Leonard Smix 421 January 29, 2015 Share January 29, 2015 (edited) Ah, scared to post this.. but i put my drawing to the test using GIMP... i used plain colors of my OC and a base pony for the pose.. how did it turn out? It wasnt meant to be anything big, the colors are nothing fancy, lines are a tad rough, i just want to make sure GIMP is a good drawing tool. honk friend 1,987 January 29, 2015 Share January 29, 2015 (edited) lemme just start by saying get painttool sai. gimp isn't meant to be used as a paint tool, it's for photo manipulation like a free barebones version of photoshop. I disagree. GIMP can be used as a paint tool if you know how to use it. Why? Because I use it as a paint tool. XD MrTrevorrMC You should look into the Path tool. It's great for making smooth and straight lines. 1 I won't be a complete brony until I get a Thunderlane plushie and go to a convention.

What about freehand drawing with a tablet?

XD I never said it can't be used as a paint tool, I said its better use is as a photo manipulation tool. Painttool Sai is still loads better. caramba2654 602 January 29, 2015 Share January 29, 2015 That's the path tool though. What about freehand drawing with a tablet? Then use Paint Tool Sai. But if you're doing mouse stuff, GIMP2 is a really nice program. Since the OP never said that he had a tablet, I'm assuming he's using a mouse. EddG 554 January 29, 2015 Share January 29, 2015 I looks great! But like others I'd recommend Paint Tool SAI, It is (IMHO) easier for mouse drawing than GIMP. I tried using paint tool SAI, it's not too easy for me... I don't use a mouse, I have a bamboo tablet.
honk friend 1,987 January 30, 2015 Share January 30, 2015 If that's the case, SAI is definitely the better tool. You just need practice with it. There's also autodesk sketchbook and maybe even photoshop but tbh gimp is not great for drawing things

If you fiddle with the input device settings, it should support most graphics tablets including pressure sensitivity, etc. Also GIMP is free and available for my operating system. SAI is neither. MyPaint is OK though. I use it occasionally for line art stuff, but generally prefer GIMP for most purposes.
