I'm so confused

I haven't revisited MLP for years (maybe some occasional sites for movie infos) but I do still love the show. That said, I came across a lot of inappropriate material while searching for interesting fanfics. I was mainly searching for Princess Celestia's (my forever fav) stories, and that's where I found out there isn't enough saline solution in my cabinet to wash my eyes out after reading a few lines and accidently glancing at the pics.

 

Really? Is there a need for this? I never knew all this even existed.

There is, in fact, a need for it. Some of us like to see our favorite characters in a more mature light than the show offers. This isn't to say we have a problem with the tone of the show but we like to see something the show can't offer us.

 

It allows us our freedom of imagination and we love the show all the more for it. This doesn't just apply to sexualization or violence either. Things that aren't so gratuitous but still offer us the maturity we crave.

 

As with anything else on the internet you can avoid anything if you put your mind to it and not let what few things you see bother you.

 

One thing to remember is that the fan content doesn't change the show. You can still watch the show without worry since it will never change no matter how much non-canon material there is.

 

Many people in the fandom came to the show thanks to fan content and more than a little of it being more mature and grotesque. The fandom wouldn't be so large if it weren't for such content.

I'm not exactly sure where, or what you were looking for, but yeah... i think i can imagine what some of the material you've spotted is. You should have expected this though - people and their tastes and all.

 

I'm not too keen on that sort of stuff myself, but some people like it, and that's why it's out there.

I think FIMFiction has tags and filters for that kind of thing, so you could enjoy fan fiction without stumbling on weirdness like that in the future.

 

As to why it exists? I dunno, but there seems to be a demand for it, so people will keep on making it.
