I need to pick out a gaming PC with specific specs

I'm trying to get a gaming PC that can run games like SSB Melee smoothly and I need to know what specs you guys would suggest. Also what models if you know any off the top of your head. Please don't suggest something too expensive like $1200 alienware, and also I need it to be a laptop.

My busget seems to be about 700-800 according to my work plan

Suggestions?

I've found this on Amazon that I feel is reasonable for what you want in that price range.

Though I would like to ask if you really want and need a gaming laptop. Do you need it like for mobility?

You need a pretty fast CPU to emulate NGC(especially if you want to run it at higher than native resolution), I don't know if a 2GHz is going to cut it(even if it's an i7).

Probably what I should've mentioned especially. You'll need a cpu running at least 3.0 ghz (preferably over 3.5ghz) to be able to run emulations well. A custom desktop can work well with the price you're asking. Edited by Nuke87654

That's why I pushed through and got a FX-8320 even though it's a little over-kill for gaming, I really wanted that power to run PS2 and NGC emulators.

On topic, if you want to emulate Gamecube a fast dual-core is going to work better than something slower with more cores because Dolphin can only use two-cores AFIAK.

http://www.amazon.com/Intel-Pentium-Processor-G3258-BX80646G3258/dp/B00KPRWAZQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1418298712&sr=8-1&keywords=intel+pentium+g3258

Like what Shinobi means. That CPU while only two cores is over the 3.0 ghz requirement and it's an overclocking beast (Heard it can push over 4.5-5.0 ghz) so if you want a desktop for emulations (that I may decide eventually), this is the CPU you want as it's often dubbed 'An overclockers CPU'.

Ghz Don't matter unless we are talking about a specific chip.

This should do the job.

They matter to some degree(you are correct they aren't everything, but they're important).  I'd honestly get a AMD laptop(more performance for the money) if I wanted it for gaming on more of a budget.

No. What i mean is pretty much you said that any card that doesn't go over 2ghz is not capable of doing these tasks.

Different processors have different architecture which makes it a not so good way to compare.

Like for example AMD's 8 core processors have more cores but the cores are slower than for example in a  4-core processor with Intel's Haswell architecture.

This is why for example AMD markets 8/6 core consumer grade processors with stock speeds of example 4.1GHz.

I hope i made any sense.

I misread making my argument invalid.

Depends on the task, Intel is better for single-threaded while AMD is better for multi-threaded. AMD is also better in the department of performance for dollar(a $140 AMD matches an Intel that's around the $200 range).

Intel really only starts becoming worth the money when you get into the high-end stuff(because AMD tops out at mid-range CPUs that roughly match up with the higher-end i3s and lower-end i5s)

Contrary to what Alienware or other companies would have you believe, a gaming laptop is essentially a contradiction of terms. Laptops are designed for portability, not the power needed for gaming. You can buy a "gaming laptop" for bucketloads of money, but it will still get blown out of the water by any midrange desktop gaming PC.

I only have a cheapish build(750ti with FX-8320) and it blows most gaming laptops out of the water.
