I used to be a stranger 7,994 September 8, 2014 Share September 8, 2014 If you've ever read The Art of War, and if The Start of War is anything like it, there would be no real problem if Princess Celestia had read it. The Art of War by Sun Tzu (which usually also includes commentaries from contemporary and generational successor great Generals of China) is a relatively short book and contains various strategies and common-sense sort of proverbs regarding how to engage an opponent, and demonstrate assertive action during conflict. While meant to be about Army vs. Army, its advice often can apply to any kind of conflict; even debate. Princess Celestia reading The Start of War would be fundamentally no different than if she had head Making Things Move, a famous primer on Mechanical Engineering principles. jaime_lion 56 September 8, 2014 Author Share September 8, 2014 War is not an art, its a cancer. Chapter 12 of the art of war by sun tzu 20. Anger may in time change to gladness; vexation may be succeeded by content. 21. But a kingdom that has once been destroyed can never come again into being; nor can the dead ever be brought back to life. 22. Hence the enlightened ruler is heedful, and the good general full of caution. This is the way to keep a country at peace and an army intact. Chapter 3 of the art of war Hence to fight and conquer in all your battles is not supreme excellence; supreme excellence consists in breaking the enemy's resistance without fighting. jaime_lion 56 September 8, 2014 Author Share September 8, 2014 Ive read the book..... Please refer to Hiro Shima, then tell the US army that, THEN tell me im wrong. I will respond with this just so you dont think i am ignoring you. I read the art of war as philosophy and such. i know nothing of actual war. and that kind of seems like a loaded statement. Anywho back on topic celestia and the art of war?
LZRD WZRD 1,929 September 9, 2014 Share September 9, 2014 Ive read the book..... Please refer to Hiro Shima, then tell the US army that, THEN tell me im wrong. Oh yes the poor Japanese... Cry me a river the US is not some horrible faction for dropping atomic bombs on Japan. In fact people tend to agree that those ultimately saved lives and brought the war to a much more efficient and sudden end. So please keep your revisionist history to yourself 1 Check out my channel for awesome video reviews and analysis! https://www.youtube.com/c/LZRDWZRD
sweetolebob18 728 July 26, 2015 Share July 26, 2015 I've read that what Sherman actually said was "War is Hell. It is cruelty unrefined & can not be made otherwise & it is good that this is so, lest we become too fond of it" (I'm relying on a notoriously inaccurate memory here. But, I'm pretty sure that is close) IIRC correctly, when Churchill was asked how he could tolerate peace conferences, replied "Jaw, jaw is better than war, war"
