Holding objects with hooves

This must be a very old MLP topic, but have you ever wondered how can ponies hold even small objects with their hooves?

 

I remind the scene when Spike gave a gem to Applebloom in "Just for Sidekicks", it looked like if she had magnets in her hoof.

I've seen a really elaborate description of how ponies in MLP have adopted their frog (part of a horse's foot) to make their hooves work like suction cups.

 

Personally I'd just go with cartoon physics and/or magic.
