Sigma 768 January 19, 2015 Share January 19, 2015 (edited) This is more than just a single case of suicide. Studies show that a significant number of transgender people attempt suicide at some point in their lives. When I read the news article about Leelah Alcorn's death, and read the statistics shortly after, I was left speechless. We usually go about our day without focusing on the bigger problems that goes on in the world. I hope that this story will help change that. The story is in the link. Please help by signing the petition to end transgender conversion therapy. Brock Obama 298 January 19, 2015 Share January 19, 2015 That is certainly sad and this is a problem that needs to be addressed in society. We need to stop shunning people that are different. I don't agree with what transgenders do, but I won't hurt them or make them feel bad about themselves because that's mean.
SilverStarApple 850 January 19, 2015 Share January 19, 2015 Wait, so there are actually therapies for changing someone's gender/making soeone change gender/want to change genders? Sorry, I don't understand. What happened, and what's going on? I was dead until the moment I met you. I was a powerless corpse pretending to be alive. Living without power, without the ability to change my course, was akin to a slow death. If I must live as I did before then... -Lelouch, Code Geass - My NEW DeviantART: http://SilverStarApple.deviantart.com/Want to make money for being an AWESOME PONY? https://www.tsu.co/Epsilon725 My fanfic, starring Silver Star Apple: http://www.fimfiction.net/story/224996/the-shining-silver-star-of-the-apple-family
Shadowking58 1,137 January 19, 2015 Share January 19, 2015 @,A transgender is a person who is not comfortable in their own body. Example, if you're a male who's uncomfortable having a male body, that would make you trans. And vise versa. The Therapy's purpose is to make you comfortable with the body you have, thus, not making you trans. (I hope I got that right....) 1 All My OCS Quote “The only time a lawyer can cry is when it's all over."

Please don't be mad at me for saying this, I'm new to all of this. 1. What is wrong with wanting to be you? 2. How does this therapy work? Is it good, or bad? How so? 1 I was dead until the moment I met you. I was a powerless corpse pretending to be alive. Living without power, without the ability to change my course, was akin to a slow death. No, I know less. I was not even aware this is a thing. What happens if a man sneaks into a trans clinic, and undergoes the chemicals-and-surgery procedure to make him a man? Does he become more manly, or will the chemicals and surgery disfigure him horribly? I was dead until the moment I met you. I was a powerless corpse pretending to be alive. All I know is that Transgenders are people too and should not be treated like it's something that needs to be 'fixed'. It's basically what happened to gays all over again. People should be allowed to be the best possible version of themselves. If that best version happens to be the opposite gender, that isn't really a big deal. I was dead until the moment I met you. Moonlight 7,291 January 19, 2015 Share January 19, 2015 Okay, now... um... Please don't be mad at me for saying this, I'm new to all of this. 1. What is wrong with wanting to be you? 2. How does this therapy work? Is it good, or bad? How so? I'm not trans myself but a decent amount of my friends are and from what I've seen: There is nothing wrong with wanting to be you. If you want to be a guy but were born female, then it's fine to change your gender (hell you don't even have to get surgery you could just change your pronouns). If you want to be female but were born male, you can do the same. If you're comfortable with the gender you were born with, then you're not trans. Any therapy made to try and convince you that your feelings are wrong is automatically bad. If you want to be a different gender and that therapy tries to make you want to be your gender now, it's automatically bad. it's fucking terrible and if anyone enrolls someone they love into it then they don't love them at all. On topic with the actual story, the fact that people can't accept their own daughter for who she wants to be (and even misgenders her after her death) is fucking ridiculous and she deserved so much better than garbage like that. matching setups with my bff pathfinder

How does this therapy work? Is it good, or bad? How so? 1. To a trans person, their very being is the gender they feel they are. Don't take being transgendered as being dissatisfied with who one is - that is looking at it from the wrong angle (as I said, they are not dissatisfied with 'who' they are). It is something much deeper than that. It's very hard to understand gender identity for us, I know, but that's because it all lines up perfectly for us. 2. I do not know much about this type of therapy, but I'd imagine it works a lot like the "curing homosexuality" therapy. That is, it does not actually work, and just causes pain. You can't 'cure' it... Because, it's deep, and not just something that can be cast aside as 'curable'. What actually can be done to help someone who is trans varies from person to person, but typically it's transitioning, or at least presenting. 1 Everything needs more woodwind! As I understand it, the operations only provide the thinnest illusion of being the opposite gender to other people, true sex change is beyond our technological capability and likely will be for a long time as you basically need to learn how to rewrite DNA if you want to actually change somebodies gender. Better to accept that gender is something that cannot be physically altered than to destroy your own body in a vain attempt to emulate a gender change.
