from the rich and gave the poor. " 

 

They started laughing. 

 

"Oh, so you are reading children books about magical heroes who serve the poor? Cliche and childish! " 

 

"Well, at least I read books unlike you idiots and plan to serve a greater purpose then being regular couch potato tape-worms like yourselves. " He answered swiftly not even taking a moment to re-think it. 

 

"Oh, harsh words. Oh, I have been wondering where your friends are. " The leader of the group taunted. 

 

Dark Star was a bit struck by this, he didn't really have friends. But he really didn't need them. 

 

"I got none, and I don't need them. " Star answered. 

 

"You don't need friends? No I think you just can't get any. Someone as ugly as you... I doubt you will ever even have a special somepony. " 

 

He was being struck, he really didn't have much to say here to the bullies satisfaction. His mother always said he was a handsome little colt. And his father taunted him that when he is full grown he will probably be wanted by every mare. But those were parents, most of the people he talked to who were mostly the bullies called him ugly, and he was starting to believe them. At this point he still didn't know what to answer, and he just decided to stay quiet. 

 

"Well - " the bully took notice that he was winning. "- you are a spoiled little noble, you probably think you are better then everyone else. And you think the fact that you have an A in magic class makes you good? Well, think again you little idiot. " He looked around. "So, you think you are better? You probably think you are above us now do you? Let me remind you where your place is. " The bully lit up his horn and his buddies tackles Dark Stars knowing all the teachers were at archery and nobody was around or in eye-sight. 

"I will show you the pain you deserve, and after this you won't even dare speak back to me like you did earlier. " 

 

Dark Star had enough of the talk, he was not going to give in without a fight. Lighting up his horn he zapped one of the bullies off and kicked the other one. They had the numbers but they didn't have any skill. All they had was their pride. 

 

The two bullies stood up as the leader attacked Star, casting an attack spell at him which Star easily deflected.

Anala and Riley turned their heads to see the group of three bullies. They recognised one of them as the one that Anala had once punched in the face to save Riley.

 

They ran towards them. "Leave him alone!" demanded Anala, and pushed one of the bullies into the other two.

Destiny heard shouting and turned around mid-step to see Anala push a pony.

 

She didn't know what they were actually doing, so she didn't get caught in it. She silently watched the fight, and she would intervene if it got too rough. But, she knew Anala could take them on.

"...You don't mess with us now girl. " 

 

The bullies were determined at the moment, they got far enough and they were ready to continue it, whatever fear they had from Anala before, it was gone now. But they knew they couldn't really beat up a girl so the leader told his friends to stand down. And then he faced Dark Star. 

 

"You got lucky now, we don't want to beat up a girl. Tut that doesn't change anything. I challenge you to a duel Dark Star. Unicorn vs Unicorn, in 10 minutes at the Celestial Oak at the forest. A pony of your stature shouldn't refuse. "  

 

He walked away with his buddies at the direction of the oak. 

 

Dark Star stood there, trying to put together everything. This was the first time he was challenged to a duel. But he knew that engaging in pointless battle like this could mean getting caught. Something that he didn't want. But yet, the feeling to defeat that bully did make him question what he was to do. But before he made up his mind he turned to Anala. 

 

"Thanks for helping me, I guess... "

"You're welcome, Dark Star," replied Anala, watching the bullies retreat. "Yeah, that's right, run away. It's all fun and games until someone fights back."

 

(OOC: I normally believe Equestria to be a place without gender roles, but I'll disregard that notion just this once)

"Well, this does not solve my problem yet... I got challenged to a duel... "

 

He was a bit nervous. 

 

"Now, I am not sure if I should accept. If I do it and beat him he might leave me alone for a while. But then I got a chance of getting caught and that wouldn't be pleasant, possibly even expelled from school. If I don't accept then he will keep bugging me and calling me a coward, and rumor may spread between the other class mates, and most of them being as stupid as they are will go with it."

Anala thought about the dilemma for a while, before she came to a conclusion. "What if you had the magic duel in a part of the forest where the teachers wouldn't be likely to show up?"

 

"Anala and I could distract the teachers from going in there," added Riley.

"The Celestial Oak is quite away from where the teachers would be. But someone could peek on the situation and maybe call the teacher. "

 

He turned to Riley. 

 

"Riley, is it? Well, if you try and distract the teachers they might think something is up. For now they will be busy with archery. And if someone doesn't come I don't think they will mind. After all this is not a vital part of the trip. But like I said, the thing I fear most is the bully running to the teacher crying or someone coming in on the situation and reporting it."

Taking his time to think things threw again he finally made his decision. 

 

"Alright, I will accept his challenge, but I will make it all of them versus me. If I win they should never bug me again, and they will somewhat fear me, meaning I can make sure they don't bully anyone again. And if I loose I would get the same scenario to what would happen if I lost with one person. Definitely worth a shot. "
